Dick took another look around the living room. In his humble opinion, they did a good job with the Christmas decorations. The place looked as festive as every house in every Christmas magazine and picture he had ever seen, though only almost as festive as the Manor. Bruce had apparently stopped celebrating Christmas for a while until he took Dick in. While it was hard to celebrate after losing his parents, he appreciated Bruce’s effort, and over time, he began to enjoy the holiday again. It had been his favourite holiday before his parents died, and it still was now. He was excited to celebrate it with his new family.
It was actually their first Christmas together since they all met. It was crazy to think it had only been about a year since Rachel showed up in Detroit and changed his life forever. Changed his life for better. He would forever be grateful for that moment.
“Please tell me you’re not brooding on Christmas Eve.” Dick glanced over his shoulder, smiling at the sight. Kory was standing a few feet behind him, wearing a dark purple, silk nightgown that ended at her knees.
“No, just thinking,” he told her with a smile, turning around to fully face her.
Even though the image of her would forever be locked into his brain, he never got tired of looking at her. It had been nearly two months since Kory defeated Brother Blood and they decided to give their relationship another try. They had tried to take it slow, but that only lasted about a week. They had grown a lot closer over the year already being friends and co-leaders of the Titans, that becoming an official couple was easier than they thought. It was only another week after that, that Kory moved into his bedroom.
“And what exactly were you thinking about?” Kory wondered, now a sly smirk spreading across her face.
“Just about how we all met only a year ago, and how grateful I am for that, for everyone. For you,” he replied, moving to stand in front of her, his hands coming up to cup her face.
“Oh yeah?” She whispered.
“Yeah,” he confirmed, then pressed his lips against hers. Kory was quick and eager to return the kiss.
Reluctantly, Dick pulled away for air and said, “I honestly can’t remember being happier than I am right now.”
“Yeah?”
“I mean, it would be nice for Donna, Dawn, Tim and Jason to be here, but Dawn and Donna will get here tomorrow, Tim’s with his parents, and Jason is with Bruce. But yeah, I’m so happy I think I might burst,” he said, brushing a strand of her red hair away from her face.
“What if I told you I could make you even happier?” Kory questioned, her smirk coming back.
“I don’t know if that is possible,” he replied.
“Let me try,” she said, as she grabbed his hand and started walking him backwards towards the hallway to their bedroom, pulling him along.
“I like where this is going.” Kory laughed but didn’t respond to his words.
At least, not until they reached their bedroom. The second they were inside, she shut the door and said, “Sit down on the bed.”
“Only as long as you join me,” he teased, giving her hand a squeeze.
“In a minute,” Kory promised. “I just need to get it.”
That had Dick raising his eyebrows a little, but he sat down on the edge of the bed while she went into the walk-in closet. This didn’t sound like what he originally thought she was getting at. It sounded like she was wanting to give him an actual present. That made him a little nervous. They had all decided to wait until Christmas Day to open all their presents and their stockings. His gifts for Kory were under the tree, just like her presents were for him. Or, so he thought.
A minute later, Kory came out with a small box, wrapped in red and gold wrapped paper, tied with a blue ribbon. As she handed it to him, she said, “Here you go.”
“Thanks, though I’m not entirely sure why you’re giving this to me now instead of tomorrow morning,” he told her as he started untying the ribbon.
“I considered it, but I thought that this kind of gift was one that I should give you in private.” Kory’s words only made Dick more curious, so he started unwrapping the gift a little quicker than he previously was.
Under the paper, was a small box. An old makeup box from the looks of it. When he opened it, he found it was filled with newspaper. Among the newspaper was something else. Something white and blue. He pulled it out to examine it more closely, then almost dropped it in shocked. A pregnancy test. A positive pregnancy test.
“Are, are you sure?” Dick asked with a shaky voice. When he looked up at her, he saw that her smile was gone, her eyes on the ground, looking far more nervous than he had ever seen her.
“I have five more tests hidden in the bathroom, all positive,” she revealed.
For a moment, Dick didn’t breathe. Then, he stood up, went to stand in front of her, and hugged her. It took a few seconds, but Kory hugged him back.
“Are you happy?” Kory questioned, tears now running down her face, soaking his shirt.
“I was wrong,” he said, tears of his own running down his cheeks even though he was smiling. “I’ve never been happier than this moment, right now.”
“Are you sure? I mean, I know we talked about it, about the vision, but I didn’t think it would happen this fast.”
Dick pulled back so he could see her face. He moved to hold her face in his hands once again, wiping her tears away before he let his forehead rest against hers. “Neither did I, but I am happy, so happy. I’m the happiest man alive.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” he assured her. But then, another thought came to his mind, and he asked, “Aren’t you happy?”
“I mean, I was nervous about you’d react, but yes. Yes, I am happy,” she answered, her dazzling smile returning to her face.
Dick chuckled and whispered, “We’re having a baby.”
“We’re having a baby.”
