"Look at what you've done!" Lady Tremaine's voice thundered through the house, full of anger and disappointment. "You've destroyed Cinderella's dress, the one thing she had to look forward to! How could you be so thoughtless, so cruel?"
Drizella and Anastasia cowered before their mother, their faces filled with guilt. "We didn't mean to," Drizella stammered. "It was just a prank, Mother. We didn't think it would ruin the whole dress."
"Prank? This was no prank, it was pure malice!" Lady Tremaine's eyes blazed with fury. "You two have gone too far this time. I am deeply ashamed of your behavior. You will both go to your rooms and think long and hard about what you've done!"
With heavy hearts, Drizella and Anastasia trudged off to their rooms, leaving a trail of remorse in their wake. Lady Tremaine's anger dissipated as she turned her attention to Cinderella, who stood trembling in the corner, her tear-streaked face reflecting heartache.
Lady Tremaine approached Cinderella with a mixture of regret and tenderness. She knelt down, her voice now filled with a softer tone. "There, there, my dear. Don't cry. I... I should have been a better mother to you, kinder and more understanding."
She pulled Cinderella into a comforting embrace, gently rubbing her back as the tears continued to flow. "I know I've been hard on you, but it's because... it's because I couldn't bear to see you surpass my own daughters. I was blinded by my own insecurities, and I took it out on you. Please forgive me."
Cinderella looked up at Lady Tremaine, her eyes still glistening with tears. "I... I love you, stepmother. Despite everything, I've always loved you."
Those words pierced Lady Tremaine's heart, causing it to shatter into a thousand pieces. She realized the depth of Cinderella's unconditional love and how she had failed to reciprocate it. Regret washed over her like a tidal wave.
In a broken voice, Lady Tremaine whispered, "Oh, Cinderella, my sweet girl. I don't deserve your love. But I promise you this, from this moment forward, I will try my best to be the mother you deserve. I'll make it right, I swear."
And there, in that tender moment, Lady Tremaine held Cinderella tightly, their shared embrace a glimmer of hope in their fractured relationship.
