The dress hangs in the closet. A garment of soft velvet decorated in tiny embroidered stars. (Kimi would later deny he had hand stitched the stars onto the fabric. But Sebastian knew better than that because the stars matched exactly where they were in the sky the day they were born.)
Sebastian is dying to wear it. But they want to wait for a special moment. A moment where the dress feels theirs. A moment where the magic of the dress would be felt in its full effect.
The day soon comes. One soft summer evening with the sun slowly sinking behind the mountains. It's theirs and Kimi's anniversary. It's the perfect night to take out the dress.
When Kimi sees Sebastian walking towards him to the little table they had laid out together on the deck to watch the sunset, his breathing literally stops.
Sebastian is stunning. The dress highlights all their curves as they make their way to Kimi. They're smiling softly and their hair is tied up in a neat bun at the back. Around their neck they wear a silver ring. The same ring Kimi gave them all those years ago. It had been a promise during their racing years. A promise of love no matter what happened out on track. A promise of a love that would last.
And it did. Despite everything. It lasted.
Kimi gets up, his face flushed as he looks at Sebastian and they've never felt so lucky with Kimi's gaze on them. "You look beautiful."
Sebastian grins, their smile bright. "I think I've finally found the right day to wear this."
In answer Kimi pulls Sebastian in for a kiss. It's perfect. Soft and sweet and makes Sebastian's head spin.
Sebastian pulls back and then sits down at the table with Kimi following suit. For a moment there are no words. They just hold hands and watch the sun fade away in the sky to be replaced with stars.
Once the sun has set, Sebastian moves their chair so they can climb into Kimi's lap and the two spend an hour or two just talking and kissing. They both share memories, good and bad. Talking about anything and everything. Racing and first dates and first times. The talk comes easily to the two of them and it's even easier for Kimi to propose, there and then. Under the stars.
Sebastian accepts and they share a kiss just as the stars seem to align overhead. Perfect.
