Work Text:
Twas a cool summer afternoon, three girls hanging out. The bench table situated behind the school underneath a large tree was currently occupied by a trio of blonde cheerleaders chattering and gossiping amongst each other. The sun danced on their golden hair as the shortest of the girls twirled a lock of it, the other two sat perched upon the table, peering down with interest.
"Sooo, is what Amy said earlier tr- Ow!" Lindsay jolted as a tanned elbow jabbed her arm.
"Lindy! Cool it with the A-M-Y..." Dakota quickly hissed at her, flashing a concerned look at the girl below her. Lindsay bit her lip but continued.
"But, like, is it true though?"
"Is what true?" Sammy raised an eyebrow, pulling herself up to sit between the other two.
"That you have, like, a super-secret crush on someone!" Lindsay cooed, Sammy's eyes widened.
"She... She knew about that? How?" Lindsay shrugged.
"I don't know, something about twins being able to read each other's minds."
"Is that possible?" Dakota inquired, adjusting the sunglasses resting on top of her head.
Sammy pouted, "I doubt it, or she'd probably do better at exams."
"So, who is it?" Lindsay interjected, leaning closer than what was necessary.
"Uh, I don't think-"
"Is he cute?" Dakota leaned in as well.
"Well, to me, I guess." Sammy chuckled nervously as the blondes beside her gasped and squealed.
"Oh my gosh, Sandy that's so adorbs, what does he look like?" Lindsay giggled as Dakota rolled her eyes at her.
"It's Sammy, not Sandy." Dakota corrected.
"That's what I said, Virginia!" She rolled her eyes again, Lindsay continued, enthusiastic as ever. "Does he do sports, like my Tyler?" She sighed dreamily, swirling her head around as she pictured her own boyfriend.
"Does he like tech stuff like my Sam?" Dakota added, Sammy shook her head to both of them.
"No, more into theatre, I think." Sammy scratched at her arm and turned her head downwards, attempting to hide how hard she was smiling when she thought of him.
"Like Shakespeare stuff? I hear acting is all the rage with hot dudes these days." Dakota flipped her platinum hair behind her shoulder.
"Okay, but what does he look like? What does he look like?!" Lindsay gripped the shorter girl's shoulders and shook her lightly, Sammy waited a moment for her head to stop spinning before she answered, a rose blossoming in her cheeks.
"Well, he's got nice-"
"So, he's a guy! Got it!"
Dakota nudged Lindsay roughly.
"Well, um, I like his hair..." Sammy blushes even harder, turning almost the same shade as her lipstick.
"Okay, okay, what kind of hair is it?"
"It's like, brownish blonde and like kinda swept back," she began to motion pushing her hair back, she wasn't exactly the most knowledgeable on hairstyles. Dakota nodded along.
"Mhm, and what does his body look like - is he skinny, well-built or-"
"Like Alejandro!" Lindsay chirped, a bit too loudly.
"He's perfect! I mean, uh," Sammy's face burned brighter, the girls beside her grinning in anticipation, "He's not, like athletic, I think, but uh, he's, like, decently built... I mean I haven't seen him without a shirt so I can't really tell."
"Oh, we'll get you seeing him without a shirt in no time," Lindsay winked at her, Sammy couldn't stop giggling.
"But do you guys, like, talk a lot?" Dakota asked, waving her hand to urge her to continue.
"Sometimes..." Sammy sighed, "we have Maths together and I sit beside him in English, he complimented my hair once before she butted in and started telling him about that time she shaved my head." Sammy huffed before continuing, "he then said that my 'hair must've grown pretty well since then' and then winked at me. God I couldn't stop blushing!" She sighed wistfully and brushed a hand through her hair, "he also told me afterwards that he thought it was more fun talking to me than her." Lindsay and Dakota awwed as they drank in their interaction.
"And what else?"
"And he's got a great..... uh..."
"Yeah?"
"Um, a great..."
"Yeah?"
"He's got a pretty great ass."
Dakota and Lindsay gasped in unison, whipping their heads up and meeting each other's wide-eyed realisation.
"Topher!"

"Okay, Sammy." Dakota gripped the shorter blonde's shoulders as Lindsay peaked through the curtains. The school's auditorium was mostly empty, very few people were willing to stay back after school each week to watch whatever play the theatre group were putting on, this gave the girls a perfect opportunity to give Sammy and her crush some alone time. "You just need to go over there, tell Topher you liked his show and ask if he's doing anything tomorrow."
"And what if he's busy?"
"Then give him your number and tell him to call you when he's free." Dakota winked and Sammy bit her lip.
Lindsay called to the duo from the curtain. "Hey! I think he's finished talking to Justice-"
"Justin."
"That's what I said? Anyway, he's totally free if you wanna go ask him out."
"Okay." Sammy took a deep breath to steady herself, clenching her jaw to try and stop herself from shaking. "I... I think I'm ready."
"Hey," Dakota rested her hand on her shoulder, "we'll be right here for you." Lindsay nodded. Sammy smiled and thanked them, before marching out onto the stage.
"Hi! T-Topher..." Sammy giggled, nervously, wishing she got his attention a bit more quietly.
"Sammy? Good to see you, enjoy the show?"
Sammy tried to stop herself from blushing. "Yeah, you were great! A-as usual heh heh..."
Topher beamed, brushing his hand through his hair. "I was, wasn't I? Y'know the effort I put into these shows can be a bit overwhelming - I just wish the other guys would put as much work in. It can really suffocate my acting talents, sometimes."
"I still enjoyed the show, you were definitely the best part of it. I... I couldn't, um, take my eyes off you..." Sammy's face was fully red at this point, her eyes dropped to the floor. Was that too creepy? What if he thinks I'm some weirdo who looks at him all the time...
"Really?" Topher's eyes widened. "Was I really that good?" He chuckled, a soft shade of pink fluttering on his cheeks. "I mean, that was probably my natural charms seeping through, it's hard not to steal the show sometimes."
Sammy laughed along with him, his confidence (while some may call it arrogance) only served to further draw her in. She knew it was time to ask the question. "I always love your performances, um, by the way, you're not doing anything tomorrow, are you?" She played with her thumbs nervously as he eyed her with an amused expression.
"I don't really have anything planned for the rest of the week." He grinned at her, "would you like to hang out sometime?"
"Wha-uh, yes! Yeah, that's what I wanted to ask, but um, yeah. I'm free whenever."
"Cool. Could I get your number? I'll give you a call tomorrow."
"Yeah! Yeah, it's um..." Sammy clumsily pulled her phone out of her bag and exchanged numbers with him, her heart had never beat so hard in her life.
"So... Unless you got somewhere to be, wanna walk with me to the bus stop?"
"Of course, totally, yeah!" He smiled at her, and she smiled back.
Sammy flashed a thumbs up to her cheerleader buddies before following Topher off the stage.
