Chapter Text
“Easy does it, Timber” A voice spoke over the radio.
Timber was slowly making his way across a fallen log, a child in hand behind him, and a dark ravine with swirling water below.
“Come on kid. Just one step at a time, yeah?” Timber murmured soothingly, taking a quick glance back at the kid, who meekly nodded and held on to Timber’s hand tighter.
“Come on, you’re almost there!” A voice shouted out.
“Ram! Quiet!” Another voice spoke harshly.
“Sorry, Captain” Ram nodded and kept working on anchoring the belay.
The rope slipped slightly, startling Timber.
“Shit!” Timber swore out in fear, but managed to keep his balance. “Ram! Keep hold of that thing!”
”Sorry!” Ram called out “This rain is making it harder!”
Timber continued to make his way across, before finally, jumping off the log onto level, sturdy ground, and helping the kid down.
“Hell yeah!” Ram cheered.
The Captain ran forward and covered the kid in a blanket and began to radio for an Evac. Until suddenly…
“MUDSLIDE! GET TO COVER!” A voice yelled out. The Captain and the kid dashed under cover. Before anyone could react, a large rock came tumbling down.
*THUD*
*CRACK*
The rock made a sickening noise as it collided with Ram, causing him to tumble and fall into the darkened ravine. The belay rope tightened, and began to drag Timber down with the fallen Ram.
The Captain acted fast, and ran forwards. He grabbed his combat knife, and quickly cut the rope.
“RAM! NO!” Timber screamed. He tried to run forwards, but the Captain hauled him back and against cover.
After what seemed like hours, the mudslide subsided.
Timber ran forwards “Ram! No! No no no! Ram!” he yelled “Ram! Howard, come in!” he shouted into his radio as he crawled towards the edge of the ravine. Below, he saw nothing but fallen rocks.
The Captain walked forwards and placed a hand on Timber’s shoulder. “I…I’m sorry, lad” he murmured.
All Timber could do…was let out a heart wrenching cry.
