It was their anniversary and they had officially been a couple for a year, so Louis had asked Merry if they should go for a weekend trip together. But the last few weeks leading up to the trip Merry had been acting a bit strange. Making Louis worried that something was wrong, that they were going to break up with him, however, in reality, Merry had something special planned, something that was nerve-wracking for them.
Merry and Louis are sitting together outside on the patio overlooking a small pond, watching as the sun sets, Merry comfortably lying in Louis's arms with their head on his chest, “I love this” they say looking up at Louis who was looking a bit nervous “Is everything alright?”. Louis shakes his head to say yes, however, his face betrays him. Merry sitting up concerned, “What’s wrong?” Louis has this sweet innocent look on his face that he gets every time he is nervous, “it’s just —“ he starts but is unable to finish. Merry pulls Louis into a tight hug not letting go of him “It’s ok sweetie, take your time” and he did, the sky was starting to get dark when he finally said something “Are you breaking up with me on this trip?”, the words came out so sad and it shocked Merry. Breaking up Louis was the furthest from what they had planned for this weekend. Holding his face with their hands they look him in the eyes “Of course not babe” giving Louis a reassuring kiss before continuing “I was going to ask you something”. He looks at them confused, wondering what they possibly could be asking him on this trip, and then it hits him and he feels a warm feeling spread in his chest. “I was planning on doing it differently, but there’s no time like the present”. Merry goes up and comes back after a few minutes carrying a tiny green velvet box, “I wasn’t sure what would be appropriate to use but”, they open the box to reveal a ring with a simple floral design “I thought you deserved something” Merry looking into his eyes “special”. His face looked at them with so much love and wonder, smiling and almost on the verge of tears. Merry, now sitting basically on his lap, holding up the ring box “So, Louis Oakley, will you marry me?”. He takes in their question before he kisses Merry on the mouth and answers “Yes, Merry Vinter, I will marry you” grabbing hold of their whole body jumping up and spinning them around on the patio, all while laughing and crying happily. After which Louis carries Merry into the bedroom for a little celebration.
