Day Three Prompt: Secret Relationship

“Under the Bed”

“For the last time Yang, I’m just going to read some comics and watch a movie or something.” Ruby whined in protest.

“Sureeee you are,” Her older sister persisted. “And I bet it will be in the company of a certain boy if I had to venture a guess.”

Ruby’s groan drowned out the snickering of the blonde who continued to bait her younger sister into further conversation. The whole ordeal was grating to the shorter redhead as she had been dealing with this onslaught of teasing for some inconceivable reason. She wasn’t sure when it had started, but it had become more and more grating every time her relentless sister opened her mouth.

Of course, she knew this was coming when she started hanging out with Jaune more and more recently. It was how it went every time she had a friend that just so happened to be a boy throughout all her school life, which admittedly wasn’t often. She never understood just because she hung out with a boy, it had to mean she liked him, or vice versa. Couldn’t they just be good friends?

And now because she was opting to stay in instead of joining the rest of her team for a girl’s night out in Vale on Saturday night, it meant she was sneaking away to get all “smoochie” with said boy. Just how old are we? She thought to herself.

“Well, it’s a good thing this isn’t a gameshow and there is no guessing required on your part.”

“Don’t get smart with me you boyfriend-hider!”

“Can we stop this already?” Weiss interjected, closing her makeup mirror. “If Ruby doesn’t want to go with us, she doesn’t have to.” Ruby offered a smile towards her partner as she watched her stand up and walk towards Ruby’s bottom bunk to finish re-getting ready.

Weiss, Yang, and Blake had already left out a few minutes’ prior for the night, only to return because there was an immediate wardrobe changed required by… well, we all know. That’s when this pestering had started up again.

The white-haired girl took a seat on the edge of the bed as she reached for her boots, plopping down rather ungracefully.

“Ow! Ruby, you need to get a new mattress, this one is all lumpy somehow.” The girl yelped, rubbing her rear end slightly.

“Uhh yeahhhh, I had mentioned it to the dormitory staff.” Ruby retorted. “Not sure what the turn around is with that exactly." The redhead scratched her head and offered a weak laugh on top of her statement.

“I just know you’re hiding something!” Yang declared, re-igniting the conversation all while ignoring the previous girl’s attempt to defend Ruby. The blonde paced the room as she pondered to herself. She wasn’t sure what it was, but something was bothering her. She was going to solve this conundrum.

Ruby rolled her eyes at her sister’s accusatory tone once more. “Yeah Yang, I’m totally hiding someone in my closet.” She smirked, pointing towards her wardrobe on the far side of the room.

Yang blinked at the girl’s statement, her eyes traveling to the piece of furniture Ruby just addressed. She looked at the closet, the back at Ruby… the back at the closet again. The younger girl merely sighed at her sister’s response, opting to go as far as to facepalm at her missed sarcasm. What am I, a hussie?

Blake approached Yang from behind as she made her way towards Ruby’s closet, gripping her by the shoulder gently. The blonde turned back at her girlfriend, who offered almost the same response as Ruby at the time. Yang knew that look a little better, or rather, knew it was the “stop messing around or else” look.

The blonde stopped herself from pursuing Ruby’s closet. “Well,” She coughed into her hand, changing her posture and tone. “Just remember, I see everything. I’ll let it go for now, though.”

“That’s better. Now come on, we’ve lost enough time.” Blake retorted. She motioned for Yang and Weiss to follow her, making her way towards the door.

Yang glared back at her younger sister once Blake wandered off, knowing her teasing had been thwarted… for now. Ruby offered a weak, smirking grin to the annoyed girl. The best thing about this new Yang/Blake dynamic was that no matter how much of an extrovert her older sister was, and how strong she was, one look from her girlfriend could shut her moxie down almost instantly.

Maybe she should start teasing her more instead? Something she would have to contemplate for later.

“You all have yourselves a good time now.” Ruby all but cooed as Blake exited the room with a perturbed blonde whose growl Ruby could hear from down the hall.

Weiss was the last to exit the room, lagging on purpose. “You owe me for third wheeling with these two. They’re so much worse once they’ve been out dancing for a while.”

“Sorry, I’m just tired from the week.”

“It’s fine. I’ll just add it to your tab.”

Once Weiss closed the door behind her, Ruby’s smile dropped as she let out a very vocal sigh. This whole thing was becoming more and more exhausting with every dialogue she’s forced to take part in. Maybe one day her sister would have some form of confidence in her when she argued back. It’s not like she has ever done anything to warrant such claims.

The nerve of her to insist that Ruby was “hiding” a boyfriend from her, or the rest of her team was just completely preposterous!

“Hey, am I good to come out yet?”

“Yes Jaune, you can come out.”

A moment later, Ruby watched as Jaune crawled out from beneath the bunkbed she shared with Weiss, slowly helping himself up to his feet, while stumbling somewhat.

“Man, Weiss may be tiny, but when she plops right on your head, she doesn’t feel all that small.” Jaune groaned while rubbing his head. “She almost knocked me unconscious with that one.”

Ruby giggled at the boy’s claim. “Guess I can call you a real butthead now, huh?”

“You’re about as original as your sister.”

While Ruby was hiding the fact that she may have been dating Jaune for quite a while now, she did have her reasons. It was mostly to protect Jaune from the wrath she had been enduring for most of her life, as well as spare her from even more teasing if she were to allow her to confirm all her suspicions.

It was better this way—at least, for now. After all, they were way passed the "smoochie" stage that Yang was so worried about.

“Speaking of which, we don’t know when Yang will be back sooooo~”

“Soooo~?”

“So, take your shirt off and come cuddle me. I need that Arc booty.”

“Yes ma’am.”
