"So, Chargebolt, as much fun learning about your quirk is, I think it's time we get to the part everyone is waiting on," the interviewer gives Kaminari a sly wink.
Kaminari laughs and folds his legs up on the plush couch. Since the first time Kaminari forgot he was doing a live interview and pulled out his phone to FaceTime Bakugou, to tell him a random fact about jellyfish he remembered, it's become a Chargebolt interview tradition for him to FaceTime Bakugou.
Bakugou picks it up every single time. Even though he constantly complains about the amount of calls and stupid facts Kaminari infodumps. It's even better when others call Bakugou before and he ignores them just for him to answer immediately when it's Kaminari's turn.
He can deny it as much as he wants, but everyone knows Kaminari is Bakugou's favorite aside from Kirishima. There has been a time or two a rumor Kaminari and Bakugou are dating has circulated, but they quickly died out in favor of the rumors of more than friendship between Red Riot and Dynamight. Neither rumor has been addressed or confirmed.
Everyone from former class A and their teachers are aware that the couple has been together since the end of first year back at UA, and were joined by Midoriya late third year. None of them are ready to expose their relationship. It's not like it'll affect their hero rankings, they are too beloved in the media for anything to ruin that, but they don't want the publicity, the constant invasive questions about their love life rather than their careers.
Kaminari can't fault them for that. Him and Sero also didn't want their relationship plastered all over social media. Yet, having someone break into your home can cause a secret like that to get out in no time. The robber is doing jail time, but the damage is done. They took it in stride though. The news even helped Sero rise in hero rankings.
The blowout from Kaminari's relationship reveal took the attention off the speculation of Kirishima and Bakugou for a short while. It came back not long after.
He steeples his fingers with a maniacal grin. “I have some old friends supporting me from the audience today. I think we should have a few of them attempt to call Dynamight first. That way when he ignores them, but answers me, I can rub it in their faces.”
“Oh,” the interview turns to the live audience intrigued. “What other pro heroes do we have with us tonight?”
A few hands shoot up near the back of the room. Whenever they can, former class A try to show their support for their fellow heroes. Whether it be a congratulatory text after a particularly harsh fight, a visit in the hospital, or showing up at each other’s interviews.
They don disguises when they sneak into interviews to keep from stealing the spotlight from their friend. Now, Mina, Sero, Todoroki, Shinsou and Jirou pull off hats, glasses, scarves and other articles of clothing used to hide their identities.
The interviewer claps their hands happily. “Oh, how fun. This is so exciting!”
Kaminari chuckles at their genuine excitement. “Come on up, guys,” he waves his friends onto the stage.
The interviewer does not seem miffed one bit that their show was hijacked. Their mouth hangs open as the others squish onto the small couch with Kaminari. Sero lifts Kaminari, takes his seat then settles the other on his lap. Kaminari takes the man-handling in stride.
“Who wants to call Kacchan first?”
Todoroki is the first to raise his hand. “I will call my best friend first.”
“You do realize he still hates you, right?” Sero double checks.
“No, he doesn’t. He just wants everyone to think that.”
“Whatever floats your boat,” Sero snorts.
Todoroki sends him a vexed look as he clicks on Bakugou’s contact. The phone rings for a few seconds before the call is declined. “He must be busy,” he says emotionlessly. He slips his phone back into the pocket of his expensive jeans.
The same goes for Sero and Jirou. However, Jirou’s call rings for a few extra seconds. Almost as if Bakugou was contemplating answering, but ultimately decided not to. Which is farther than the others got. Shinsou refuses to even make an attempt.
He waves his hand emphatically. “Oh, no. I am not risking life and limb for a silly game. He’s hated me since I threatened to shave Red Riot’s head if he didn’t stop singing “Let it Go” every night back in second year.”
Kaminari winces. Yeah, that hadn’t been a pretty sight. Bakugou quite likes Kirishima’s longer hair. Midoriya as well, but he’s not as passionate. That’s not to say he didn’t also corner Shinsou and make sure he knows not to threaten one of his partners ever again. For any reason.
The interviewer turns their gaze on Kaminari. “You’re up, Chargebolt.”
“Alright, someone get me connected to the big screen. We’re going all out on this.” Kaminari rubs his hands together gleefully. He will never stop loving surprising Bakugou with random calls, and showing the world what a wild Dynamight looks like. So far, he's facetimed Bakugou during an interview to see him eating lunch, getting ready for a shower (the fans loved that one), getting a suit fitted for a hero gala, working out (the fans also loved that one), chasing somebody's pet frog down the road (don't ask), cooking, doing laundry, and one memorable moment during a fight with a villain.
The home screen of Kaminari’s phone is projected on the large screen behind their seats. A picture of Kaminari and Sero kissing on the beach at sunset is displayed. Kaminari preens at the coos that ring out around the room. “Yes, I know. We’re adorable. Moving on,” he taps a few times, mindful not to show anything incriminating, embarrassing or inappropriate. Mina will not appreciate it if he accidentally flashes her “spicy pictures” she sends to be approved. All the important bits are covered, but the poses are still a bit provocative.
Bakugou’s display picture is not flattering, in any way. It was taken when Kirishima and Midoriya teamed up to prank their partner on April Fools. Let it be known, Bakugou yelling profanities while covered in rainbow glitter is not the least bit attractive.
“Make sure to stay quiet when he answers or he’ll hang up immediately,” Kaminari warns.
The room goes silent when the call is picked up. The screen stays completely black. “Whad’a want?” Bakugou slurs, voice deep and rough from sleep. “It’s my f’king day off. Wanna sleep.”
“Bro, it’s one p.m.”
“Your point?” Bakugou snarks. There’s fumbling then the screen lights up. Bakugou pulls his hand away from his bedside lamp. He’s naked from the waist up, something many audience members appreciate.
Kaminari ignores him. “I wanted to say hi.”
“I swear to fucking god, Dunce Face, if you called me to tell me about the procreation process of sea horses again I will shove my hand so far up your ass and yank your spine out of-” Kaminari mutes the call. He cautiously glances at the interviewer, unsure if he’ll get in trouble for Bakugou’s brazenness.
After extensive lessons on how to react to the media, Bakugou finally calmed down enough to be trusted to do interviews. He has a long list of rules that keep him on a tight leash, so it’s not often the public gets to witness his unfiltered true personality. The interviewer gives Kaminari a small smile to let him know it’s okay.
Kaminari unmutes the call when Bakugou stops to take a breath. “Slow down. Can’t a bro call up his bro just to say hi?”
“They can. You don’t.”
“Babe,” a husky voice calls. A chiseled arm slides over Bakugou’s chest and settles on his pecs. “Who is it?”
Not even All Might could keep the explosion of sound from happening. Not a single person in the audience is silent or still in their seat. It’s enough to startle Bakugou into losing his grip on his phone. One second he’s laying in bed, the next he’s sitting straight up. Another body props itself on Bakugou’s shoulder.
Kaminari’s eyes widen. As they shift the blankets fall down enough to show the men are completely naked. Nothing indecent is revealed, but there is no mistaking the clear expanse of skin leading under the blanket. Neither of them notice.
“Kaminari,” Bakugou says dangerously. Kaminari knows he’s fucked. Bakugou is like a parent. Only using real names when someone is in deep shit. “Where the fuck are you?”
“At a live interview,” Kaminari squeaks.
Bakugou takes a deep breath in. Kirishima, not fully awake, rubs soothing circles on Bakugou’s chest and places small kisses across his shoulder. “You know it’s my day off,” he states.
“Yes.”
“You know I like to do nothing on my days off,” another statement.
“Yes.”
“So, why the absolute flying flippity fuck fucking flipwits would you fucking facetime me on my motherfucking day off during a fucking live interview!” Bakugou finally screams.
Bakugou’s PR team is gonna have a field day cleaning up after this clusterfuck.
The smart thing would be to end the call. Unfortunately, Kaminari has come to terms with not being smart and Bakugou is too geared up to kill someone to think straight.
“I didn’t think you’d be with them!” Kaminari defends.
“Why the fuck wouldn’t I be?” Bakugou roars. He clutches at the edge of the blanket trying to slip down more. If he weren’t naked there is no doubt he’d be furiously pacing the room.
“I’m sorry! I wasn’t thinking!”
“Fucking obviously!”
The door opens before Bakugou can get any more worked up. A green head pokes through. “What’s the problem? I heard all the yelling.” Midoriya walks in wearing nothing but a pair of too big boxers sitting low on his hips.
“Get the fuck out, Deku!” Bakugou tosses a pillow in Midoriya’s direction. Midoriya eeps and retreats to safety. It’s too early for him to deal with Bakugou’s tantrums. He’ll leave that to his other partner, who is busy drooling on Bakugou’s bare shoulder.
Unsure of what to do, Kaminari switches the camera to show the rest of the room. “Say hello to everyone, Kacchan.”
Bakugou’s scream of rage is cut off by a large hand over his mouth. He glares furiously at Kirishima. “Shh, Kats,” Kirishima mumbles, irritated at being woken once more. He opens one eye and stares into Kaminari’s soul. “Denki, you’re very lucky I’m too tired to deal with this. I’m going to hang up, go back to bed with my fiances, and you’re going to deal with this mess because it’s your fault. Got it?”
Kaminari nods hurriedly. Of course he’d deal with this. He’d never dump that onto his friends. “Got it!”
The call ends.
Kaminari slowly looks up at the shell shocked crowd. The only one moving is Shinsou. He’s full body laughing, hands over his mouth and tears in his eyes. “That was even better than I hoped!” he wheezes.
“You knew,” Kaminari gasps. “You knew they would be together and you still let me call him?”
“Bakugou insulted me on the last mission we worked together on. I needed payback.”
“Uh hem,” the interviewer clears their throat attempting to bring the disaster of an interview back to some semblance of sense. “Was DynaRiot just confirmed?” they whisper reverently.
“Even better,” Shinsou smirks. “DynaDekuRiot was just confirmed.”
Kaminari drops his head into the crease of Sero’s shoulder with a loud groan. Shinsou just had to be a little shit and make Kaminari’s job of damage control ten times harder.
