We Need to Talk
“So are we going to talk about the thing you said up there?” Jake said as he mopped up the water that had gotten into the shop since they hadn’t fully closed the garage door in their rushing out to save the day like always and a real downpour had started just before they got back.
“I wasn’t planning on it,” he said doing his best to avoid showing how embarrassed he was that he’s slipped up and blurted out how he felt about Jake to him. It wasn’t even the closest call they’d ever had but for some reason when that near miss cracked the canopy he’d blurted it out and now Jake knew. He’d hoped that in the heat of the moment Jake hadn’t heard him but then once the lunatic with a tank had been taken down so that even the Enforcers could handle him Jake had started to bring it up.
Fortunately a sudden foul weather turn had ended it before it began and they’d been busy enough navigating back to the hanger in the storm which was still raging outside. Of course he should have known that Jake wasn’t going to let things go. “Chance, I think we really should talk about what you said,” Jake said again after a moment. “I mean it’s just surprising that you feel that way.”
“Just drop it Jake,” he said annoyed. “It slipped out and it doesn't mean anything.” He ignored the slightly hurt look on Jake’s face it couldn’t mean anything. He grabbed a mop and began to help Jake finish mopping up.
“I’m going to go mop up any water that got into the hanger when we came back,” Jake finally said after a tense silence and walked to the door. “I hope you don’t mean what you just said cause it does mean something to me Chance.” He turned then but Jake was gone disappeared out the door leaving him standing alone unsure if he should follow him or not.
He finally decided against it and walked over to the front door of the garage and turned the sign to closed there was no way anyone was driving all the way out here in this rain storm. So unless they got a call to pick up a stranded costumer they were probably done for the night. He realized after a moment that he had no idea how long he’d been staring out into the rain. He sighed and turned around to find Jake standing behind him. “Jake,” he said startled but before he could say anything else Jake leaned forward quickly and kissed him. He definitely was enjoying it but he was also unable to figure out how to respond so he tried to back up and together they hit the door and fell out into the rain. He looked down at Jake who was glaring at him with wet fur and then Jake started laughing and he did the same.
“Well my grand romantic gesture completely fell flat didn’t it,” Jake said when he stopped laughing as they laid in the puddle in front of the garage. “So ready to talk about things now?”
“Yeah but let’s get inside and dried off first,” he said and Jake stood up and offered him his hand and he took it easily.
The End
