Chapter 1: A Stalking Stroll

Chapter Text

She finally reaches the far corner of the park. She sits on a lone park bench and sighs. She looks tired, maybe upset.
You hope there wasn’t a person responsible.
She closes her eyes, as if in meditation. You decide that today is the day. You knew what she liked and what she didn’t like. You wish this could have been her birthday. Waiting four months and seven days later could make this moment so much sweeter.
As quietly as you can, you slink from the tree you were hiding behind and over to the bench. You slowly sit, but the bench creeks. She opens her eyes and nearly jumps out of the bench.
“Woah, easy there. It’s just me.” You say, careful to make the tone of your voice a mix of kind and worried.
She stares at you, but her expression, luckily, is just a confused one.
“You’re a jumpy one, aren’t you?” You add.
She scans you, head to toe, still looking dumbfounded. You see her turn her feet in the opposite direction. She must want to leave. You scoot yourself closer.
“So, are you waiting for someone? It just seems kind of odd for you to be sitting so far away from the running trail.”
She crosses her arms and moves to the edge of the bench.
You rest your arms on your thighs and stop yourself from scooting any closer. You give her a warm smile.
“No,” She finally answers. “I’m just having some alone time. Things have been pretty hectic lately.”
She talked to you! Her voice is even more angelic than you remember. You take this moment to scoot closer. “Look, I know this is sudden, very sudden. If you’re free tonight, can I have the pleasure of taking you out to dinner?”
She doesn’t respond. About thirty seconds go by. You must had been too blunt.
“Hey, I get it if you don’t want me to be your boyfriend. I just wanted to take this chance to ask you out.” You rub the back of your neck, trying your best to look shy and nervous.
“Well…” She pauses for a moment. “It’s just that I don’t know you. So…”
You nod. “Don’t worry, I get it. I suppose I’d be a little weirded out too if a stranger came up and asked me on a date.”
She seems to relax. Your fake response to her rejection worked out well. However, things will get trickier the more she dodges you. With a smile on your face and a bit of pain in your heart, you get up from the bench. “I’d better get going then. It was nice talking to you.” You walk to the nearest hiking path and follow it until you are completely out of her sight. You expected this type of answer. It’s time to set round two into motion.
