It was Nonna's idea to see the Pride Parade together because she wanted to support her grandson, something Nicky was eternally grateful for. When Nicky picked up his Nonna at the nursing home, Nonna's carer Lina had painted the LGBT flag on Nonna's face, and Nonna was wearing a shirt that said: "Nonna is proud of her grandson and loves him.". Nicky hugged his Nonna and thanked her once again for her support. Then they left for the Pride Parade. They had fun until the moment someone pushed Nicky, and he was spun around. When Nicky turned around again, it was there he realized he had lost his Nonna.
Nicky searched and searched for his Nonna, but no one had seen his Nonna. Nicky was just about to call the police when his phone rang.
"Nonna?" Nicky shouted. He couldn't hear anything because of the loud music. "Nonna, where are you?"
"My name is Joe," Joe said. "You can find your Nonna with the Samaritans. I text you our location."
Nicky ran through the streets and found his Nonna sitting on a gurney, talking with an older man.
"Nicky," Nonna said when Nicky hugged her. "I didn't mean to worry you, but I saw Ernest - a friend I haven't seen for years. It was also there I realized I had lost you. It was Ernest's idea to ask the Samaritans for help."
Nicky shook Ernest's hand, and they greeted each other.
"I'm glad you're ok, Nonna," Nicky said. "But if it wasn't Ernest I talked with, who was it? Who is this Joe?"
"Guilty as charged," A man said with curls, brown eyes, and a smile with dimples that made Nicky's heart beat really fast. "Remember to drink it all. It goes for everyone."
Joe handed bottles of water to everyone.
"Sorry," Nicky said, a bit confused. "Who are you? It goes both for Ernest and Joe."
"Let me, Joe," Ernest said. "I knew your Nonna when she was your age, Nicky. I hadn't seen her for years before today. Life happened back then. My name is Ernest Mack, and I used to be a Doctor. Joe was one of my last students before I retired."
"I didn't mean to worry you, Nicky," Nonna said. "But you know my mind isn't what it was."
Nicky kissed his Nonna on the forehead.
"I'm just glad you're safe, Nonna," Nicky said. "And thanks, Ernest and Joe, for taking care of my Nonna."
"We would be really bad Doctors if we didn't help people," Joe said. "Be back in a moment. Someone needs help. Drink the water."
Joe walked over to a woman who needed help with a bleeding hand.
"Nicky?" Nonna said. "Could I talk alone with Ernest for a moment? Then we will go out and eat dinner as promised."
"Sure thing," Nicky replied. "I'll be waiting over there, somewhere."
Nicky walked a bit away so he wouldn't listen to their conversation.
"You know what, Nicky?" Joe said. "There's something romantic over meeting an old love again."
Joe placed his elbow on Nicky's shoulder. It made Nicky's heart beat even faster than before.
"Let me guess," Nicky said. "You're an incurable romantic."
Joe laughed.
"Also guilty as charged," Joe replied with a big smile. "So, tell me, Nicky. Do you want to eat lunch with me tomorrow? Know a great place that makes the best chicken sandwiches in the world."
Nicky stared at Joe, trying to process what Joe had just said.
