Work Text:
Pride is today and you’re depressed.
It goes against the meaning of the season, but you can’t seem to force yourself out of bed.
You want to go to pride, you really do, but the last time you went it’d been with Ian.
A loud groan leaves your lips as you cover your face with your pillow. Just thinking about him made you want to cry.
“Sunspot?”
Your loud outburst of course got the attention of Jack.
He’d been worried of course, but it was your day off. Deep down he was hoping you were just sleeping in, and that nothing was wrong. Now his worst fear was realized, you were suffering without him.
“Breakfast is almost done, why don’t you get up and we’ll eat?” Jack stands in the doorway, watching worriedly as you slowly peel the pillow from your face.
“Sorry.” Slowly you sit up.
“I just don’t feel very good today.”
“Do you want to stay home today instead of going to Pride?”
You flinch.
You had been excited, telling Jack (who’d never heard of Pride before) all about it, and promising the two of you would go together this year.
“I-” The last thing you want to do is let down Jack, he does so much for you, but the thought of going without Ian-
“I don’t know.” Your voice is barely above a whisper, and you see the way Jack frowns hard, crossing the doorway to come join you on the bed.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” He asks gently, wrapping an arm around your shoulder, pulling you into his side.
All you do is nod, pressing yourself closer to his comforting presence.
“It’s just…” You trail off, knowing Jack doesn’t like it when you mention Ian. “Last time I went to Pride it was with him. ”
“Ian?” He asks for confirmation which you give with a nod, officially hiding your face in his toned chest.
Jack’s grip on you tightens protectively.
“Well,” His voice is still gentle, but chipper as he speaks.
“I won’t make you go, but let's see how you feel after some pancakes.”
Pancakes, Jack's homemade pancakes, do sound amazing right now.
You give another small pathetic nod against his chest.
“And if after eating you do decide to go, we’ll make lots of new memories, just the two of us.”
He’s right.
Of course Jack’s right, it feels like he always is.
You can’t let Ian keep you from living your life and having fun.
And it’s not like you’re alone either, you have Jack beside you.
You’ll eat your pancakes, go to Pride, and have a good time.
