A few months after the bridge collapsed everything at the 118 has returned to normal, well almost everything. Hen, Ravi, Chimney, and Bobby are all sitting around the kitchen island looking at Buck and Eddie. They’ve all known how close the two have been, but after the bridge collapse, and them finding out that Buck would become Chris’s legal guardian, if something were to happen to Eddie, things just felt different. They all were watching Buck and Eddie arguing over what movie they should watch for their movie night with Chris.
“Oh come on Buck! We’ve seen “Princess Bride” like one hundred times already!”
“Ok, but you’re just mad that I’ve made Chris love it! So fine we can “Despicable Me” just for you to stop being mad.
Eddie smiles slightly and makes his way into the kitchen.
“You two fight just like my parents use to” Ravi says while picking at some snacks Bobby just put out.
“Are you implying that we’re an old married couple!?” Eddie whispers yells at Ravi?
“I mean yeah. You to are attached to the hip! I feel that I never seen either of you without the other.”
Hen, Chim, and Bobby all laugh a little.

The last few hours of their shift have been quiet, not that any of them would dare to utter the word out loud. They only had 10 emergencies in their 24 hour shift, which was considered below normal. Everyone decided to disperse into a section of the firehouse. Bobby went to do some paper work, Hen went to the ambulance to double check the supplies, Ravi went to play some pool with Chim, and Buck and Eddie were trying to get some sleep. The quietness of the firehouse was soon interrupted by the loud ring of the bell.
“Alright everyone let’s gear up and move!” Bobby yelled
A few minutes earlier
”911 what is your emergency” Maddie answers calmly as always.
“This is an automated message for the school of Washington Middle School. There has been an intruder in the building and is firing a weapon.”
”Okay, police, firefighters and paramedics will be on scene shortly.” Maddie replies as she hangs up.
“Guys there’s been a shooting reported at Washington Middle School, the line might get flooded by parents calling 911 after receiving a text from their child, tell them help is on the way and to hang up.” Josh says entering the floor.
“Hold on you said Washington Middle School?” Linda asks shocked.
“Yea, why?” Josh asks confused
“Maddie did you dispatch the 118?”
”Yeah they’re the closest firehouse, I also sent some additional houses just incase and some more police.”
”You don’t know? Washington Middle School is the school that Chris goes to.” Linda says rushed
”Oh no. I’ve gotta tell Bobby! We can’t have Eddie or Buck on scene helping.” Maddie says reaching for her phone.

“Bobby”
”Hey Maddie”
”Look I need you to listen! This call that you’re being sent to is about a school shooter. The shooter is at Chris’s school Bobby. You can’t have Eddie or Buck be helping they’ll get to impulsive with how they react.”
”Ok got it, thanks for the heads up.” Bobby says looking back at Eddie and Buck, who are laughing.
“Buck, Eddie I need you to listen to me very carefully. We’re being dispatched to a school shooting at Chris’s school.”
“What?” Eddie asks shaking.
“Eddie you and Buck need to sit out. There’s going to be chaos and their additional houses being dispatched. When the whole scene is clear he needs you two to help him realize that he’s safe.”
“Got it cap.” Buck reply’s for both of them while helping Eddie not freak out as much.

“Caption Nash” Athen says walking up to him.
”Sergeant Grant, what can we do to help?” Bobby asks calmly.
”As of right now, nothing. The police are making a plan as to what is going to happen, we just need you to block the scene. It would help that you guys be there for the kids when they come out.”
“Got it and be safe in there Athena.”
“Alright 118, just been giving status that the police are still making a plan as to how they’re going to enter the school. The best we can do is block off the exits and to wait.” Bobby says calmly looking at Buck and Eddie, for the most part.
“So we’re just meant to sit and wait while there is a shooter inside on the verge of taking lives!?” Eddie asks angrily.
”Eddie I kno-“
“No you don’t know, Bobby! I’ve almost abandoned my kid countless of times, but now he might abandon me! Why can’t we just rush in, he’s outnumbered for fuck sakes!”
“Eddie!” Buck yells as Eddie makes his way toward the police.
“Buck let him go. He needs to cool off and Athena will tell him why that’s a bad idea. We just need to be here for him and for Chris when he makes it out.” Hen says butting in.
Buck almost didn’t pick up on how Bobby worded it, when not if.
“Buck how are you holding up?” Ravi chimes in.
“Honestly, not so great, but I’m trying not to let it show. Someone’s gotta be ready to help the Diaz boys when they come out of this. I mean I don’t even understand why someone would do this.”
“There’s reasons why we can’t understand why someone would do something, but we try and help them.” Chimney says.

“Eddie!” Officer Bradford yells, Officer Chen right next to him.
“I’m sorry Tim, I’ve got to save my kid!” Eddie yells rushing into the building.
Everyone turns their head to look at Eddie running in with a gun, one of officer’s Bradfords.
”Eddie!” Buck yells trying to go after him, but being stopped by Bobby.
”Buck! Think about this. God forbid Eddie gets hurt and so does Chris who’s gonna be there to help them. You have to stay, if Eddie doesn’t make it out Chris is going to need his other guardian. The will Buck!” Bobby says.
Buck looked at Bobby tears threatening to escape, but they never do.
“Bobby, how do you know about that?”
“That’s not important right now, kid, you just need to pull yourself together.”
Before Buck ever had time to respond there was a loud noise. It didn’t register in Buck that it was a gun shot. Without any hesitation, he pushed Bobby to the ground and rushed in.
“What are you guys doing!? Follow him!” He heard Athena say while he entered the building.
He made sure to be fast, quiet, and stealthy. He didn’t know if the gun shot he heard was from Eddie or the intruder.
He had just turned the corner when he say Eddie on the ground bleeding out and another body next to him.
“EDDIE! Are you with me?”
He didn’t get a response. Buck felt a strength build up in him and he lifted Eddie onto his shoulder and started running out.
“MEDIC! I NEED A MEDIC!”
A crash cart came over and Buck placed Eddie on it. He started to follow the cart, but remembered that Chris was still inside. He waited till he came out and they, along with the 118, drove the the hospital.

Once they arrived at the hospital they were all told to wait in the waiting room and that Eddie was being put into surgery. Athena arrived about an hour later, saying that the intruder was in custody, thanks to Eddie. Buck and Chris were sat next to each other. Every movement Chris made, made Buck just scared he was going to leave his side. Buck was lost in thought when he heard…
“Family of Edmundo Diaz?” A nurse called out.
“That us!” Bobby called out.
“Well Mr. Diaz was a very like guy, the bullet hit him in the shoulder, the same place where he got shot before. The bullet didn’t do serious harm. He is awake in his room. We are welcoming visitors in, but limit yourselves to 1 or 2 people at a time.”
“Buck, Chris, why don’t you two go in awhile.”
Buck gave Bobby a sad, but appreciative smile before he and Chris followed the nurse.
