Chapter Text

It happened completely accidental. Or so he claimed. Just one of those random events you know? And you just had to grow past it and continue on and NOT CALL THE POLICE. The last was spoken in a rushed shot, because that was exactly what Macey was doing, reaching for the phone because some strange…bodymorph suit of a man had fallen out of her cupboards.
She had opened it up to reach for a mug, only to have a flailing hand reach back, then an arm, then a whole face as behind him briefly she could see a…a void of some sort where her ceramics once were. Panic set in, instincts took over and Macey, faced with an oncoming body of white,  slammed it back shut on him, and for a vey brief moment held it there. Until the force of too much person in too small a space forced the hinges and the whole door popped, spilling him out onto the tiles.
A litany chant of ‘whattheshitwhattheshit’ running through her mind and possibly her mouth, she scrambled for the side table that held her phone and charger.

“No, Wait! Just..just a second”
Macey did not wait, not even a second as she fumbled for the device. Her rush made her hands shaky, grabbing it but sending it sprawling onto the ground from the momentum.
she dove for it.
A white hand (inhuman white, bleached paper white) reached it first and held it up.

“AhA! Now if you could…really?”
Forgoing the phone, Macey was reaching for anything else within her radius. Scrambling back as she started trying to pelt the thing with it.
Her aim was admittedly, terrible.  Trembling causing them to fly off in any direction. The figure sighed, leaning to the side as a cushion whooshed past and landed in the sink.

“Okay, I can see your having a moment here, so im just going to…leave. Yea”
And the strange person who’s skin moved and reflected more like water than actual anything else, who was speaking, speaking without a mouth (or a nose, or even eyes to see. It had to be a bodysuit, right? It didn’t seem like a bodysuit though. Something about the whole thing screamed wrong wrongwrong) reached out to pinch himself.
Only to freeze, then start patting his body all over. Head tilting as he looked around him more and more frantically.

“Where..ah..were are they?”
Macey did not answer, looking towards the front door. Judging if she could get there quicker than this guy could. She probably could, he didn’t seem

focused on her right now.

“Where are my holes”

“…what?” The strangeness of that sentence alone caused her to trip over mentally and screech her panic to a halt. Glancing at him, then to the ground to see if, indeed he had dropped anything. It was brief, a quick there and back, but it forced her to hesitate and take the guy in. Actually look at him.
It hurt to. It hurt because the guy looked too clean, too rounded. His frantic movements as he got more and more agitated had a flowyness that seemed strange. Graceful almost. With a body build that looked more at home on a cartoon than what physics would allow in real life, too top heavy. To bulky. It wasn’t muscle, she couldn’t see muscle moving under that white layer at all, but it didn’t jiggle or move with momentum like fat would. It was…solid?
And the way the light interacted with it.

“….what…are you”

“Well that’s rude, also, im glad you asked”
He drew himself up. Straightening into a pose. He was posing.

“Im…the Spot”
Maceys eyes flickered towards the door again. She could still make it.

“..aaand..what’s that?”

“Really?” his not-face dropped into his hands. Taking a deep drawn in breath as he began muttering. “It’s okay…it’s okay. They haven’t heard of me. I tried starting small. That was my mistake.”
Small, what?

“uh, sir?” He snapped to attention and Macey tried not to lean back from the sudden not-stare. “It’s just that, you kind of came out of my shelves and I don’t..i don’t know how your…here..at all..as..” she waves vaguely at him but dropped the movement halfway through. The guy was a person, obviously, had a name and everything. And he didn’t seem violent but it was still a stranger, in her apartment, and the pins and needles of adrenalin were still coursing through her telling her to run from this alien threat.

“Oh, interdimensional warping. Or tearing. I think”

“What?”

“I’m not exactly sure, it’s a new science and I’m kind of theorising as I go but I had these holes see…” and he gestured around himself as if to show them off “..and they lead to, well, anywhere really.”

“Like...my cupboard”

“Yea! Pretty cool right?”

riiight” Macey tugged a second cushion closer in case it needed throwing. Not sure how to take this...babble. Though his obvious...otherworldliness kind of lead some credence to his words. As strange as they were. “..and can these holes..take you..elsewhere then?”
Please let them be able to take him back. Please. Looking at him too long was forming a headache.

“Yes, in theory. Just I kind of..maybe…” waiving a hand in a rolling motion that somehow actually rotated in a perfect circle as he explained it “.. ran out of them”  And Macey knew this guy all of thirty or so seconds by now, perhaps even a full minute. But she could of sworn that faceless visage was radiating sheepishness.

“Okay. So, how do you get them back?”

“Good question!” holding up a finger and then hesitating. “I don’t know” curling that finger back down. “But I have theories” he hurried on, as if not knowing was somehow a crime that needed avoiding. “I recreate the events that made me in the first place for one. That would probably work. But the collider explosion was a mess and its not like I remember the exact place I was standing, not to mention that it would probably take out the power grid in doing so and something like that would be a one off, and I don’t have any equipment here and the entire place seems to run different…” here he ran a finger along a bench top and squinted at the difference in rendering, giving a small shudder “.. which is so weird by the way, no offence”
That she could agree on at the very least but found no reason to voice it. She wanted to engage as little with this as possible, letting his ramblings (now going into far more maths and equations than she could follow along with and seem more for his benefit than hers)  wash over as white noise as she looked around.

Okay...okay. So this was happening. This was real.
She had the worlds ultimate gate crasher currently pacing in the mess of her kitchen, throwing out something about quantum theory and alternate dimensions and finding some sort of particle collider (and that sounded alarming in itself and she should probably put a stop to that?)

“Oh we don’t have those” she was quick to point out, stopping Spot dead in his tracks.

“Excuse me?”

“colliders? We don’t…actually...have any of those” Excluding The Large Hadron Collider near France which was probably not what he meant AT all and didn’t need mentioning just to be safe.

“No privately owned tech labs?”

“No”

“Experimental robotics?”

“I mean...government funded ones?”

“pfft, Government grants. Like THEY would ever make any headway” spoken with no small amount of scorn. “What do you do for your supervillains then?”

“We .don’t .actually .have supervillains?” Macey said, high and strangled. Supervillains? They were a thing? Like an actual thing?

“Huh” his tone suggested utter befuddlement. Like the thought hadn’t occurred to him.

“Well, what about heroes?”

“I’m concerned why your asking me that” Her sudden chattiness stemming from her growing unease. Which Was not helped by the way spot seem to still. There was something unnerving about it, whatever points of reference which made him seem ‘human’ just…froze. And with it so did Macey.

“so there are no heroes?”

“Ah, I mean, firefighter? Nurses? They’re usually seen as heroic” she tried, hoping it would appease him somehow.

“Nurs..no, I don’t mean people” he began, voice rising and drawing up with it. Somehow getting bigger.  “I mean actual heroes. Super heroes. Heroes like spiderman!”
what?

“How can I be a villain if there are no heroes to go against. Okay. How can i? Huh?”
Macey shrugged helplessly as she inched back as Spot advanced, twitchy and agitated and gesturing with his hands in sharp motions. “Exactly, I can’t. Without a HIM, there can’t be a ME. If there isnt a ME…” drawing his hands into a beseeching gestuire at his chest “..then what.Am.I”

“..I don’t know…” and Macey hated how her voice wobbled in that note. How her legs began to tremble, if she ran for it now she would fumble, and her brain screamed running would only get her hurt. To roll over, to appease this stranger so he wouldn’t attack.
She had met shady people on the street, who hadn’t? It was new-york. Learning how to quick step to avoid alleyway entrances or perfect that look of seeing the street without meeting anyone’s eye. A navigational skill, but never had she had this bizarre fury erupt in front of her.
Never had she been targeted by someone’s crazy and been the only thing in range.

“I don’t know..”

“ Im nobody, im nothing. Alright?! And I refuse to be that. Ever. Again” and he was still advancing. Backing her up out of the kitchen and into her small square of a living room. She didn’t have much, And she was fast running out of it. Tripping and sprawling over the couch (sans its cushions) and upturning the coffee table as she landed. The stack of movies on it’s surface scattering across the floor.

“Okay, look..okay” it was like a switch had flipped, the anger dropping and giving way as he backed up a step. “..I got a little intense there. That’s on me. I will try to avoid…”and as he stepped back his foot knocked one of the dvd’s.

“..whats this?” reaching out in curiosity to hold one up.

“a movie, a film?” Macey tried throwing out, still high pitched and hoping that was the answer he wanted.

“no no I mean. Who’s this on the front?”

“Uh…” her mind had gone blank upon seeing it. She knew the actor, knew the franchise but for the life of her couldn’t place it right then. She was god damn awful at spot-quizzes. Her breath speeding up as tears started to well.
Oh god, she couldn’t answer.
Oh god she was going to die!

“There’s really no need for that. Just...try deep breathing or something and..”

“TOM HARDY” she blurted, it finally coming to her like a divine bolt from above. Shouting it as if the answer could bludgeon him away from this whole terrible event.

“Ow, loud. So, why is he dressed up like spider man?”

“What?” The guy was obsessed. “it’s not. It’s venom”

“oh, so just a coincidence then” more to himself than an answer.
But Macey was scared and shaking and barreled on, locking onto the fact that this was good. This was stopping him from blowing up again. She needed to keep that going, until she could figure out a way to slip out of notice.

“Venoms a villain. Got popular enough he started his own series and everything. In the comics …”

“There are comics too?” said with some giddy interest. Perking up at the word ‘villain’ and ‘popular’ .

“I don’t have any”

“Oah”

“…but I have movies!” she threw out hurriedly. “Some of them. At least”
And was it the best to be telling this guy who obviously fashioned himself as some sort of comic book villain about this?
Shut up her inner self sniped back. The guy is a literal cartoon come to life. He can be whatever he wants to be , do NOT piss him off.
This was so far out of left field that her only concern right now was to get out of this safely. To survive. There was danger here, so much she didn’t know how much. If that meant having a movie night with the would-be-villain then that’s what was going to happen.

“Oh cool. Can I watch them?”
Oh hell, that was actually going to happen.

Notes:

Fun Fact: With the absense of Heroes or Villains in 'our' reality and the collateral that comes with it, Spot hypothsises that this is some bizzare Utopia world. Macey immediately starts choking on air when he mentions this.
