"I'm not sharing an umbrella with you."
Todoroki looks at him like Katsuki just said the dumbest thing he has ever heard.
He's standing under his stupid expensive looking umbrella一it's black, no pattern whatsoever, how does it look so expensive一tilting it towards Katsuki the slightest bit. Katsuki who refuses to leave his dry spot under the porch roof.
"That's for couples," he adds because Todoroki probably doesn't know that, because he doesn't know a lot of things every other person his age knows.
"It's also for people who do not want to get wet," Todoroki retorts, tilting the umbrella even further and Katsuki is sure his back is getting wet.
Katsuki stands his ground. He'll just wait for the rain to stop. Which一well, it doesn't look like it's stopping any time soon.
"I saw you sharing an umbrella with Ashido once. With Kirishima, too," Todoroki says and yeah, that happened because sharing an umbrella with friends is not a big deal. Katsuki doesn't care. But sharing an umbrella with his stupid crush? That's a different story.
"That's different," Katsuki mutters. It sounds stupid even to himself. He feels stupid. Making a big deal out of nothing. Only it's not nothing. Not really. Not to him.
"Different how?"
Katsuki doesn't reply, he just keeps staring at an invisible spot past Todoroki's head.
"It doesn't have to mean anything," Todoroki says and Katsuki huffs in response. "Unless you want it to. I do."
He turns his head towards Todoroki, mismatched eyes looking back at him, searching. Earnest.
He's waiting for Katsuki's response, probably. For him to say something. Anything.
Katsuki's tongue feels incredibly heavy.
"I think you do, too. Want it to mean something, I mean," Todoroki says. Delivers the final blow. "Unless I misunderstood?"
"Yes! No一No, you didn't. Misunderstand. Me too. I want一that," he stutters lamely, word vomit falling out of his mouth so fast he isn't sure Todoroki even understood him.
He takes a deep breath then, refuses to look like a giant loser after Todoroki calmly confessed to him.
"I want you," he says as he steps under the umbrella, reaching for the handle and with it Todoroki's hand. It's the colder one but it feels nice nonetheless.
Todoroki's gaze wanders towards their hands.
"Let's go then," he says and Katsuki thinks he's never seen Todoroki smile like that.
