Chapter Text
Ash was in the middle of a dark forest which felt familiar, although she had never been there before, with Nectar and two unfamiliar looking dragons. With shrieks of fear and pain, the ground underneath them split in two, with dragons falling into it, and dragons flying out of it. Suddenly, there was an explosion, but she wasn’t afraid. She and the three other dragons with her were flying up towards the sky, but the Icewing dragon with her was flying away, yelling to stay calm.
Near the forest they were in, she saw a gorgeous, stagnant ocean of water so deep of a blue. Then, she saw about one hundred Nightwings rushing towards the turmoil. Then, suddenly, everything went white, and she woke up.
“Ash, are you okay?” She heard the familiar voice of her mother, Starsight. “You were talking in your sleep again. I hope it isn’t a prophecy or something.” She looked worried, and had about a dozen scrolls in her talons. “Oh, don’t mind these. I’ve just been trying to document to the best of my understanding what you’re saying in your sleep.” She walked toward the opening of their hut.
From as much as Ash could see, it was almost dawn, which meant that she was going to the rainforest mainland to see Nectar soon. Ignoring the conversation taking place, Ash exclaimed, “I’m so excited to see Nectar! It’s been almost a month since we last saw each other, and her and Sublime have been spending so much time together lately!” As she spoke, her voice got more and more irritated with Sublime than what was intended.
“Ash, I get that you want to spend time with Nectar, but if you had a boyfriend too, you would want to spend a lot of time with him, right?” Ash knew her mother was trying to make her feel better, but it honestly was making it worse. She knew her mother was thinking about her father, Scarwinner. From what Ash had been told, they were madly in love with each other when they were in the Sky Kingdom, but the Nightwing Queen ordered that Scarwinner be executed because of his abandonment from the tribe.
“Mother, I know who you’re thinking about, and it’s not helping either of us.” Ash started. “I was just making a point, but thanks for trying to help.” Her mother shed a small tear of grief, but wiped it away and carried on what she was doing.
Her mother stated, “Why don’t we go over there now?” Her shadowy eyes and gloomy complexion suddenly a little brighter at the sight of her daughter’s gleaming face.
“Seriously?” Ash asked her mother. “Thank you so much!” Her wings and tail twitched at the thought of gliding through the rainforest with Nectar, away from everybody but her best friend. She didn’t even notice the fact that her mother was already leaving their hut, almost flying away, when Ash caught up.
As Ash was catching up with her mother, the pain of her headache from the dream, or rather nightmare, was also catching up to her. She quickly tried to push the thoughts away, as today was supposed to be exciting! There was absolutely no pain happening today!
After feeling and looking uncomfortable in front of her mother, she finally exclaimed, “Ash, are you okay? We’re almost there, but you look a little,” She paused for a moment, “Depressed?” A look of concern quickly spread across her mother’s face.
“I’m fine mom.” She quickly explained. As she was uncomfortable with the current conversation, she changed it to, “Look! We’re almost there!” A spread of joy crawled through her scales. Her and Nectar often joked that, if she was a Rainwing, she would always have bright yellow scales.
As she approached the rainforest mainland, she heard a familiar loud voice from below scream, “Ash!” She immediately recognized the voice as her best friend, Nectar.
