Work Text:
There was no way to describe how she was feeling. She thought they were getting closer. She thought they were finally ready. She thought so many things that just aren’t so it seems.
Julie was on her way to Hecate’s office for a chat after classes had ended for the day. They had those now. They were rare at first but now after several months at least once a day, she’ll find herself gravitating towards the potions classroom. The dark witch seemed to mind, she was still vocal about Julie being “a bother” but the few times Julie couldn’t make it in, the witch would go out in search of her and even once told her off because she didn’t find her until late into the night.
.
The blonde thought this was finally happening. What she had wanted for months was to go somewhere but today when she approached the classroom she saw the tall witch tightly embraced by another blonde and very pink witch. Her heart broke at the sight. She knew who it was. Mildred had mentioned her before and how close Hecate and the other blonde witch once were. She immediately spun around and walked as quickly as she could to her art room.

Hours later after skipping supper and working on an art piece, she retires to bed early. However, as she’s getting dressed into her night clothes she’s interrupted by a knock on her door.
“Just a mo!” she shouts out, quickly flinging her shirt over herself and some night shorts before quickly remembering she works and lives in a school. So she throws on her robe for good measure.
“Yes he-“ she says only to stop when she sees the dark witch in front of her.
“You didn’t come in and you weren’t at dinner,” Hecate says, forgoing a greeting and pushing her way into the room. The room opens onto a small kitchen area and leads to her bedroom. It's smaller than any of the other teachers' quarters but she doesn't mind.
“Why yes please, do come in.” Julie bites sarcastically, moving to shut the door.
“Well..”
“Well, what?”
“Well explain yourself, are you ill? You don’t look ill. Is it that time in the moon's cycle? But that can’t be. I recall going into town to bring back chocolate for you just two weeks prior.” The witch rambles.
Embarrassed at obviously having worried the witch but also still slightly angry seeing as the witch was seeing someone else, she does what she does best. She snarks back.
“Why do you care?”
“I beg your pardon?”
“Shouldn’t you be worrying about your girlfriend instead of being here with me?” She continues, moving to fix herself a cup of tea.
“I beg your pardon, girlfriend?! Whatever are you jabbering about.?”
“I saw you with her. You were hugging looking mighty close I might add. It's really none of my business what you do but I just thought… never mind, clearly, I thought wrong.” She mutters, placing the kettle onto the small stove in her quarters.
In seconds the taller witch walks around the small table and over to the blonde. She leans over her until Julie is left pinned to the counter.
“Pippa is nothing more than a friend. She came in to borrow one of my potion books for a project. I assure you that hug was nothing more than a hug between childhood friends. Believe me Julie, there's nothing going on with me and her.” Hecate whispers.
Each sentence is sending a shiver down the blonde's spine, especially with the witch's proximity.
“Promise?” She finds herself asking. Her voice is just as much of a whisper.
“I give you my word.” Hecate promises, her voice clear and punctual so Julie can let the words sink in.
Just as the two get closer and Julie swears the witch is finally going to kiss her, the whistling of the kettle startles them apart.
Cursing herself and the kettle, Julie dislodges herself from the witch and moves the kettle off the burner. As she turns back around and faces a flustered Hecate she can’t help it any longer. She moves back towards the witch and this time has her up against the counter where she pins her with a kiss. In seconds the other woman's arms are clinging to her pushing her up against her. They stand there kissing for hours until the need for air becomes so much that they separate and rest their heads together. Both savored this moment that they both wanted for so long.
“You were jealous.” Hecate whispers in awe.
“Shut it,” Julie responds, her cheeks pink in embarrassment and eyes diverted to the floor.
Hecate has none of that and brings her hand up to Julies face to make her face her, “I have only had eyes for you these past months.” She says in a rather uncharacteristic display of affection but she desperately needs this woman to know it's only ever going to be her. It works too because Hecate is gifted with the brightest smile and it's hard to resist the urge to kiss her so she doesn't resist.
Tomorrow they'll have to figure out the details of their relationship and what that means as colleagues. For now, though the two get lost in each other, months of yearning come to an end in this one moment.
