Work Text:
The occasional Friday playdates were Felix's favorite part of the week.
No matter how bad his week had been, Aunt Emilie was always so kind! His mom was always much happier after their evening tea, too.
It would be so nice if he could only get to experience it for a little longer.
He would even give up what was left of his stuffed bunny to be able to stay at Aunt Emilie's for a little longer. He would even be willing to stay there that very evening knowing Mr. Rabbit was at home.
It wasn't as though he was really allowed to keep him at home either, though. It had been ages since he had turned "too old" to hug him at night.
The best Felix had managed to get was to be allowed to keep Mr. Rabbit besides his bed, on his nightstand.
Sometimes, if he was feeling particularly brave, and really, really needed it, he would dare extend his arm so he could hold Mr. Rabbit's hand.
It had been long since he had last dared try hug him.
The plan was to wake up as early as he could, early enough so that he would have time to put him back on the shelf the bunny used to be before anyone could come inside. Nobody had to know he was still enough of a crybaby to need his stuffed animal.
Especially his father.
And of course, it had gone all wrong.
Felix had been too scared to try and hug him again. So, holding hands it was from then on.
Mr. Rabbit would be a hundred miles away, but it wouldn't be much of a difference anyways.
Adrien was allowed to keep his toys in his room, though. Maybe, if he asked nicely enough, he would allow him to hold one of his stuffies that night.
Maybe, if he asked nicely enough, he could convince his cousin to let him stay there that night.
They were identical. Aunt Emilie always was amused whenever they would accidentally wear the same clothes. The one thing that usually helped her differentiate him and Adrien was their hairstyles. While Father insisted he kept his hair proper, Adrien usually barely brushed his, letting it run wild.
Mom always used to wash the leftover gel from his hair in the shower with shampoo when he was smaller. He had been showering on his own for a while now, he knew how to do it.
Could hand soap work if he washed it off in the sink? Adrien's bathroom had a small towel, for his hands. Maybe it could work on his hair too.
Adrien was lining up some construction blocks while Felix was supposed to find a board game he wanted to play. Felix loved jigsaw puzzles, but they were often too hard to put together if it was two people at once instead of just one. So, he always had to take a while to try and find something that was interesting.
Adrien looked so bored. Maybe bored enough he would like to play a prank. None of them were avid pranksters unless the pranks were on each other having learned their respective lessons about playing with the staff, but maybe…
"Adrien?"
"Oui?" his cousin responded from the other side of the room in French. That… could be an issue. Felix knew enough French, and Adrien knew enough English for the plan to work, but sometimes the slightest hint of an accent slipped into his words. Plus, Adrien was so used to French most of the time he answered in French automatically.
It could work regardless.
It had to.
"I have an idea, it will be so fun!" Felix said, trying to sound as joyful as possible and not show the nervousness that threatened with making his whole body tremble.
"What if we switch places? This week, like in that movie we saw the other day! The one where one girl went with her mom to London and the other went to California!"
Adrien looked at him, unsure what to say for a few seconds.
"But… what if we get caught?" he broke the silence, switching to English. "Like the time we scared Nathalie," he said, a weird tone taking over his words and his expression darkening. "I don't want that again."
Felix remembered that day too. If they were caught… He didn't really want to think about what the punishment would be.
But, could bear a little punishment if he got to experience the peace he always had at Adrien's just for a few days, and he had had sleepovers turned down so many times already he had concluded it wasn't worth trying again. He was used to punishment enough.
"You know my house already! If you just don't speak French it can work!" Felix said, a hint of desperation evident in his tone.
"But…"
"We have switched already! Sure, it's never been for a whole week, but it's the same!"
"That was one time at the park!"
"And the day at the beach? The mall?"
"That didn't go well with Père," Adrien said distantly. While his mother had laughed, Gabriel hadn't found it as amusing. It had been a while until Felix was allowed to visit again.
"If Mom finds out she won't be mad!" Felix replied. "She will laugh! If only she and Aunt Emilie know it will be so much fun!"
"Are you sure?" Adrien asked.
"Totally," Felix said with his best fake smirk.
"But your hair-"
"Mom always washed it off with soap, and if I wash it in your sink they won't hear anything."
"My soap smells different from yours," Adrien pointed out. Ugh, he was right. But…
"Well, I can wash my hair with it! You keep it in the bathroom, right? We just trade clothes and it's perfect! Nobody has to know, we just switch back next week!"
"What's the point in a prank if nobody finds out?"
"We have fun knowing we switched places?" Felix answered tentatively, hoping it would be enough to convince his cousin.
"Please," he said, way more desperate than he wanted to.
"Okay…" Adrien hesitantly caved in.
Felix was ecstatic.
For an entire week, he was going to be happy.
