Work Text:
lucy was exhausted, and rightfully so. she had just completed an operation, still needing to decompress. it was long, dirty and mentally draining. yet when lucy came home, she found herself drowning in silence. suffering in the dark as her home was empty. she could not find her fiancé.
god, she adored saying those words.
right now, she had no messages from tim, no calls and no answers to hers. it was all radio silence. she messaged angela, nyla and aaron, checking if they knew where he was. all denied sightings of him. all she could do was wait.
wait and let her thoughts flood in. just as she did as a child, waiting in the late hours for her parents to arrive home, to listen to their nightly lectures on how she was never good enough. everyone she has ever loved has abandoned her, never listened to her silent screams that poison the water in her mind. tim was the only one who could pull her out of this mess.
children’s cries and the scent of mixed drugs imprinted on her for now, the begs for mercy were engraved in her mind, how she could not do anything to save those people. lucy felt sick. the gunshots, blood splatters, and cries she could not let go just yet. she had the opportunity to pull the plug, but she forced her way through it all. those guys were locked up, but at what cost?
she felt herself letting go, her mind floating out of her body as she stared into the abyss of her anxiety. where the fuck was tim?
at that exact thought, the front door opened. keys jangling as tim stumbled in, a woman following not far behind him. lucy looked up.
tim stalled his movements, looking straight at lucy. “lucy, you’re home?”
lucy could only glare between the blonde, blue eyed woman and tim. she scoffed and backed herself into the hallway, leading to their bedroom.
tim could only sputter nonsense as he realised the connection lucy made. he looked at isabel, silently motioning for her to leave. she left as soon as she could. tim headed for the bedroom. “lucy, it’s not at all what you think.”
he stood at the doorway, staring down at her tired body slumping over the bed. her eyes were bleak.
“is it? that’s what they all say, right?” her voice was going numb.
“lucy, she was visiting again, to speak to me about her engagement too.”
“right.” her voice was cold. tim’s heart broke. he couldn’t imagine the stress she had endured the past few months and for him to just show up with his ex-wife, it would have been the final crack of the dam.
“lucy. i love you.”
“no, don’t you say that. please don’t you say that.”
tim creeped cautiously towards her, his hands out. “lucy, you know i love you and i would never do that to you.”
lucy shook her head. she flinched away from tim, standing up and dragging herself towards the bathroom. “leave me alone, tim. don’t say those words when you brought your ex-wife to our house, after i had repeatedly called you, texted you, asked our friends on your location. you ignored me.”
tim sighed, looking straight at her. guilt in his eyes as he began to follow her, he held out one hand. “lucy, i- “
lucy’s voice cracked. “fuck off!” the only words she was capable of saying. a lump growing in her throat, her tears painting her face with mascara. she slammed the bathroom door closed, locking it and sliding against it, landing on the cold tiled floor. she sobbed.
tim could only rattle the doorknob, put his head against the door and listen to her sobs. he crouched by the door and spoke softly. “lucy, i’m sorry. i messed up and i didn’t mean to ignore you.”
her sobs were the only sound filling the air. “i shouldn’t have brought isabel. i am sorry luce. please forgive me.” he whispered.
it took a few minutes of whispered reassurance, apologies and cries until lucy could consider opening the door. she carefully did, still resting on the ground as the cold air hit her immediately. tim was standing, shuffling himself into the bathroom and knelt to her level. his stiff arms wrapped so perfectly around her, he held her close and caressed her hair. he kissed gently onto her head and rocked her as she continued to let it all go, crying into his shoulder as her fingers gripped the plain tee he wore.
this operation was so far lucy’s hardest. major drug sales turned into a discovered child and sex trafficking ring had brought a lot on her.
all tim could do was help her become herself once more, though each operation tore a piece of her, picking their slice of her precious heart.
she moved her head that had dug itself into the crook of tim’s neck, staring up at him and sniffling. “i’m sorry.”
tim shook his head, wiping away her tears and running his fingers through her loose hairs. “no need to be, i made the mistakes.”
lucy hummed. tim knew what she needed. “how about i order food while you shower, hm?”
she shook her head. “stay with me. shower with me, please.”
tim sighed, knowing that this shower was nothing more than a relaxing shower. he nodded, closing the door and lifting them up together. he stood behind her, kissing her cheek and slowly helping her undress. his fingers ran along her body as he unhooked her bra and hugged her waist. he turned on the hot water as she threw off her left-over clothes. he did the exact same.
tim stepped in after lucy, once again hugging her from behind as she melted into his arms. he rubbed her arms, reassuring her that he was only going to help her wash. hot water spilled down their bodies as the bathroom steamed itself up. lucy could only find herself limp against his body; the warmth was exactly what she needed after keeping on high alert for many months on end.
he lathered shampoo into his hand, then moving it through lucy’s soaked hair. he massaged her head, her shoulders and arms. “i love you lucy.” he whispered. she hummed again, the calming presence of tim, his massages and the scolding water overwhelming her. tim continued the process of washing her until the water turned cold, when they knew it was time to get out.
all tim could do was help her. to dress, to eat and to rest. he had ordered sushi, letting them stay in as they binged top chef. he showered her with love, kisses and reassurance. touching her, reminding her that she is safe, she belongs. after it all, lucy closes her eyes, eventually letting her chaotic mind sleep. she fell asleep in her lover’s arms, letting all her frustrations air themselves out.
