Work Text:
the first snowstorm of the year had finally hit the abbey and it was frigid. most of the inhabitants, if they were not working, were tucked away in their rooms, possibly even staying with others to keep as warm as possible.
the winter was hard enough on everyone with the abbey being made almost entirely of stone, the cold stung and was sure to chill you to your very core. water ghouls had it the worst though, with little to no temperature regulation, some could practically freeze to death if not properly warmed.
one ghoul in particular was suffering greatly from the storm. Water had been napping when a biting cold awoke him, even underneath 2 thick blankets he wasn't safe from the cold. unable to fall back asleep or even warm himself up he decided to dress himself in more appropriate clothes; a comfy sweater pulled over a simple too small t-shirt and a pair of loose sweatpants. not the warmest choices but he couldn't be bothered, now he was on a mission to find his fire ghoul, Alpha.
After grabbing his phone and slipping two pairs of socks on he stepped out of his icy room into an even more icy hallway. with hands tucked into his armpits and face buried in a scarf he managed to find he started the trek to Alphas room. what normally was a short walk became a grueling journey. Water was so cold, every step hurt, it was as if he was freezing from the inside out.
finally he made it to Alphas room, pushing open the door only to find his favorite fire ghoul was not in. the light was on but it looks as if Alpha hadn't been there for a while. Water whined and threw himself on the bed, opting to try and wait, maybe he'd be back soon.
he writhed around on the bed as he pulled blanket upon blanket over him. the blankets had Alphas comforting scent all over them, providing Water with the smallest amount of contact with his mate. he whimpered as he felt the cold start to creep in under the blankets after a while. how much longer would he have to wait? beginning to feel desperate, he pulled his phone out from his pocket. he'd started to shiver, making dialing a difficult process.

over in the common room, Alpha was conversing with his pack while also acting as a large space heater. with him being a fire ghoul and having a core forged in the flames of hell, the winter wasn't a super big deal and he was always willing to help warm up a room.
suddenly his phone rang, he went over to the table it sat on and checked to see who could be calling. upon noticing it was from Water a wave of guilt crashed into him, he hadn't seen him all day and yet still didn't think to check up on him. he smacked himself internally for his neglectful behavior and quickly picked up the phone, turning away from the bustle of his packmates and bringing the conversation somewhere more private.
"Water? love? are you alright? shit, I'm so sorry i didn't check up on you earlier. what do you need, baby?" Alpha stumbled over his words, his mouth moving faster than his brain, he just wanted to make sure Water was ok.
through chattering teeth, Water responded, "its so cold. i need you. please, come warm me up." he tried his best to keep the whine out of his voice.
"alright, where are you right now?"
"your room.."
Alpha wanted to tease Water for barging into his room like that but this clearly wasn't the time. "ok sweetheart, i'll be there soon" and he hung up.
after a short farewell to his friends he was off, practically sprinting to his room.
he opened the door quickly but quietly, not wanting to scare his ghoul. there on his bed was a lump of blankets, shifting with Waters constantly shivering.
he tore his shirt off and tossed it haphazardly to the side.
then Alpha was over by his bedside, placing a hand on the lump which turned over at the touch revealing Waters half covered face and oh, was he pouting.
the water ghoul extended his arms out and whined loudly.
"shhhh..im here now babyboy, its ok. i got you" Alpha reached down and pulled Waters sweater and scarf off, not without protest obviously. Water was left in his small shirt that hugged his chubby features, the shirt had rode up over his tummy and Alpha couldn't help but admire him. his beautiful curves. Water was getting impatient though and whined. Alpha hushed him again with a gentle kiss on the cheek as he set the clothes on the bed beside Water.
he immediately climbed in after, wiggling under the comforter and many blankets. Water wasted no time crawling onto the fire ghoul, squishing his face into his fluffy chest. as Alpha wrapped his hands around Water he turned their two bodies to the side, letting Water curl up beside him. he pressed himself flush against the strong fire ghoul who draped a leg over the smaller ghoul.
Alpha ignited the fire within him, turning into a personal heater. his skin was hot to the touch and his fur provided excellent insulation for the heat, keeping it trapped in a small area. the relief was instant for Water, it went straight to his icy bones, thawing him out from the inside. he stopped shivering in no time, nuzzling into Alpha as a scratchy purr started up in him. Alphas own deep timber of a purr rumbled in his chest. he moved his hand down to rest on Waters hips, lovingly squeezing his love handles there.
the vibrations from the purring began lulling Water to sleep, Alpha noticed this and had to get in something quickly: "hey, don't feel like you have to respond to this i just wanted to say im sorry i ignored you today. this is where winter is gonna start getting unbearable for you water ghouls and im going to make sure im here to help you get through it from now on."
there was a quiet sigh from Water, who mumbled, "thank you, Alpha...i love you.."
Alpha felt his heart swell and his eyes get teary, he needed to hear that. "i love you too, Waterfall. sleep well, my dear."
