Work Text:

Bu-Ling loved making their appearence fun.
And this included more than just physical appearence. They loved making their presence interesting, the idea of making people smile just by entering the room filled them with comftarable warmth and joy, they'd love for all the people in the world to have the same energy in their heart as they have. So they were energetic enough for the whole world! It is not everyday that you see a little kid who can ballance dishes while they are spinning on a gaint ball using only one leg!

Bu-Ling liked to acompany her spectacles with a bright look too. Bu-Ling found fashion fascinating, there were so many different ways for people to be unique! Not only that, but dressing up was fun too. She'd often try on different things to spice up her look, to change things up a bit! Out of forgetfullness she'd really easely drop them and do something new, but that was all part of the fun! So, she'd usually stick to her usual clothing - expecially if she had no time to dress up, she was a busy young lady!

Bu-Ling liked the idea of make-up too, it is just that it was such a daily chore that they'd easely forget about it, so it never became a routine. This made their skills a bit rusty, and out of all the fun little things they'd do to make themself shine, this one usually had negative feedback, and they'd understand if it was because of how untalented they were with their make-up art skills, but adults would tend to critisise them for 'trying to act grownup' or would make comments they thought they didn't hear about how their parents clearly do not care about them if they let them use make-up at such age. And if never was much make-up too, Bu-Ling knew that spending money on unnessesery things was not wise - expecially when you have a whole house to feed, so they had a very limited number of make-up suplies, mostly cheap ones too. Probably the reason it sometimes made their skin a bit itchy - another reason why they did not wear make-up as often as they maybe would want to try.
But that was okay, they had pleantly of time to learn the Art of Make-Up!

The monkey Mew also liked to decorate her hair. Usually she'd tie it in bunch of little braids, and have her bangs stick out, other times she'd try to make little bows out of said braids, but that often took a lot of effort, and as much as it was fun, it was often overstimulating and overwelming. She dyed her hair too! It is not as if she disliked her naturally dark hair, she loved the features she was born with - but she still thought she could make her character... brighter! And what other way to make it brighter than to colour her hair and make it shine like the sun! She also thought that blond suits her, the colour was striking and made her stand out in, what she thought, was a positive way. She only needed to do it once a month too, when she felt like it, so she did not have to try to make it a routine or do it every day, how cool was that!

Bu-Ling loves all colours of the rainbow, so, once they tried to dye their hair in all colours! They wanted to try having different coloured straks all around her hair. Unfourtunetly that did not go as planned - they did not want to go to a hairstylist, because for one: they were not sure how much it would have cost, and for two: they thought it would be more fun for them to dye it themself. In general they usually dyed it themself, because they surely won't spend more than ¥6500 when they can spend only ¥2700. And it backfired, dying your hair in all of these different colours was much harder than they anticipated. It came out messy, which at first was not a problem, but it seemed like they did not bleech their hair well enough, so the colours were not as bright as they wanted them to be, or came out looking weird. While they were still pretty happy with the outcome, Bu-Ling always tried to look at the bright sides of things, they came to a conclusion that it was safer and more practical for them to just bleech their hair like they usually did. It was cheaper, too.

The Aliens have been quiet for some time. Shirogane onii-chan and Akasaka onii-chan suspected it was because they were planning something large. But this meant that the Mews could at least pretend their lives were back to normal.
Huh, normal. Bu-Ling was not sure what to describe when she needed to reference that world. For as long as she knew, chaos was her normal, in all fun and not so fun ways. And she wasn't sure if their lives being now quiet and free of alien activity was a good thing or a bad thing. While she hated fighting, she believed that this was extremly important and was honored to play a heroine of Earth! Spending time with Tar-Tar was pleasing to, she kind of missed them.
Bu-Ling wonders how would she go back to 'normal' after all of this is over. If it is ever over, but Bu-Ling is optimistic, and she does not think, but she knows that they, the good guys (or - girls) will defeat the bad guys.
...But then what? Does that mean she won't have her powers anymore..? But she just got used to them, and, and, does that mean she won't be able to see Tar-Tar anymore?
Bu-Ling always tried to never think of situations like these, thinking about dark and empty stuff made her tummy twist in ways she did not like.

And so it was another regular Sunday - as regular as you can have it in the Huang household. Bu-Ling observed the bottle of hair dye before realising that it was mostly empty - which meant they needed a new one.
Downstairs, their five wonderful siblings, were being loud. But their sister knew they were just playing, and any mess made by them was never too much of a mess for them to clean up. They were good kids, and they tried to be as good of a sister.
Bu-Ling thought it was the best to go to the store today, so they ran downstairs to make a quick check if they need anything. Thankfully they did, now they did not have to go all the way to the market just to buy one hair dye.

"Huacha, Hongcha, Lucha, Qingcha, and Heicha!"

Called Bu-Ling as she was writting the shopping list. The house suddenly grew quiet, and then the sound of hushed little footsteps was heard, all at once, all five of Bu-Lings little siblings came running to her.

"We're going to the store, na no da!"

They cheerfully announced. Normally they went to store alone, but today was Sunday, so they had nowhere to drop the kids, even if it was such a quick and short jump to the shop. While they knew her siblings were good, they was constantly in fear that something might happend if they are alone. Besides, they can get them a treat too while they are here.
In a blink of an eye, all five of them yelled happily and ran to the hallway to put on their shoes.

"Okay, before we leave, we know the rules, na no da?"

Bu-Ling started as she was helping Qingcha tie his shoes.

"Stay always close to jiě-jiě, if you get lost, find a grown up with a kid or where there are many people, always ask jiě-jiě if you need something and listen to jiě-jiě!"

They announced in union, a proud grin graced Bu-Lings face.

"That's right, Bu-Ling is proud of all of you, na no da! Is everyone now ready, na no da?"

They praised as she finished tying Qingcha's shoes, standing up they picked the house's keys and the grocery list.

Bu-Ling always stood out, and she always knew it was because of her exceptional aura! She looked a lot different in school too, her peers would often have various opinions on the way she held herself, how she looked, et cetera. Bu-Ling loved the compliments and ignored the insults, for she was always a confident child. She was taught to love herself from a young age. Another thing she was taught is to keep her promises. And loving herself felt like a promise, among many she made, to her late mother. And that promise was of far more importance than whatever children at her school had to say. Still, she was never bullied, of course she was thankful to that. And she made effort to help those who were. Aside keeping promises and loving herself, she was taught kindness and hardwork. Judging someone because they look different or come from a different backgroud should never be something she'd defend, expecially when she wasn't Japanese herself.
Nevertheless, because of a lot of this, she had hard time relating to her peers in many ways other than one, and they had the same problem with her. Bu-Ling was never aware of how lucky she was not to think she's ugly, or that something was wrong with her, while still aknowledging she is different, because even the girls young as her would start caring about their appearences. Bu-Ling didn't understand it, but she didn't judge them either. Instead, Bu-Ling tried to the best of her ability to be the person who'd tell them that they're amazing just the way they are!
Despite different opinions about her, Bu-Ling rather easely got along with people - if they could handle her energy that is. But there were never hard feelings between children her age regardless.

Another thing that Bu-Ling noticed that made them different than her classmates, is how envious they seemed to be of them. This mostly regarded their choice of clothing, hair, mannerism, et cetera. No one really knew the situation at Bu-Lings home except their teacher, and later The Mews.
A memory they recall is when she first wore make-up to school. They were not aware that it was againts the dress code, they just wanted to do something fun! In general, Bu-Ling always struggled with the dresscode, or any rules regarding appearence. Thankfully, no one noticed that day, except her classmates, who were vivid at the idea.
'Bu-Ling-chan you are so lucky! Your parents must be so cool if they let you wear make-up to school!"
'My mom would never, she says make-up is for grownups...'
'You are so brave! What if a teacher catches you?'
And so on and so forth. And to all that Bu-Ling was more than happy to bring the very little make-up they had to school and give it to their classmates. Unfourtunetly a teacher caught them when they tried to execute their plan.

Similair reactions were when Bu-Ling first started bleeching her hair, at which point Bu-Ling was well known for being wild, energetic and unpredictable. Bu-Ling did not recall it, but her classmates were envious of her. Her parents must be so chill to let her do everything she wants!
Bu-Ling never talked about her family or parents, as it was hard talking about her mothers death, which she'd avoid even thinking about, let alone talking about.
And yet, she in a way agreed with her classmates. That is, she loved the freedom she seemed to have, after getting to know other kids, she came to realise how mean and closed minded grownups can be. To her, everyone had the right to be unique! Bu-Ling also believed that the freedom she had came with the responsability of taking care of her siblings and much of families finances. But it wasn't a transactional thing in her eyes. Bu-Ling never thought that her responsability was a price for her 'freedom'. Because she knew that her parents would let her be free even without responsability.
Besides, Huang Bu-Ling never believed that her chores were a burden, but an honor.

Bu-Ling was sat in the bathroom with a fresh opened hair dye on their left side, while they sat on the bath tub, carefully painting over the dark roots.
Bu-Ling never was able to sit still for a large period of time, so they caught themself standing up and waltzing around the bathroom as they re-did their roots. By now they have dyed their hair so many times that it was now much easier than when they first did it. In the many thoughts that filled Bu-Lings head, one of them was to maybeeee try again with the rainbow hair. But perhaps not.

"Jiě-jiě! I'm hungry!"

Hongcha shouted from downstairs, and as if the others have waited for someone to say it, they joined in the shouting too.

"Coming!"

Replied Bu-Ling, with alumminium wraps on her head and a smile on her face. The sight has made the five kids giggle furiously, as if this is the first time they have seen her this way.

"Jiě-jiě has wrap on her head!"

Giggled Luncha while randomly hugging Bu-Ling. It was a common occuranse for their siblings to just randomly trow themselves at her. The rest of their siblings joined in the giggling fit as they tried to pull Bu-Ling down to their level. And when they did so, all wrapped themselves around her.
Bu-Ling was confused where all of this was coming from, but asked no questions.

"What do you want to eat, na no da?"
