Chapter Text
Enid was angry.
Enid was upset.
Enid was heartbroken.
Enid was packing without even giving a single thought to what was being placed into the dark leather suitcase.
Throwing random pieces of clothing in, some of which she was sure weren’t hers, but Wednesday’s. Wednesday.
She couldn’t get the small goth girl out of her head. As if she ever would. No. Wednesday was implanted in her mind for eternity now. Which made this whole thing just that bit worse.
How could she?
Wednesday, the absolute love of her life since they were teens. Since she had saved the girl from certain death from The Hyde and hugged her tightly all those years ago. Enid had fallen for her then and there. And she had fallen hard. But so had Wednesday.
Or so she’d thought.
The glint of the ring on her finger caught her eye as the light from the sun shone through the bedroom window. Their bedroom. Where they’d lived in the Addams Family manor on and off for the last seven years, finally settling to full time when they’d both finished college and decided that, until they knew their next steps, the manor would be the best place to plan their combined future.
These thoughts cause Enid’s breath to hitch slightly. How could she have been so stupid.
She grabs the offending piece of jewellery and rips it from her finger, slamming it on the bedside locker on her side of the bed. The piece was a perfect combination of the two of them; rose gold band clasping a big, black gemstone with two smaller pink stones either side. Designed by Wednesday herself and given to Enid four months back in an intricate proposal that was only good enough for an Addams. Or an Enid. Because she was an Addams. Or was to be an Addams.
Until recently, Enid had believed this. Believed that she was good enough to be an Addams. To be the wife of the one and only Wednesday Addams.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
Her mother had always told her this. And for so long she’d believed it. And then Wednesday came along and had convinced Enid she was so much more than anything her mother had told her. So much more than anything anyone thought of her. That she was exceptional. Extraordinary. Worthy.
Which made this hurt so much worse than anything she’d gone through before.
It’s started roughly 2 weeks ago. She’d gotten an odd scent. Different from the usual smells around the manor. She was used to the unique scents of the different Addams’. Pugsley’s gunpowder scent mixed with that of camomile. Gomez had a smokey scent. Even Thing smelled so familiar to her now. Morticia’s rose and cedar wood scent was a particularly calming one for Enid when she was upset.
Gosh, how she could use that right now.
Wednesday’s scent was the most relaxing to her however. Usually. Until about two weeks ago when it had changed.
Maybe changed wasn’t the correct word. Her usual scent was still present. The familiar scent of paper and ink, interlaced with the glorious smell of the forest after a heavy rainfall.
It was all there. But something else had made it’s presence know. And Enid didn’t like it one bit.
It was very easy to pinpoint that the new scent was coming from Wednesday. Especially when they were curled up in bed, entwined in each other every night. Enid would bury herself in the scent of Wednesday as the smaller girl laid her head on her chest. And that hadn’t changed even since last night. They’d slept like they always had. But that scent had kept Enid awake the majority of the night. Infiltrating her nostrils and embedding in her mind.
And the worst part; she didn’t hate the smell itself. It was too faint for her to identify exactly what it was. Like it was the beginning of a scent. Or one that had been washed away, so only her werewolf senses could pick it up. It wasn’t a bad smell by any means.
But it was different. And that only meant one thing.
Wednesday was seeing someone else.
The thought made Enid stall her packing and cover her mouth as she sobbed.
The betrayal she felt in that moment, in thinking that one thought, broke her resolve completely. Shaking hands moved to pick up a pale pink t-shirt from the bed and she threw it on top of the rest of the clothes before she heard the bedroom door open.
She knew who it was without turning. That damn smell hit her nose and she knew Wednesday had entered their shared space. Soon to be just hers and whoever she was seeing behind Enid’s back.
“Enid, there you are. Pugsley asked us if we wanted to-“ Wednesday sentence died in her throat after she’d turned from closing the bedroom door and saw what was happening.
“What are you doing?” Although she saw it, she still had to ask what was going on. Had they planned a trip she’d forgotten about? Hardly, out of the two of them, Wednesday was the one who kept track of vacations and other plans. Enid having to check their shared calendar weekly to ensure she knew what was happening at any given time.
Enid continued packing, as if she hadn’t heard her come in and speak. But she knew she had, Enid’s werewolf hearing was exceptional. Everything about the wolf in front of her was exceptional. Except her horrendous packing ability if the current situation was anything to go by.
Wednesday advanced further into the room and stood behind her wolf, too proud to repeat herself and waiting expectantly for Enid to acknowledge her. It took a minute before Enid could find her voice to answer the smaller girl.
“I’m packing” was all she said as she continued throwing clothing into the suitcase haphazardly.
“I can see that” Wednesday replied before reaching around the blonde and placing a firm hand on her left arm to stop her movements.
“I meant, why are you packing?” She questioned before softly turning the wolf to look at her. In doing so, she noticed the distinct lack of ring on her finger. “Your ring, where is it?” Her brows furrowed as she looked from the naked finger to the blue eyes tinged red around the rims from crying.
Wednesdays face stared at her with only concern, and in that moment Enid couldn’t help but feel her wolffish anger bubble to the surface.
“It’s there” she nodded her head to the nightstand and ripped her arm from the goth’s grip before continuing, “you can give it to whoever you’ve been seeing behind my back. No use in having it go to waste.” She turned back to the overflowing case and decided that whatever she’d packed would be enough for now. She’d send for the rest of her things at a later time.
In turning, Enid missed the uncharacteristic facial expression of confusion plastered over the young Addams’ face.
She was at a complete loss. Wednesday spent nearly all of her time with Enid, bar her writing time and the occasional mani session Enid had dragged her whole family to participating in over the years. She made herself busy with weapon training or helping Grandmama commune with the dead. Excursions she deemed far more worthy of her time than having her nails done. Plus Enid did them for her in the comfort of their room regardless. Her nails always look immaculate.
It took her nearly a full minute to find her voice, that was how unbelievable the statement she’d just heard was. “Enid, what in Satans name are you talking about?” She questioned and went to place her hand back onto the blondes arm, until Enid drew away violently.
“Don’t touch me!” She growled, taking two steps back and facing the smaller woman. “And don’t pretend like you don’t know what I’m talking about Wednesday! Don’t treat me like an idiot!” Her voice was raised in anger, Wednesday was not stupid enough to move closer in this instance.
So she stayed where she was and folded her arms across her chest, the long sleeves of her black and white striped jumper tucked under each arm. She inhaled and exhaled slowly to avoid matching the wolfs tone. She needed a level head to get to the bottom of whatever was happening right now.
“Enid,” she stated calmly as she met the near feral gaze of her love standing not two feet away. “I can promise you, I have no idea what you’re referring to. Please just explain to me where this inane idea has come from.” It was the best she could do given the situation. Enid was beyond upset, and beside being very confused as to what was going on, Wednesday was also worried for her wolf. So she wasn’t thinking in her usual collected manner. Enid did that to her.
It was, however, not her best work and caused the wolf to explode in anger.
“Inane?! Don’t fucking patronise me Wednesday! You think I can’t smell someone else on you?!” She screamed, and Wednesday nearly flinched at how upset Enid was. Nearly. She was still Wednesday after all.
“I just wish you’d have the decency to sleep somewhere else the last two weeks instead of with me. The smell has kept me up every night since you started seeing… whoever the fuck you’re seeing?” Enid placed her hands over her nose to try and stop her crying, tears flowing down her cheeks. She took a few shaky breaths in and out before moving her hands through her hair in exasperation.
Wednesday looked over her. She did look tired. Exhausted even. Maybe that was the reason for this random outburst? She’d been in this relationship long enough to learn that calling Enid out on this was not a smart move. So she focused on the other part of statement.
“Smell?” She questioned quietly, partly to herself but she knew Enid heard. And she couldn’t help as her face fell further into confusion. “What smell?”
“Oh? You want me to describe it to you? Are you not getting your fill whenever you off together doing fuck knows what? Real mature Wednesday!”
The truth was Wednesday was hoping for a description of some sort. Not for the sick pleasure Enid was thinking, but so she could figure out what exactly was going on. She was slightly lost in her own thoughts she almost missed Enid’s next statement. Almost.
“I can’t believe you’d do this. And for what? Two weeks of fucking some random person means so much more to you than everything we’ve been through? You’re my mate Wednesday! And I thought I was the same to you but I guess not! So I’m noping out of this befo-“
“Two weeks?” Wednesday interrupted her rant, not the best thing to do right now she knew, but she now had a feeling she understood what was happening. And by god did she need to clear this up. And fast judging by Enid’s current state.
Speaking of her current state, Enid growled at being interrupted with, in her opinion, a pretty dumb question. “Yes.” She seethed as she ground her teeth in anger. “Two fucking weeks versus seven years, Wednesday. And I can’t stand it any longer. So I’m leaving.” She moved back to the side of the bed and resumed closing the case that lay on top.
“I’ll be at Yoko’s so I’ll send for my-“ Wednesday cut her off once again, but this time without words and instead placed both her hands onto the werewolf’s neck and forced her around to face her. Enid’s nostrils flared and her canines were exposed as she glared at the goth for touching her.
But Wednesday wasn’t deterred, she needed Enid to calm down and listen to her so she could salvage this without minimal fallout. She placed her thumbs on the taller girls cheeks and rubbed softly, a feeble attempt to wipe away the free flowing tears falling down her face.
Enid struggled half heartedly, for as much as she hated the girl in front of her right now, she would always love how gentle Wednesday was with her. Only with her. At least she hoped it was only for her.
A beat passed between them until Wednesday was sure she had Enid’s undivided attention.
“Enid, mi amor, please listen” she pleaded, her dark eyes staring into ocean blue and imploring the taller girl to believe her. “I know you’re upset, and I am so very sorry you’ve thought this for so long. But please understand whatever you think is happening, it’s not.”
She waited until she knew Enid would move away from her grip before she continued. Taking a deep breath to prepare herself, she closed her eyes for a moment before moving closer and placing her forehead against the wolf’s. Her lips brushed the other woman’s as she whispered the next sentence, and prayed to Lucifer that Enid would listen.
“Mi loba favorita, I must tell you something”
