Soap

  • You and soap hadn’t been dating long - maybe three months?
  • Most dates had been getting food or hiking at your request, the excuse always being the house wasn’t clean but this time he insisted a night in since a storm was coming
  • He’d picked up takeout, not wanting you to worry more about the mess you’d always talked about
  • When he knocked on the door, he heard an ungodly growl from behind the door followed by a string of curses and you shouting for him to come in
  • Soap nearly dropped the food and shit himself when he stepped through the doorway: in your hand was a thick leather collar, and wearing that collar was a massive Estrela mountain dog baring it’s teeth and growling
  • “Steamin’ Jesus, lass! When were you gonna tell me you had a fuckin’ monster in yer house?” He exclaimed, hesitantly taking his shoes off
  • “Johnny it’s fine, I promise he’s only protective. Living alone gets scary sometimes. Give him a treat, he’ll warm up to you.” you offered praying your guard dog wouldn’t bite his face off
  • Soap pulled out a piece of chicken from one of the takeout containers and kneeled slowly in front of the dog, letting it sniff is hand slowly.
  • Sure enough, the dog’s curled lip relaxed as it took the peace offering from his palm
  • “See? Not so bad isn’t he, buddy?” You said scratching the dog’s ears.
  • “Aye, I’d like to keep my face if that’s alright with you, big man.” Soap chuckled as he joined in on the head scratches. “I’m just glad you’ve got protection when I’m not here, sweethear’.”

Ghost

  • It was Simon’s idea to get you a guard dog in the first place. You insisted you were fine but being a civilian Simon always expected the worse. You were the light in his life and he’d do anything to keep you from being snuffed out
  • When it came to you, he only wanted the best. That’s why he found you an ex-military German shepherd and trained it himself, ensuring it only obeyed you or him.
  • When Simon came to your apartment with the massive beast, you hadn’t been expecting a dog that big.
  • “Si, is this really necessary? I’m perfectly capable–“
  • “Jus’ looking out for you, love.” He said, bringing the dog over to the couch where you sat. There was a touch of sadness in his eyes, “Wanna protect you the best I can.”
  • “Simon,” you murmured, a hand on his shoulder, “I appreciate it.. I know you just want to take care of me.”
  • He nodded, “Yeah, that’s right. And this guy here is gonna do that for me when I’m not around. Can’t be losing you, can I?”
  • You knew what he was saying: he would never forgive himself if something happened to you while he wasn’t there.
  • “No, you can’t.” you smiled, giving him a peck on the cheek.
  • And it was as if that dog was Simon in animal form. It protected you like Simon did: tooth and nail, blood and everything it had.

Price

  • Price knew about your guardian: a giant malinois that sounded like a hellhound. But he wasn’t afraid of the dog.
  • That’s exactly how he ended up flat on his ass when he showed up unannounced, the dog snarling in his face.
  • “Easy boy, it’s me, your friend!” He attempted to de-escalate, you shouting the dogs name over the growling
  • “John! The hat! Take of the damn hat!” You yelled, hands now trying to grab the dog’s collar to pull him off.
  • Of course, it was the hat. This has happened the first time John had come over. Your usual tricks to calm the hound weren’t working: treats, scratches, nothing. When Price had accidentally knocked his hat off, it was almost like a whole new dog
  • Your fearsome protector melted into a puppy in John’s arms.
  • John quickly tossed the hat to the side, holding his hands up, “See, boy? Just me, it’s just me.”
  • The dog sniffed his hands, and after a tense moment immediately started licking his face.
  • “Fucking shit..” you sighed in relief, falling to your knees next to Price, “He’s gonna really hurt you one day.”
  • “Oh he’ll break something no doubt. As long as he’s making sure you’re safe, hun, I’ll put up with whatever he’s throws at me.”

Alejandro

  • Alejandro had gotten you a Dogo Argentino on your first anniversary; you’d been raving about wanting one for months. It took to you like your were it’s mother - so much so that Rudy had joked it served as your first child as a couple
  • It was far from reality though
  • Alejandro found that it would not leave your side, even wedging itself between you two in the bed or on the couch.
  • If he tried to reach for you, it would growl
  • “I see it’s got your temper.” He’d teased you, earning a slap on the shoulder.
  • One night, he’d come home late from base without a heads up. As he walked through the dark apartment, quiet so not to wake you, he began getting ready for bed.
  • When he got to the bedroom, he paled when he heard a low growl but was unable to see the source
  • Flicking on the lamp on the dresser, he exclaims, “Santa mierda!”
  • You’re sound asleep and the dog is standing right over your body, teeth bared and growling
  • Thankfully the growling woke you up, and you noticed the pickle Alejandro was in
  • “Hey, hey!” You grabbed the dog, soothing it, “Es papá, ¿eh?”
  • The dog seemed to slowly recognize him and wagged it’s tail, sniffing the air. Crisis avoided.
  • Alejandro couldn’t help but chuckle, “I like it when you call me that, mi querida. But I have a feeling someone gets jealous easily.” He said looking at the dog pointedly
  • “Alé, I already know you get jealous, you don’t have to tell me twice.”
  • And so you resumed your usual sleeping habits: you and Alejandro, doing your best to hold each other with a dog burrowing it’s way between you two

König

  • König knew you had a guard dog. That had been one of the first things you’d told him about when you met. A Tibetan mastiff you had named something cute, as if you though the name would offset the sheer terror it’s presence provided
  • Your dog was such a huge part of you life that you wanted König to meet her not long after you two started dating
  • “Ah, Engel, I do not think she will like me,” König rubbed the back of his head, having abandoned his mask at your request, “She may find me.. how you say, einschüchternd?”
  • “Honey, it’ll be fine, that’s why I asked you to leave your mask in the car.” You assured him, unlocking the front door to your home.
  • König waited in the living room, his comedic size contrasting with your couch. He twirled his thumbs, nervous as you had gone to fetch your dog from the back porch
  • König wasn’t scared of much anything, but when the dog stepped in with a low growl, he thought he was staring at a creature from hell
  • “Easy girl, he won’t hurt you or me.” You murmured to her, slowly walking her over to the couch. “Hold your palm out to her, let her smell you.”
  • König nodded and did as you asked, the mastiff gingerly sniffing his fingers. After some hesitation, König nearly melted as she nuzzled his palm and licked his hand
  • “Holy shit!” you breathed, a grin spreading across your face
  • “Huh? Did I do something wrong?” König tried to hide his concern from the dog now sitting between his legs, eyes begging for affection
  • “Not at all! This is just the quickest she’s warmed up to someone..” you smiled, sitting next to him. “Maybe she knows you’re like my human guard dog.” You pecked his cheek lightly
  • A deep blush spread across König’s nose and cheeks but he smiled nonetheless.

Gaz

  • Gaz had first met you when your Rottweiler had cornered him near the tarmac on base. He had just been picking up some bags - not knowing they were yours - when a behemoth of a dog had run up
  • You followed behind, shouting for the dog to heel; it immediately obeyed.
  • “I am so sorry about that! He’s all bark, I promise!” you apologized profusely.
  • “Ah, no worries, I must’ve mixed our bags up!” Gaz also apologized, offering a hand to shake, “Kyle, a pleasure to meet you.”
  • “Pleasure’s all mine.” you smiled, some warmth on your face, the Rottweiler grumbling at the contact.
  • You and Gaz hit it off, but your guard dog was another story. After months of dating, your dog still hadn’t warmed up to him.
  • One stormy night Gaz came over to stay with you. As the two of you stayed curled up on the couch, the Rottweiler eyeing him from the armchair, a boom of thunder sounded
  • “Shit..” you sighed, the dog bolting in the direction of the bedroom.
  • “Holy shit - is he scared of thunder?” Gaz asked incredulously as you made you way to the kitchen.
  • “Surprisingly yes.. all bark, remember?” you said, looking for the anxiety pills prescribed for the dog when thunder became too loud. “Will you go find him? He’s probably under the bed.”
  • Gaz did so with bated breath wishing he’d worn his gear to protect him from the dog’s teeth
  • In the bedroom, your dog was curled up and shaking under the bed. Gaz kneeled down, a small treat in hand.
  • “Hey buddy.. it’s ok, your momma wanted me to bring this to you.” he held the treat out.
  • Gaz had never expected this massive dog to whine so pathetically and shake, but he watched as it slowly nibbled on the biscuit. Finishing the treat, the dog slowly made its way out from under the bed and onto Gaz’s lap.
  • “Poor thing.. I gotcha.” he said, stroking the dogs back softly.
  • You arrived in the bedroom with the medication and felt your heart flutter, “Well look at that..” you smirked.
  • “I know, poor baby.” Gaz scratched between his ears, “But everything’s better now that you’re here, huh?”
  • The dog seemed to perk up at your presence. After giving the dog the medicine, the three of you sat on the bed with both you and Gaz petting him.
  • “Not much of a big scary guy now, is he?” you giggled. Gaz couldn’t help but chuckle too.
  • “We’re all afraid of something, love.”
