Chapter Text
|Chapter one| an intro of sorts|
Champion walks down the hall doing their best to keep quiet as to not bother anyone, their efforts were fruitless as the gold tip of their shoes made it near impossible to stay quiet for long. Even if the place is awake and about They didn’t want to disrupt the flow of big mama’s business, she had called Champion to her for some kind of assistance. They just hoped it wasn’t because they had screwed up again, last time it had nearly broken their arm.
As Champion rounded a bend, their metal tipped shoes noisily tip tapping on the cold stone floor of another of the many halls leading to the arena, several yokai that had yet to fight or already won their battles, began to stare and back out of Champion’s path to the stairs on the back wall. Many of them had lost loved ones due to being set to fight Champion. Who had been the leading champion for some time now, resulting in Big Mama’s little pet name catching so fast. In truth Champion had known no other name.
Champion walked on toward the stairs pasted the stares and looks of disgust, just hoping that none of them saw their face behind the mask that Big Mama requested them to wear at all times. Champion may have walked purposefully with an air of confidence and power, but they were but a child expected not to be what they in nature truly were.
One yokai in particular had not moved when Champion strode forwards, a burly dog like brick who stood straight up looking down upon everyone including Big Mama’s current favorite toy, causing the stares of fear and complacency into stares of confusion and anticipation for what may happen.
Champion stopped as they came up to the yokai’s feet, almost touching the points of their shoes to the steel boots the large dog wore.
“I ain’t moving for a spoiled brat, why ya wearing gold on ya shoes like they ment ta stay clean anyways?” Said the yokai looking down on Champion. The dog didn’t wait for Champion to respond before replying to himself “bet ya not even that big o’ a deal, everyone knows a little shit your size can’t possibly pack much of a punch!” He spat bending down to eye level, or what he believed to be eye level with Champion as they wore a white and red mask all the time.
Champion swiftly turned and walked around the brutish yokai refusing to move, only to be stoped by that very yokai to sidestep back into their way again.
“Don’t go thinkin imma just let ya walk away brat, show me why ya Big Mama’s favorite.” The dog suggested snarkily, maybe if he picked on the brat enough they just might walk away tail between their legs, not that he could see it but his thoughts had drifted to a more metaphorical nature with the general theme being dominance over everyone.
Champion didn’t like the dog but frankly they felt they had to deal with them somehow, so they did as he requested and showed him why Champion was Big Mama’s favorite. This yokai seemed strong enough to beat a few of the weaker fighters that Champion often fought in the arena, making it decently likely that Champion would have fought him anyways. So with as discreet as a move they could make Champion’s pointed metal tipped shoe met the space between the dog’s legs causing a puddle of blood to seep out from the dogs pants and onto the floor. As he knelt down on his knees, having the wind knocked out of him all the sound he made was the shuffling of his movements and the odd grin of pain.
Champion stood in their tense pose as one of the other fighters ran over and cleaned the bloody gold shoe with their own towel smiling a fake polite smile, beads of sweat sliding down their skin. Once they were done Champion moved on towards the stairs mentally apologizing and crying invisible tears, for if Big Mama ever saw them show any kind of sympathy she would have used it to hurt Champion if they made another mistake.
Champion’s metallic steps up the stairs could be heard from the top, clearing the vicinity of fearful servants and workers who knew that sound well enough to know who that sound belonged to. Champion walked down yet another hall and turned right onto the viewing balcony. Stepping through the doorway, careful not to let the gold tips of their shoes tap on the brick stone floor of the viewing balcony too loudly as they strode to stand just behind Big Mama, who unknown to Champion was expecting guests.
