A Hug to Help You Feel Better Again

Notes:

Most of the works in my legal pride series are standalones, but this one can be read as a sequel to my other fic, "Paper Airplanes to Fly Your Sadness Away." If you want to read that one first, it's an earlier entry in the series. This work can be read by itself though.

Work Text:

   Simon couldn't sleep.

This was a regular occurrence, of course. Often times he couldn't fall asleep, or he had nightmares when he did. But tonight, it wasn't nightmares plaguing him. It was a craving.

About two weeks ago, Simon had turned twenty-eight. On that day, one overly loud, high energy detective came to see him. It wasn't until the end of his visit that the problems began.

Bobby had pulled Simon into a big bear hug before leaving. Simon pulled away, of course, but even those few seconds of contact were enough to drive Simon crazy.

Growing up, Simon's parents weren't around much, and Aura wasn't the most affectionate sister. When he went to prison, things only got worse. The only human contact he got was when the guards put handcuffs on him. So he was more than a little touch-starved. So when Bobby had hugged him so affectionately, so warmly, it was all he could think about afterwards.

And so here he was. Unable to fall asleep, thinking about that hug. He wanted another one so badly. He wished Bobby was there with him to cuddle with him. But at the same time, he knew that even if Bobby was there, he still wouldn't be able to ask.

Simon always had trouble voicing what he wanted. He'd be quiet at best, but most times he would say the opposite of what he was really thinking. He always acted like such a jerk to people. Not just people he didn't care about, but people he genuinely liked like Bobby and Athena.

So asking for a hug was completely out of the question. The poor prosecutor didn't know what to do.

The next day, things only got worse. Simon had to go through an entire investigation with Bobby, usually something he enjoyed, not just because he got to be out of his cell, but because he secretly enjoyed the detective's company. Today however, it was nerve-wracking.

Simon wasn't used to having physical cravings this strong. He hadn't really experienced sexual lust before, and after a while in jail he had learned how to ignore hunger. This feeling was a lot harder to ignore.

At the end of the day, Bobby took him back to his cell, as per usual. But before he left, he had a question.

"Hey, Prosecutor Blackquill? Are you feeling okay? You were acting kinda strange today." Goodness, was he really that obvious? He was usually a way better liar. Not only that, but Bobby was terrible at reading people.

"I'm fine Fool Bright. Go worry about something else," he answered. He didn't mask his emotions well enough though.

"I can tell you aren't. Your face is flushed, Simon. Do you have a fever?" Bobby switched to using his first name to seem more friendly.

Simon felt his face heat up more as Bobby laid a hand to his forehead. "You're a normal temperature. Why are you blushing then?" He had a right to ask. Simon didn't blush easily.

"There's nothing wrong with me. Just go home. It's the end of the day anyways. You should be headed home now unless you want to drive back in the dark," Simon was frantically trying to think of reasons to get Bobby to leave.

And then it became unbearable. Bobby put an arm around Simon to try and comfort him, unknowingly amplifying his internal crisis ten times over. "I'll go home soon enough. I just want to make sure you're ok."

Poor Simon couldn't take it anymore. Bobby was so warm. Simon had gotten smaller during his years in prison, but Bobby was tall and muscular if not a little chubby. The perfect size for someone like Simon. He just wanted a hug. He just wanted someone. Someone who would comfort him. Someone who would be there.

Simon gave into his urges. It was too much for him to handle. He wrapped his arms around Bobby and laid his arms on the detective's chest. Bobby was surprised, but he didn't seem to mind. He pulled Simon in closer.

"Simon, if you want a hug, you can just ask. I don't mind one bit."

That was all Simon had ever wanted to hear.
