Suga put back his toothbrush in the glass after he brushed his teeth. Inside the glass was Daichi’s toothbrush.
Suga wore his headband to keep his hair away as he washed his face. He dried off his face with a towel Daichi had prepared before. Suga continued his skincare routine. He gently tapped his face with cotton as he applied his skincare that specifically treats dry skin. When winter came, his skin was more sensitive and dry. He already had dry skin in the first place so winter was an absolute nightmare for him. The first time they lived together, Daichi was shocked to find him all red and scaly on several spots on his face. One day, Daichi found him peeling off his skin (because he felt that itchy feeling to just pull it), and since then Daichi had been pestering him to take extra care, especially in winter to keep his skin healthy. When his moisturizer was almost empty, Daichi would already buy him a new one so he never run out even a day.
Once he finished, Suga went to their room and found Daichi probably half asleep under the blanket. He turned off the light before he climbed up to their bed and proceed to hug Daichi from behind. Daichi took this moment to reach for Suga’s hand and intertwined their fingers, putting their hand on top of his heart. Suga could feel Daichi’s steady heartbeat on his palm, the heat from Daichi’s body and the blanket kept them warm, along with the sound of Daichi’s slow breath Sugawara's consciousness drifted away.
“So, what did you do today at school?”
“Hm?” Koushi asked, not catching what Daichi was saying.
“Something interesting happened at school?”
Sugawara tried to remember in his sleepy state. He opened his eyes. Their room was dark. The only light came from their lamp table and humidifier. He could feel Daichi’s thumb stroke his index fingers.
“Um… Oh yeah, you remember Yuriko-chan from class 1-B? The one with the pink light shoes? She said she won’t eat broccoli because she’ll kill the trees.”
There was no response from Daichi. But his finger kept stroking Suga’s index finger. He could hear their AC running, the gurgling water from the humidifier, and faint nocturnal birds chirping around.
“Why..?”
“Because broccoli is the tree's baby.”
Suga could hear Daichi’s soft laughter filling the air. His laughter felt warm just like a bonfire that was lit on a cold night. It enveloped every part of Sugawara. From where his hand was placed, he could feel a rumble coming from his husband’s heart. His whole body shook from his laughter.
Although there was no space left between them, Sugawara tried to get closer to Daichi. He hugged Daichi tightly and Daichi did the same. He held Suga’s finger tightly as his life depend on it.
Soon, silence filled the room. The AC and all the night creatures' sounds came back filling the room. He could hear Daichi’s faint breath. His hand was rising up and down, up and down with each breath he took.
“Daichi.”
“Yeah?”
“Can I be the small spoon?”
He could feel his husband moved. In seconds, Suga’s back was now felt warm from Daichi hugging him. He felt his soft breath on his nape, scenting him.
It was one of Daichi's habits that he could never understand. Once he tried to ask his husband about it.
“I did that? Well.. I don’t know.. From what I recall, it kinda calms me down, so..”
Sugawara took notice and from there he would always find Daichi scenting him on his nape whenever he was having a rough time. So Suga let him. Now it turned into a habit he would do before they went to sleep. Though lately, it kind of turned into a problem because Daichi would have a hard time falling asleep when he has to travel away for work. There were times when he was stressed after the meetings so he excused himself to go home early just because he could be with Suga and sleep next to him. It was 11 P.M. when he called a taxi and by the time he arrived at their apartment, it was already 02.30 A.M.
“Daichi.”
“Yes?”
“Sing me to sleep?”
Daichi kissed his cheek and started to sing. The last thing Sugawara could feel were kisses on his head as his consciousness faded away.
