Work Text:
“You are worried again...why are you worried, babe?” Vee looked over at Dome, clearly baffled. He hadn’t actively done anything – or so he thought, at least – that could show Dome that his mind was running a thousand miles an hour again.
“How did you –”, he started, only to be interrupted by Dome caressing the spot between his eyebrows, surely trying to smooth away the worry line. “I could feel you tense up when Pan came back. Also, I can practically hear you thinking,” Dome answered, shifting slightly and turning Vee around so that their eyes could meet. “You know she’s okay with this; with us. She has told you many times. And you know she wouldn’t lie about her feelings. It’s okay, Vee, really. You don’t have to worry so much all the time.”
Vee didn’t answer for a moment, thinking, or more like worrying, about what to answer. He knew that their hardships were in the past, rationally, but he loved Pan and he didn’t want to hurt her. He also didn’t want to weird her out, and he just couldn’t imagine that it wouldn’t be at least a tiny bit strange to find your brother and your ex cuddled up in your brother’s bed, lights a little dimmed and soft music playing in the background while Vee studied. A study date, you could say, only that Dome didn’t have anything to study for and opted instead for reading a book, being the moral support you need, as he had claimed in front of Vee. They both knew that he was just a little clingy and liked spending time with Vee even though he didn’t really have time to talk or do anything – it being exam season and all – but Vee couldn’t say that he minded. Not at all.
So, even though Vee was aware that Pan had given them her green light, even encouraged Vee at some point, he couldn’t help but worry about hurting her, or at least weirding her out.
He just couldn’t imagine being completely fine with finding her and Dome like that if the roles were reversed. But then again, maybe Pan was just a better person than himself.
“I know I don’t need to worry, but I just– I can’t help it some days. It’s gonna take some time until I can wrap my head around her being fine, I guess. Sorry.”
Dome lifted up a hand to move a strand of hair out of Vee’s eyes, a soft expression and small smile adorning his features. To Vee’s surprise, he suddenly lifted himself off the bed, one hand grasping Vee’s to pull him up as well and in a swift motion, put one hand around Vee’s waist as the other one grabbed his phone from the bed to turn up the music a bit.
Vee found himself being gently pulled towards the middle of his room, too surprised to speak, and as Dome grabbed Vee’s hands to put them around his neck, Vee understood what was happening.
“Dancing?”, he asked, a little baffled. Dancing wasn’t something they usually did, in fact they never had before, so of course he was a little confused.
“Yes, dancing. How hard can it be? It’s basically just swaying from left to right, isn’t it?” Dome’s hands had found their place on Vee’s waist, pulling him a little closer than before. “I’m leading, see,” he said as he started moving slightly from left to right, “you barely have to do anything.”
And he was right, it wasn’t witchcraft and on top of it, it was just them. Who cared about whether what they were doing was right or not?
“Stop worrying now, babe, it’s okay. I know you love Pan and you don’t want to hurt her again or make her uncomfortable. But you know she would tell you, she did it before and she would do it again. But it’s not going to happen, okay?”
“I just don’t want to miss her discomfort because I’m too busy being selfish and enjoying what I have with you. I don’t want to be that selfish person anymore that I was when this started, you know?”
“I promise you, you are not being selfish. The fact that you are still worrying even though Pan has given her okay multiple times already shows that. Besides, it’s alright and even good to think of yourself, too, sometimes. It doesn’t make you a bad person.” In the background the song had changed and with it, they moved a little bit slower now. Dome lifted his right hand from Vee’s waist and lightly caressed his cheek before it found its home around Vee’s lower body again.
“You know that Pan knows that you respect whatever she says about this situation. But she won’t suddenly change her mind, that’s not like her and we both know it. It’s all going to be okay. Pan loves you and she has forgiven you, Vee. It’s okay now.”
“I know. Rationally, at least, I know. But I just can’t help thinking that it must be a little bit weird seeing us like this.”
“Vee, babe, we are in your room, it’s not like we are rubbing it in her face. But if you are really this worried, I can talk to her again, if you want. She won’t spare my feelings, if that’s what you’re worried about she’s doing with yours.”
“No no, it’s fine. I just think my subconscious needs a little more time to fully get used to everything.” He smiled at Dome in an attempt to reassure him, and earned a small smile from Dome in return.
They stayed like this for a few more beats before Dome pulled Vee even closer, their chests touching now. “Right person, right? You still think so, don’t you?” Vee noticed that Dome tried to sound aloof but couldn’t help but recognize the dash of worry etched into his voice.
“Of course I do, idiot. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t,” Vee replied, one of his thumbs caressing Dome’s neck to sooth him again. He proceeded to move just a bit closer, placing his head on Dome’s shoulder now, making them basically hug.
In Dome’s arms, he felt safe, protected. It was his favorite place, where he could calm down and forget everything that was happening around him. His number one source of comfort.
Vee had never voiced that, but he had a feeling Dome knew it anyway with how often he did it when Vee had had a bad day, or was stressed. Just like he had done today when he had pulled Vee into his arms.
“For the record, I feel the same way.”
“Well, I sure hope you do. After all, you left this really nice girl for me, didn’t you?” “Well, of course I had to. How was I ever supposed to resist your genius flirting technique, huh?” Dome asked, a smile clearly detectable in his words. Vee playfully hit him in the shoulder, suddenly flustered from remembering his early advances, although he hadn’t meant them seriously at first.
“Shut up now, let’s concentrate on dancing,” Vee laughed. “Oh, so now you want to dance?”
“Don’t blame me, this is nice.” He felt Dome press a small kiss to the side of his head. “It really is.”
