Chapter Text
Yuji is the baby of his family and also the only omega. Both his grandpa and older brother, Sukuna, are alphas. So when Yuji starts nesting around the age of ten like most omegas, it causes some misunderstandings among the household.
Yuji just instinctually feels that he needs to build his nest to be a safe, comfortable space. It starts on a day where it’s his turn to do the laundry. All the scents of his pack members mix together and bring Yuji a sense of comfort. The scent remains strong even after he’s washed the clothes. He pulls the laundry out of the dryer and practically melts into the warm pile of clothing. He’s always loved the feeling of warm clean clothes, but with the addition of everyone’s scents he can’t help but melt into the pile.
Wasuke checks on Yuji when he doesn’t hear from him for a while. He finds the boy curled up in the laundry basket, fast asleep and purring. Wasuke sighs, all their clothes will smell like sweet omega, but maybe that will make the other kids less scared of Sukuna. Wasuke scoops Yuji up into his arms without waking the boy and placing him in his bed. He then finishes folding
the laundry.
Now Yuji insists on doing the laundry every time, Sukuna’s not complaining, and grandpa just reminds him to not fall asleep until after he’s done.
Yuji washes all the sheets and towels and after drying them he throws them on the floor and burrows in them.
“Yuji, come on, I have to put those sheets back on the beds!” Wasuke groans. “If you keep falling asleep while on laundry duty I’ll make Sukuna do it, and then he’ll probably ruin your favorite shirt.”
“Hey!” Sukuna snaps from down the hall where he can hear them.
At that, Yuji groans, but reluctantly removes himself from the pile of warm linens.
This time doing laundry, Yuji folds the linens and puts them in the closet, but instead of putting them on the shelves, he lines them on the floor of the closet. He’s small enough that he can curl up in there, and not be disrupted by anyone.
Now that he has a safe place for his nest, he can start collecting items to scent it.
He tries to be stealthy about it at first, sneaking into his grandpa's room and taking small pieces of clothing like socks, same with Sukuna. But it’s not enough so he starts adding shirts, sweaters, and sweatshirts. He takes the pillow cases off their beds. He even asks his alpha bestfriend, Megumi to give him a sweatshirt, which of course Megumi being the loving, doting alpha handed it over immediately. He also asks his omega friend Nobara to give him a shirt to balance out all the heavy alpha scents. Then of course he adds himself.
Wasuke grumbles one morning as he searches his closet for a specific shirt he wants to wear. He’s noticed some of his clothes have gone missing these past few weeks. He didn’t think much of it, until Sukuna also started complaining about not being able to find some of his clothes.
Wasuke sighs and storms to the laundry room. Yuji’s usually very good about returning all the clothes to their right owner, since it’s quite obvious who wears what. But maybe he left some in the laundry room and forgot to put them away.
The boys have already left for school, so Wasuke can loudly curse when he can not find the shirt in the laundry room. However he does notice a unique mix of scents coming from the linen closet. He recognizes his own, Yuji’s and Sukuna’s but then there’s the slight hint of another alpha, that one that Yuji always hangs around, and then another omega scent.
Wasuke opens the closet door to discover the pile of linens, and various articles of clothing that had been stolen from him. Wasuke thinks back to the multiple times Yuji had been dozing off in the laundry. The kid probably thought it would be a fun idea to make a little nap spot using the clean laundry. Wasuke sighs and deconstructs the little setup.
“I'm too damn old to be getting on the floor.” He grunts as he grabs all the clothes. He folds them all and returns Sukuna’s and his own clothes to their proper closets and he leaves the extra sweatshirt and shirt in Yuji’s room to return to his friends.
Yuji skips home from school today because he’s excited to crawl into his nest and do homework in his cozy spot. Megumi also gave him some extra pieces of clothing to add to his nest. Except when he gets home and opens the linen closet, it’s empty. Where his perfect, cozy, good smelling nest was this morning, is now just the empty linen closet.
Yuji’s heart sinks, his lips curl into a frown and his eyes flood with tears. Both tears of frustration that someone would destroy something so perfect and also of sadness for losing something he loved.
He frantically runs back into the kitchen where his grandpa is watching the tv.
“Grandpa! Did you clean out the closet?!” Yuji cries hysterically.
“Why are you crying kid?” Wasuke turns to look at his grandson. He’s always been a sensitive boy, but he’s never seen him this upset before.
“Why is the closet empty?” Yuji frowns deeper, clenching his little hands into fists.
“Because it was a mess. And why did you hoard all our clothes in there? I spent all morning looking for my shirt!” Wasuke exclaims.
“You destroyed my nest!” Yuji screams, shaking with anger.
Wasuke tries to pick the boy up to calm him down, but he thrashes out of his grasp and runs to his room, shutting himself inside.
Yuji flops down on the bed, ignoring Sukuna’s persistent demands for him to shut up. He eventually realizes Yuji is inconsolable and leaves the room, shutting the door behind him.
“He destroyed my nest.” Yuji pouts to himself as he piles Megumi’s clothes onto his bed and pulls Sukuna’s blankets over himself. His grandpa's scent is missing and it’s not nearly as comfortable as the nest, but it helps him to calm down.
Hours later, Yuji is still holed up in his room. Wasuke decides to go check on him. He feels bad, he didn’t realize that the mess of clothing was Yuji trying to build a nest. He also didn’t know how protective omegas are of their nests. But he also needs his clothes and the linen closet is for storage not for sleeping.
“Yuji, kid, I’m coming in.” Wasuke says, stepping in.
Yuji’s scent is sour, making his discontent evident. He’s turned away from the door, but he’s awake and still sniffling.
“Yuji, I’m sorry about your nest, I didn’t realize that’s what it was. To make it up to you, I’ll help you build a new nest.”
“I liked the old one.” Yuji pouts.
“Well the linen closet isn’t a good place for a nest, wouldn’t you prefer it to be in the living room? You can also make it bigger so more people can get in it.”
At that idea, Yuji turns around and immediately cheers up.
“Really? I can put it right in the living room?”
“Yeah whatever you want.”
“Can we go to the store and buy more blankets? We don’t have enough.”
“Of course, kid.” Wasuke chuckled and pats his grandson’s head.
So the next day, Wasuke takes Yuji to the store to buy whatever he wants for his nest. They get home and Yuji shifts the couch so there’s more space for his nest and he gets to work. He sorts through the fluffy blankets and pillows they bought and combined with the old ones. He instructs Grandpa and Sukuna to sit on the couch while he holds up blankets for them to scent. The two allow him to have one article of their clothing at a time, so he adds Grandpa’s fuzzy sweater and Sukuna’s soft t-shirt. He finishes it by tucking his friend’s clothes into the pile.
“So, how do you like it?” Grandpa asks once Yuji has crawled into it and cuddled up.
“I love it!” Yuji chirps and forces Sukuna to crawl in and cuddle with him. Yuji glances up at his grandpa and makes puppy dog eyes to beg him to also join the pack cuddle.
“Kid, I’m too old to get on the floor.”
Yuji frowns and his lip starts wobbling.
“Please don’t make him cry again.” Sukuna groans, just barely putting up with the way Yuji is nuzzling his face in his scent gland.
“Alright, but you two are helping me up later.” Grandpa sighs and lies down in the newly crafted nest.
Wasuke and Sukuna curl protectively around Yuji who had not stopped purring since they got in. The little omega feels safe with his pack to protect him and his perfect nest.
