Work Text:

You’ve always been one to tease.. most of the time. It was just something you picked up on, you know? Growing up around your mothers and Liz, it just grew on you. Though teasing wasn’t something that was always on the forefront of your mind, you had your moments. With most of your moments being directed at a little someone, said little someone just so happening to be your lover, Cove.

But not that either of you minded, it was all in good fun, plus he took part in it as well. Resulting in your face heating up and averting your gaze. It’s a mutual teasing, if you will.

Today was a peaceful day, warm at mid-noon, the sun was at its highest peak. Shining through your blinds as you lay sprawled out on your bed, panting like a dog. The heat was never something you enjoyed and your stuffy room wasn’t making it any better. You sighed rolling over onto your stomach, reaching for your phone resting on your nightstand. Turning it on, you saw a message from Cove. You smiled softly at his name, opening your phone you returned to your original position as you read the full message. He told you that he’d be home in a few minutes, which was sent 10 minutes prior. Hoisting yourself up off your bed you made the trek downstairs to wait for him outside.

Cove had been at an eye appointment with his father for majority of the afternoon, one that was long overdue as his glasses had started to fail him. You sat down on the front step. He needed a new prescription and boy, was he glad to get one. You thought back to earlier that day before he left, chuckling softly to yourself as he fumbled with some of his tasks. ‘My eyes are fine! It’s just that the prescription was.. Getting.. Foggy.’ He trailed off, fingers twiddling with whatever he fumbled with moments ago as his eyes glued themselves to the ground. His deffence was creative to say the least.

You were pulled out of your thoughts as you heard the sounds of a car pulling into the street. Craning your neck, you saw the car you hoped to see. You stood up as you watched the car into the Holden’s residence. You started your walk over just as Cove opened the door, picking up the pace as he stepped out of the passenger's seat. He had just barely stood up when you threw your arms around his neck. His –new and improved– glasses just barely hanging onto the bridge of his nose as he giggled, holding your waist with one hand while the other one coming up to fix his glasses. You grinned at the sight, as he narrowed his eyes at you through fixed lenses.
“What are you up to?” He asked cocking an eyebrow, his own grin present as he tilted his head. "Not even a hello?" You said as if you were offended, though it was genuine question, really. He let out a breathy laugh, "Just making sure you're not plotting to end the world." He smiled, laughing to himself. You gave him a flat look "uh huh, Love you too." he started to laugh. An idea popped into you head as his giggles died down. You got up on your tippy toes, intentionally slower than usual. Whatever smug Cove had in his body quickly melted into a mere puddle as his face grew pink. Though before your lips touched, and before he could actually kiss you. You let out a breath, directly onto his glasses, creating a fog.

Standing stunned for a solid second, Cove blinked as he tried to think of what to say, only muttering a small “Wh-” before you spoke, “Love is blind, Cove.” and with that you slipped out of his hold, leaving him speechless. Mr Holden -who was watching the whole interaction- started to laugh at the sight, fist hitting the roof of the car lightly. Cove’s mouth that was opening and closing like a fish out of water, though his confusion would be put to the side as his mouth curled into a smile. The fog on his glasses slowly started to fade.

His expression softened, watching as you walk further away through fogged lenses. His eyes crinkled at its corners as you started laughing to yourself. Cove hummed softly, shaking his head he took his glasses off, wiping the lenses with the ends of his shirt. Once his glasses were back to their former place he began to catch up with you.

If love is blind, then you both will be needing a pair of strong glasses.
