the invincible marine duo

Summary:

Gun-woo doesn't want to take Damin with them in case her grandfather dies in front of her. Woojin comforts him and reminds him that they will always be better together.

Notes:

i JUST (LITERALLY) finished the show, its 4am in the morning and i wrote this half asleep so BARE WITH ME. i loved this duo and this show so much?? like outside of shipping, its genuinely such a great show and i love it so much. i feel like theres not much room left for s2 so knowing this might be the last time we see them, i've decided to write all the times i screamed "KISS" at the screen whilst watching this. this fic is the first one (even tho technically its one of the last moments i've screamed kiss).

anyways im in the middle of studying for exams but i'll definitely try to come back and write more for them bc theres like only ONE other fanfic up right now its so embarrassing.

(ps i love dohwan, always have and i hope he gets even bigger this year. its definitely his year. i need him to take on more jobs next year too)

Gun-woo and Woojin looked on in horror as they listened to Kim Myeong-gil threaten to grind Mr. Oh into fish food and then target Gun-woo’s mother afterwards. Woojin felt sick to his stomach and he could see his friend turn pale as he dropped his phone on the table. Damin, who they both assumed was fast asleep, peered from the top of the bed bunk and made her presence known. Shit, she’s heard all of that? 

Gun-woo hurried to stand from the tiny table and tapped on Woojin’s arm in efforts to grab his attention and said, “come with me.”

Woojin gave Damin a quick glance before getting up to follow his friend out of the apartment. He closed the door gently behind them and faced Gun-woo, who looked closed to a breakdown. 

“Woojin… we can’t take her with us.” he stated firmly. “If anything happens to her grandfather in front of us… she’ll have a breakdown just like Hyeon-ju and I did– when I had almost lost you, and lost Mr. Choi. She’ll never recover, we can’t risk having her there.” His voice quivered. He tried to hold back his tears by biting down on his bottom lip but to no avail, they were already forming, stinging the back of his eyes. 

Woojin stepped closer and took the back of Gun-woo’s elbows in his palms. Comfortingly he rubbed the skin with his thumbs, in hopes of calming him down. “But Gun-woo, you seem to forget that there’s one thing different from now and then. You have me. We’re the invincible dynamic marine duo, right? We’re faster, stronger… a lot stronger, remember? 1,2,3,4,5! 1,2,3,4,5!” Gun-woo let out a soft chuckle that concealed a sniffle. 

“I won’t let anything happen to you, and together we’ll make sure to save Mr. Oh and stop Kim Myeong-gil. Alright?” Gun-woo nodded and he stepped closer, his hands raising bravely to hold onto Woojin’s hips. “I got you, Gun-ah…I got you.” Woojin pulled him into an embrace and Gun-woo immediately melted into his arms. He sighed into his shoulder then tightened his arms around Woojin’s waist. 

“I’m glad I met you, hyung.” he whispered. He turned a little to bury his face into the nook of Woojin’s neck, the fusion of his cologne and his natural scent was like aromatherapy for his mind. He felt almost calm. He wished he could stay like this forever. 

“Don’t get sappy on me now, Kim Gun-woo. You’re talking like this is our last time together.” Woojin joked. His low rumbling chuckle vibrated against Gun-woo’s chest. 

Gun-woo pulled away, only a slight, in most eyes he barely even moved from their embrace. But his nose grazed against his cheek and his eyes could practically count each individual eyelash. Their eyes met and Gun-woo softly added, “I really am happy to have met you, Hong Woojin. I wouldn’t trade our time together for anything in the universe.” 

Woojin’s eyebrows raised ever so slightly at the mention of his full name. Oh, it was serious. He moved his right hand from around his shoulders, down his back to rest at the small curve of his back. And his left,... he brought it up to Gun-woo’s face, the tip of his thumb running down the jagged line of his scar. His eyes made a beeline from his scar, to his lips, to the cute beauty mark on his nostril then to his eyes. They were softer and wider than before, a little teary and red but nonetheless as beautiful as the first time Woojin saw them. Truly saw them.

“I would rather live a life of torture than spend a day without you, Gun-woo. I hope you know that.” 

Gun-woo made a stifled sound of confirmation before pressing his lips messily against Woojin’s lips. Woojin firmly held his neck and kissed back with equal force and desperate want. Gun-woo’s lips were soft (of course, like everything else about him), unlike his own. Woojin could only pray Gun-woo was enjoying the kiss as he was. It was something unlike anything he’s done before. He’s kissed plenty of people before this but he never felt this burning sensation in his chest for them. He never felt like he’d lay his own life down to make the kiss last just a little while longer. But time is not a luxury they have at the moment so they pulled apart, eyes fluttering open. 

“We should go get ready.”

Woojin nodded and hummed, “if we ever needed more motivation to kick some ass, I think that was it.”

Gun-woo chuckled. “Only if we come back here or finally go home and do this again. But first, we’re going for rib-eye steak.” 

“It’s a date.” Woojin pressed a kiss on the tip of his nose before stepping back (ignoring how his arms already yearned to wrap around him once more) and opening the door. “After you.”
