Chapter Text
The day you met Spider-Man was a day you learned you’d regret.
Despite the bright sun looming outside, underground the true residents of Nueva York thrived. “Excuse me! Coming through!” You shouted, running through the crowd. “Get back here!” A policeman tells, but he’s already lost sight of you. “Move it! Get out of my way-Find her, the Black Cat!” The captain yelled, and the policemen pushed through the crowd. You chuckled, and turned into an alley. Here there were even less lights, the air more polluted, and the people even sketchier. You couldn’t give a crap, you’re just as sketchy, if not more than anyone else down here. You’ve lived down here in the slums of NY for your entire life, you knew these roads better than maps themselves.
So no one paid any mind as you swiped off your goggles and tossed your white wig into your bag. You quickly strip the leather suit and don the more comfortable hoodie. “Good afternoon ladies,” You smiled, entering the little sandwich shop. “Call me that again and see what happens next,” Greg, the old geezer who owned the place, threatened. You snort as you grab a bag of chips and a soda. “Thank you Jimmy,” You smile as the chummy 37 year old man hands you your favorite sandwich. You pass the duo some bills and give a salute on your way out. “Stop slouching! You look older than me!” You heard Greg shout as you threw your hood back on. You gobbled the sandwich in seconds, and burped the soda till it was empty on your walk home. The chips you decided would be a late night snack.
Climbing up the fire escape up to your apartment, you slide the window open quietly. Once inside your room, you shoved your bag of goodies under your bed and collapsed on top of your mattress. “Hey!” Your door burst open, your roommate Kasey grinning as she sat at the edge of your bed. You glared at her, now that you’re home the adrenaline from your morning pickpocketing has worn off, you’re exhausted. “So,” She sings. “Are you free tomorrow night?” You pretend to think. “Hmm, no.” You shove your head back into your pillow. “Y/n!” She whines. “Come on, I know you are!” She pouts and shakes your shoulder. “Why?” You whine. Kasey sighs. “Well, I thought it’d be fun to go out for once, you know, like dinner, a movie, maybe a club-”
“Let me guess-” You cut her off, sitting upright. “Double date?” Kasey gives you her biggest puppy eyes. “Please! Gabe and I are doing so well! He asked me to set his brother up with someone.” You mimicked a gag as you got off your bed, heading to the kitchen. “Yeah, no thanks, like I said, I’ve got plans.” You grumbled. “No you don’t! I know you!” Kasey pressed her palms together. She looked desperate. So, so desperate. You squinted, trying to fight her begging. “How much are you willing to offer?” You prompt. She stands up right and begins to glow. “I’ll do the dishes for a month, throw the trash out whenever it gets full, and I won’t ever ask you for another favor ever again! Regarding relationships,” She adds right at the end.
You hold your breath. Not having to take out the trash after a long night of heisting, would be nice. “Ugh, fine,” You sigh, defeated. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Kasey hugs you tight, and you give her a little squeeze. “Just tell me this,” You ask her as she releases you. “How much of an asshole is he?” Kasey begins to shake her head aggressively. “He’s a gentleman! He’s great! You’ll love him!” She rants. “But who cares about that! We’ve got to go shopping! Gabe’s taking us to Bijoux!” You gawk at her. “How the hell-” You stop to process it all as Kasey ushers you both out the door. Bijoux Restaurant & Tapas bar was one of the fanciest restaurants in Upper Nueva York.
“Hold on!” You yank Kasey back. “Who’s paying?” You ask. Kasey swallows. “Well, Gabe said his brother reserved the place, so I’m guessing Miguel is.” You scoff. “Do you know what his favorite color is? I might as well look the part if I’m going to be eating a nine course meal.” You joke, making Kasey laugh as you two bound downtown.
You hummed to yourself as you shot your grappling gun up to the ledge. Checking that it could carry your weight, you began to scale the building. It didn’t take you very long to reach the 24th floor. You cupped your hands around your goggled eyes and peered inside. All the most beautiful jewels you could imagine sat pretty in their vulnerable glass cases. In the year 2099, security measures were a lot more ruthless, but that didn’t mean they were fool proof. Glass was still glass, and they were no match for your claws. You gazed about the jewels once more. wondering how many you could fit into your bag. You had a feeling one ruby could pay for your meal and the rest of the table at tomorrow night’s dinner at Bijoux.
“Cute costume,” A rugged voice interrupted your thoughts. You would’ve fallen off the ledge if you hadn’t lost your grip on the rope. The voice in question belonged to… “Uh-who- No, what are you?” You asked, very, very confused. Hanging onto the sleek exterior of the building with a single hand, was a masked figure. The costume they wore was navy blue that glowed in the moonlight, the red design of some kind of skull(?) decorated their chest. “Really? I’m Spider-Man?” This time you could hear the voice clearer, and recognized it as male. You watched as he waved his hands around as he spoke to you. “You know, the hero? I defeated the Vulture last week?” He asked, wondering if any of these clues rang a bell. You tried not to grimace. “What’s a Vulture?”
He groaned, and rubbed his masked face, exasperated. “Look, you’re a bad guy and I'm a good guy,” He begins to ramble. You pay no attention, using your sharp clawed glove to carve a hole through the glass. “Hey! What’re you doing?” Something yanks your hand back as you try to reach inside. A vibrant neon white rope wrapped around your wrist, preventing it from moving. And it belonged to the masked crusader. “Is this coming from you?” You make a face as you examine the thick sticky substance. “What- Yes, now-“ You ignore him again as you follow the rope, it leads to his wrist. “Like coming out of your body?” There’s a weird sick feeling in your stomach. The spider guy thingy pauses.
“Are you serious right now? This is what you want to talk about? You’re serious-“ “You don’t think it’s weird?! That is literally coming out of your body!” You argue back. He takes a step closer to you. “It’s not weird, it’s organic! Now would you mind shutting up for a minute?!” He jabbed back. “Wow for someone who calls himself a hero, you’re a fu-“ You go silent when the sudden loud revving of a hovercycle cuts through the air. “Shit!” You hiss and hop through the hole. “Hey!” Mr. Hero tries to stop you, pulling you back, but you slice through his body fluid rope with your claws.
The sound of glass breaking surprises you as you swipe a dainty necklace from its case. “Hey! Get back here!” You heard him shout. You hid behind a case, silently grabbing a diamond bracelet. “Nuh uh, that’s not yours,” Your hand gets caught in a- web? Is that what it was? He made webs come out of- never mind that. You open your hand and the claws cut through, releasing yourself. You flipped around him and ran, dodging his weird, kind of gross (kind of hot?) webs. You were able to snatch a pair of emerald earrings, just as the police burst through the door. “Oh crap.” You freeze, then book it back to Bug Man.
“Where do you think you’re going?!” Buggy runs in front of you, then notices the group of trigger happy morons behind you. “You!” You recognized the voice as the captain. “All units meet at my location, we’ve got Spider-Man at the scene!” Using this distraction as the perfect getaway, you hopped back out the window to your rope. Only to realize a second too late the damn Bug Boy had cut it. You didn’t even have time to scream as you fell through the sky to your death. But then, just as you were accepting death with open arms, you lurched back up. You swung around mid air, your feet stuck together. You looked up, you were saved by a certain hero and his sticky webs.
“For the record, I find this gross!” You shout, laying upside down as he pulls you up to him with one arm. “I don’t care!” He’s annoyed. He grabs you by the waist, you let out a little yelp. “Hold on, unless you want a death wish.” He mutters. “What-“ You don’t get to even process what he had said to you, before he jumps. You don’t remember screaming, but you’re pretty sure you did, since you recall him yelling at you to shut up. As you two swung through the city of Nueva York, your fear dissipated. That’s when you noticed his grip. “You’re a little handsy.” You grimace as you two land. “Well sorry for saving your life.” He snaps back at you. You’re about to hit him with a one liner when he uses his web to snatch your bag.
“I’m going to have to confiscate these,” He announces. You snort. “Go ahead,” You shrug, walking backwards. “I’ve got everything I need right here,” You dangle the jewelry you’d stolen as it now hangs in your body. “See you later Bug Boy!” You jump down into the manhole you’d uncovered, and run through the sewers towards home. “It’s Spider-Man!” You heard him shout in a rage, echoing through the sewers. You might’ve lost your clothes and backpack and a few heist supplies, but at least you’re rid of the Spider.
