Chapter Text
As the last notes vibrated in the air of the studio, slightly exhausted, but happy nonetheless members of the Kessoku Band smiled at each other. This practice was amazing.
“Nice work!” Nijika exclaimed. “Hey, so you guys wanna go get some D-E-S-S-E-R-T?”
“Yeah, I need me a T-R-E-A-T,” Bocchi responded.
Kita confusedly looked at her bandmates, not understanding why they suudenly started talking like that.
“Whatcha guys talking about?” Ryo asked in her usual tone.
“Yeah, why did you guys just spell dess-” Kita tried to ask but was quickly interrupted.
“NO!” Both Nijika and, surprisingly, Hitori, yelled, taking her by surprise.
“… Uh… why?”
Upon this question, both of their faces became worried and conflicted.
“Oh God, how do we tell you this…” Bocchi mumbled, sitting down on a chair next to her.
Nijika bit her lip for a moment and then looked Kita in the eyes: “Ryo… can’t spell…”
.
..
…
“WHAT?”
Kita wasn’t expecting to hear THAT. What does it even mean? She looked at the bassist, whom she worshipped from day one, and wanted to learn what was behind that mysterious stare of her. Was there… literally nothing?
“She can’t spell, so when we talk about something she wants, we spell it out loud so she doesn’t get too excited,” Bocchi explained, further confirming Kita’s fears.
But that didn’t make any sense!
“She’s a grown woman, she can’t handle hearing the word treat?” Kita wondered. And that was her mistake.
“Treat?” Ryo perked up, hearing her favorite word.
“No treat.” Nijika tried to calm her down.
“Treat?”
“NO treat.”
“Treat?”
“NO TREAT.”
“Aww,” Ryo let out a disappointed sound. What just happened?
“Okay, what is happening?” Kita voiced her surprise.
“We told you, she gets excited when she hears the word T-R-E-A-T,” Nijika explained again.
“Watcha talking about?” Ryo asked again, looking bored by now.
“Taxes,” Nijika shot her down.
“Aw shucks.”
Disappointed, Ryo returned to tuning her bass. Just… wow.
“What, so you guys just treat her like a toddler?” Kita asked with genuine surprise. She should’ve worded that better though.
“Treat?” Ryo got excited again.
“No treat.” This time, Bocchi tried to calm her down, as Nijika was groaning at the moment.
“Treat?”
“NO treat.”
“Treat?”
“NO TREAT.” Bocchi raised her voice.
“Awwww” — yet another disappointed noise from Ryo.
Bocchi sighed and turned to Kita.
“Kita-san, you have to spell it if you are talking about F-O-O-D.”
This conversation made her lose her remaining brain cells, but at this point, Kita just rolled with it.
“Okay… So, are we getting an S-N-A-C-K?”
“Snack?” Ryo perked up.
“Oh come on,” Bocchi let out a disappointed sigh.
“REALLY?” Nijika returned to the mortal plain and yelled in Kita’s direction.
“Oh come on, I spelled it!” Kita tried to defend herself.
“Well, she knows how to spell SNACK,” Bocchi explained.
That was it. Kita had enough.
“SO SHE CAN SPELL SNACK BUT SHE CAN’T SPELL TREAT?” She screamed, not understanding anything anymore.
“Treat?” Ryo yet again jumped on the sound of the T-word.
“NO TREAT,” Kita yelled to her. Ryo didn’t give up.
“Treat?”
“NO TREAT!!”
“Treat?”
“NO TREAT!!!”
Kita coughed, almost straining her voice with all of that screaming. This is so frustrating!
“GOD DAMMIT!” Ryo was fed up with this as well, for a different reason though.
Nijika saw that the mood definitely went down and tried to find a way out of this situation.
“Okay, she’s getting fussy, it’s time for N-A-P.”
Ryo’s mouth formed a satisfied smile as she said “yeeeeah” upon hearing that. So she can spell that as well? Why would she be so excited about napping?
“Wha-what does N-A-P spell?” Kita asked her, out of curiosity.
“party.”
Kita’s dream was dead.
