Work Text:
Ryo Yamada loved quiet days at STARRY, and today was one of them. She sat aloof in her chair, phone in hand and earphones in ear as she scrolled through her feed. She frowned, looking at all the boring posts she had to look through. She sighed, bored out her mind, but there wasn't anything else to do.
The blue-haired girl closed her obscure social media app, and opened up Spotify. She navigated to her library tab and tapped the first thing listed, Future Nostalgia by Dua Lipa. She opened up the album, revealing the cover of a woman driving a car on her screen, before pressing the green play button.
As the sounds of disco-infused pop entered her ears, she immediately went back to her social media app and continued scrolling, unbothered.
"Ryo-senpai, I didn't know you listened to Dua Lipa!"
Her finger stopped swiping up, and she froze at the familiar extroverted voice. She turned around and saw Ikuyo Kita right behind her, smiling with an unassuming innocent look. Her phone turned off as Ryo stared at Kita's yellow eyes, completely oblivious to what she just sparked in her. Those close to Ryo knew that she listened to obscure indie J-rock bands that nobody else has heard of, a fact she prided herself on. Having Kita know she listened to modern western pop could destroy the reputation she worked so hard to maintain.
Luckily for Ryo, she had a plan to get out of this situation and have plausible deniability.
"I don't."
"But I saw your ph- what are you doing Ryo-senpai?"
She could hear the panic and confusion from Kita, but Ryo didn't care as her attention turned towards her phone screen and within the span of 4.87 seconds, she deleted the Spotify app of her phone. She'd have to redownload it again later, but it was better than being labelled a normie.
She saw the green icon disappear and went back to scrolling again, refusing to break eye-contact with the illuminated screen.
"Did you really have to do that?"
"Yes."
And it was worth it.
