Work Text:

Moonstar grew excited and relieved when she was told that the rescue team had brought the others back home. She didn't see Ratch's holoform, or Optimus' holoform. She figured Optimus would be with his realm's Sam and Mikaela while Ratch was helping out with repairs. She hesitated on going down to the medibay though from seeing them. She needed to let the medics work. She could feel Ratch was upset, probably from all the damage done to Prime and his counterpart. But the moment she was told that Ratchet lost the sparkling, she ran down there.

It was chaotic when she got down there. KO, BD, and Ratch tried to get Ratchet to calm down and sedated so they could work on repairs. But Ratchet was getting violent about getting sedated. He was on the ground, pressed up against one of the walls and curled around his form. Knock Out held a syringe filled with the sedative.

"Stay away from me with that!" Ratchet yelled. "I mean it!"

"Ratchet, we need to repair you," Knock Out tried to reason, standing a bit too close. Ratchet swung out and scratched the red paint. "My paint!"

"Ratchet," Moonstar spoke up.

The chartreuse mech paused, optics wide. He turned to her, restarting his optics a couple times. His holoform came to life in front of her, which shocked her that he would have the strength to even activate it. His arms wrapped around her form, hugging her tightly against him. He sank to his knees, Moonstar following and holding him back. Ratchet buried his face into her chest and sobbed violently. She could feel the bond start to mend, feeling him for the first time in so long.

"L-Luna... my Luna... you're here... it's you...," he cried, gripping her harder.

"I'm right here, my little medic. Shhhh... it's okay now. You're safe. You are home," Moonstar soothed, motioning the medics to back away from his real form and mouthing for them to trust her.

"T-The sparkling... oh Primus he's gone... I lost him...," Ratchet stuttered.

"I'm so sorry love," Moonstar said.

"We need to repair him," Ratch said.

"Do what you can without sedating him. It is clear he doesn't want it," Moonstar said.

"But-" Ratch started.

"Ratch, no buts," Moonstar said, giving him a look and message through the bond to do it when he was in recharge.

"Alright," Ratch gave in.

"Thank you," Moonstar said. "Ratchet, I need you to disable your holoform. You don't have the energy for it to stay."

"No," Ratchet said.

"Ratchet, please. I'll go to you. But you need to disable it so you have the strength to get repaired. I can feel how weak your spark is too," Moonstar said. "Trust me."

The mech hesitated before his holoform disappeared. Moonstar went over to his real form, getting scooped up immediately when she was within reach. Ratch grumbled as he got his tools, starting on what repairs he could do. He also got an energon line going to replenish the lost amounts. Moonstar sat next to Ratchet's face, caressing him gently. His optics never left her as she distracted him.

"I missed you... so much Luna," Ratchet whispered.

"I missed you too," said Moonstar. "Much has happened since you were taken."

"...I can feel our bond again," Ratchet said.

"Good," Moonstar smiled.

"I lost another... I'm so sorry..." Ratchet muttered. "I... I wanted so badly to... have a family with you..."

"No, don't apologize. That is not your fault," said Moonstar. "Besides, our twin daughters are strong and healthy."

"They're alive and here?" Ratchet asked.

"Yes. Currently Face and Peter are watching them," Moonstar said.

"Who?" Ratchet asked.

"For another time. Just know that I adopted Peter a while ago. He's with KO and BD," said Moonstar. "There is a lot to explain to you."

"I need... I need to see them..." Ratchet said.

"Ratch, is that okay?" Moonstar asked.

"If it helps keep him still, yes," said Ratch.

"Alright, we'll get them," Moonstar said.

Within minutes, Pinhead walked into the medibay holding the twins. Ratchet looked at the man that came in, skeptical of him. Moonstar moved down to grab the twins, bringing them up as Pinhead stood nearby. Ratchet took the twins, tears streaming down his faceplates. They looked at him with tilted helms, looking curious. It was like they remembered who he was, but not quite.

"Hello my little ones," Ratchet whispered. "It's been so long."

"Mama?" Altair asked, looking at her.

"This is your carrier. The one that had you two," Moonstar tried to explain. She tapped on their chests and then to Ratchet's chest. The twins understood somehow.

"Ca?" Moonshadow asked.

"Yes," Moonstar said. "They're still learning. It hasn't been easy, but we manage. They have amazing sires taking care of them."

"Megatron," Ratchet said.

"You don't have to worry about him. Ratchet, I know it may be a lot, but I do believe it best to remove the bond with him. He isn't who you think he is. He isn't here anymore either," said Moonstar. "It is up to you, but please, don't keep it. I don't want you to get hurt more than you already have."

"I have lost... feelings for him," Ratchet said. "All I could think of was you."

"Then we will have it removed," said Moonstar.

"What are their names?" Ratchet asked.

"This is Altair. And this is Moonshadow," Moonstar said. "And the one that brought them is my soulmate, Pinhead. He's a Cenobite, a race of demons from Hell. You already met your other counterpart. He is part of the bond. There is a counterpart of sire as well as a man named Vittorio with the bond as well. It will also be up to you, but we would like it if you joined us. Prime will also be with us, another counterpart of sire that was rescued too with you. He's the carrier of my other two sons, also twins."

"You... you still want me?" Ratchet asked.

"If you would have me as well," Moonstar said.

"I'm broken," Ratchet said. "I won't make it much longer."

"No, don't say that. You are going to make it through this. I know you will. We have the best medics here," said Moonstar. "So don't go dying on me. You are home. There will be no dying."

"Luna... face it. I am broken. My body is too damaged, and my spark is weak. I won't be here for much longer. There's too much damage to fix," Ratchet said.

"Not on my watch," Ratch said. "You will not be dying. So, stop that train of thought right now."

"See? So no dying," Moonstar said. "He won't let you and neither will I."

The sparklings yawned before settling down to recharge. Ratchet continued to watch them and Luna, staying quiet as he was repaired. Every now and then he would wince in pain from the repairs. His optics grew dimmer. Luna thought he would fall into recharge before he jerked awake.

"Ratchet, try to recharge," Moonstar said.

"No," Ratchet whispered, still being stubborn.

"You need it," Moonstar said.

"She is correct. You are exhausted," Pinhead said. "I know you wish to be awake. You are pushing your body more than what it can handle. You have been doing it for too long. You can rest now. All will be taken care of."

Ratchet didn't say anything. He looked away, continuing to drift in and out of recharge while he watched the repairs his counterpart was doing. He didn't feel comfortable enough yet to fall into recharge.

"You forgot a wire," Ratchet said.

"I know how to do my job," Ratch said. "But thank you."

"You two are just similar," said Moonstar.

"I supposed I am in good servos," Ratchet said.

"You are," Moonstar said. "You wouldn't doubt yourself. He is basically you in a lot of ways, just a different realm."

Ratchet hummed. Moonstar started to hum a bit, which soothed Ratchet enough to recharge. When she was sure that he was fully into recharge, she nodded to Ratch, who quickly put a sedative into the other medic.

"I'll make sure he is repaired," said Ratch.

"Thanks," said Moonstar. "Are the sparklings okay where they are for now? I would hate to disturb them."

"They're fine," said Ratch.

"Oh good," Moonstar said. "Pinhead, can we stay here tonight please?"

"Whatever you want," said Pinhead.

"Thanks," Moonstar said, carefully climbing down and having Pinhead catch her. "I don't want to leave him."

"I understand," said Pinhead, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I love you eternally."

"I love you eternally," Moonstar said.

"He will be alright," said Pinhead.

"Physically, maybe. Mentally, I don't think he will be," said Moonstar, finally breaking down herself and crying.

Pinhead understood. It was emotional losing the sparkling, even though she was not his biological parent. She had already made a promise to herself that she would raise and love the child as her own. Moonstar continued to cry herself to sleep in his arms. He allowed her, just holding her as he took a seat on one of the smaller beds near Ratchet so he could watch the twins and hold her. He needed to be close by in case anything happened too.
