Work Text:

Golden sunlight entered through the gap between the draped curtains. As Sukuna came into consciousness, he squeezed his eyes shut, chasing just a few more moments of rest. He could already tell it was futile, his body was settling into the new day, and his brain was less and less foggy with each second that passed.

Still, before welcoming the sunlight, he wanted to embrace his very own piece of sunshine. He rolled across the bed, seeking the warmth of a sleeping Megumi next to him. But as he reached for the spot where Megumi was supposed to be, he frowned. It was empty and cold already.

That was a new occurrence.  Megumi was the opposite of an early bird, so either something had gotten into him, or it was later than Sukuna thought.

He pried one eye open to take a quick glance at the clock that sat on Megumi’s night table. 8:05 am. It was not early, but it was definitely not a normal time for Megumi to be up already.

He got up, searching for his missing boyfriend. It didn’t take him long, since the smell of freshly brewed coffee guided him right where he needed to be.

He made his way downstairs and into the kitchen, which he found empty, but there was a pot of hot coffee on the stove waiting for him. He helped himself to a mug and walked towards Megum’s preferred spot of their apartment, the terrace.

When he was mere steps away from it, he smiled fondly at the view in front of him. Megumi was still in his pajamas, seated at their little coffee table, facing towards the garden, opposite of Sukuna, so all he could see was Megumi’s messy hair.

He breached the distance in quick but silent steps and leaned down to kiss Megumi’s cheek. “Good morning,” he greeted.

Megumi was not fazed by his presence. He smiled at him, soft and radiant, “‘morning,” he said, giving him a small kiss on the lips.

Sukuna sat on his own chair on the opposite side of the table. “Is everything okay? It’s a bit early for you.”

Megumi laughed. “I know. But everything is fine. I woke up around half an hour ago and didn’t feel like falling asleep again, so I figured I’d prepare some coffee for us and read for a bit.”

Sukuna raised his eyebrows. “You, Megumi Fushiguro, didn’t feel like falling asleep again?”

Megumi stuck out his tongue. “Don’t laugh at me! Give me your mug. You don’t deserve the coffee I made.”

Sukuna laughed and leaned towards Megumi to cup his cheek. “You’re adorable, did you know it?”

Megumi pouted. “You’ve mentioned it once or twice, I think.”

“I was startled when I rolled in bed to hug and kiss my gorgeous lover and found a cold and vacant spot instead.”

Megumi’s pout morphed into a small, shy smile. “Oh? You wanted to wake me up in a sweet way?”

“Mhm.” Sukuna said, “I’ll have to save all my sweetness for tonight, then.”

When Megumi’s cheeks took up an intense pink shade, Sukuna considered himself a winner.

And he wasn’t bluffing. He really intended to make up for the lost moments that night.

But he decided to let the subject go. After all, they had some things to do that day, and it wouldn’t do to spend it in bed, as tempting as the option was.

“We’re seeing your dad today, right?” He said instead.

Megumi tucked a strand of hair behind his ear. “Yes, we’re having lunch with him at that new vegetarian place Choso told us about the other day.”

It had been a little less than a year since Megumi and his dad started reconnecting. Sukuna knew it hadn’t been easy, and he was very proud of Megumi for deciding to take these little steps towards building a better relationship with his dad.

Knowing that Megumi was in the process of healing all of his childhood wounds was incredible. Sukuna got a lump in his throat just thinking about it.

“So we have the morning for ourselves?”

“More or less. I have to wrap his gift, and I want to go jogging with you. I don’t feel like doing pilates.”

“Alright, just let me finish my coffee and get dressed and we can go.”

When they returned, they took a quick shower together and Sukuna cooked breakfast for the both of them. Scrambled eggs with bacon on the side for himself, avocado toast for Megumi. Afterwards, Megumi set to finish up Toji’s gift.

“This is just spectacular,” Sukuna commented as he helped Megumi craft an elaborate bow to decorate the hunting knife he had purchased.

“I just hope he likes it, honestly. I’m still getting to know the man,” he replied.

“He will, I’m certain, baby,” Sukuna sais, reassuring.

Megumi smiled at him. “Miki spent more time with him than I did. She said he was the type of man to enjoy a hunting knife. I hope she wasn’t lying to me so she could still be Toji’s favorite kid.” He joked.

Sukuna laughed. “She would never.”

“Hm, I don’t know about that. She loved to cheat on Monopoly when we were little, who knows what other evil things she’s capable of.”

“So that’s where you learned how to cheat on boardgames. I should’ve warned Choso before introducing them.”

“I don’t cheat on boardgames!” Megumi complained.

Sukuna let out a loud laugh. “Baby, I love you. And that’s why I can admit you are a dirty little cheater when we play Uno with Yuuji and his friends.”

“I do it to help you win.”

“And I appreciate it.”

They stared at each other for a few seconds and then they broke out laughing simultaneously. They laughed until their bellies hurt, and Sukuna thought that he was the luckiest man on the planet.

Once they calmed down, Megumi got back to working on the bow for Toji’s gift. There were only some fine details to fix, and soon enough, the knife was ready to be gifted. “That’s it,” Megumi said. He held it in his hands, inspecting it. “I kept the receipt in case he doesn’t like it, but I think it looks good, no?”.

“It does.” Sukuna said.

Megumi smiled, satisfied with his work. Then, his smile grew brighter, and his eyes got all wide and shiny. “I got something for you as well.” He got up and walked to a drawer where they kept receipts and some travel souvenirs like postcards and pictures that still hadn’t found their way into a photo album.

Sukuna raised his eyebrows. “For me? What’s the occasion?” he asked, a mild panic rising in his throat. Had he forgotten some sort of anniversary?

Megumi shrugged. “Ah, nothing in particular, it just caught my eye as I was shopping the other day,” he said, rummaging through the top drawer.

He came back to sit beside him with what looked like a letter, fancy envelope and all. He handed it to Sukuna.

Sukuna shot a questioning look at him as he took it, and Megumi smiled. “Go on, open it,” he encouraged him.

Sukuna shrugged and carefully tore the envelope open, emptying it of its contents.

It was a congratulatory card. He unfolded the craft paper, revealing an origami landscape inside. There were colorful balloons, houses, and three tigers. One of those tigers seemed to be a pup, and beneath the landscape, in beautiful calligraphy, the legend “Happy Father’s Day!” could be read.

He stared at it, puzzled, and then lifted his gaze to look at Megumi, to inform him that he had switched the gifts up and this was surely Toji’s.

And then he saw the expectant look on Megumi’s face.

The realization of what this meant hit him with the force of a tornado.

“Megumi,” he breathed, “what- is this for me?”

He nodded. “Surprise!” he said, trying to sound cheerful, but Sukuna could detect the cracks beneath that confident exterior. Megumi was worried, as anxious as he’d ever seen him.

By now, Sukuna knew what this meant. But he kept staring at the card. It was obvious it wasn’t store-bought. Megumi had made it himself.

It contained three simple words. He knew what this meant. But he couldn’t take his eyes off those words.

Megumi was pregnant. Megumi and him were going to have a baby. A baby of their own. He was going to be a father – he was already a father. The three tigers were a nice touch.

It was a lot to take in, and he couldn’t stop staring at the card. He passed his fingers through the carefully crafted origami figures, picturing the focused look on Megumi’s face he must’ve had on as he folded all the little pieces of paper. His frown. The narrowed green eyes. Barely open mouth, containing his breath as he got all the fine little details right.

He smiled at the card.

“Are you angry with me?” Megumi said, bringing Sukuna out of his stupor.

Sukuna lifted his eyes to meet Megumi’s, but the latter had his gaze fixed on his lap, a hand protectively resting on his stomach.

“I know we’ve never discussed this at length but I– I want to have it, Sukuna,” Megumi spoke before Sukuna could utter a word. “I’m going to have it,” he said, resolute. “If you don’t want to have kids, that’s fine, but you should tell me now, because I’m having this baby.”

The prospect of having a baby with Megumi already filled Sukuna’s heart with joy and light. Seeing how protective Megumi was of their baby already filled Sukuna with a fierce pride, one which he’d never felt before.

“Hey,” Sukuna whispered, placing his hand on top of Megumi’s, who finally turned his head to look at him, “I want to have it too,” he said.

Megumi’s eyes widened, gaze unbearably soft, and he let out a shaky breath.

“Are you sure? I know we have never talked about this, and it must be such a shock to you, I don’t–”

“Meg,” Sukuna interrupted him. “I love you. I love this baby,” he pressed down gently on Megumi’s hand over his stomach. “A family with you is more than I ever dared to dream about.”

Megumi’s eyes were bright with unshed tears. When his lips stretched out into a smile, a few tears rolled down his face, and Sukuna reached out to capture him in a tight embrace. He pressed a kiss on Megumi’s temple, and another on his hair.

“I was so worried you wouldn’t– it doesn’t matter,” Megumi said through his tears, nuzzling Sukuna’s neck.

“Thank you, Meg,” Sukuna said softly, caressing Megumi’s hair. “Thank you, thank you so much.”

Megumi lifted his face, leaning back just enough to look into Sukuna’s face. His face was reddened due to his tears, and his eyes were glassy and his smile was the sweetest thing Sukuna had ever looked at, and everything was absolutely perfect.

“These hormones have me crying so much, it’s crazy.” Megumi said, laughing and wiping away his tears.

“That’s fine, baby,” Sukna said, cradling his face. “How far along are you?”

“Just short of six weeks.”

Sukuna couldn’t contain his excitement. His smile was wide, his eyes were bright. “That’s not a lot. Does anyone else know?”

Megumi nodded. “Miki. But I made her swear she wouldn’t say a word to Choso until I told you.”

Sukuna hummed, and he let himself fall onto his back, taking Megumi down with him, who settled comfortably on top of him.

“I love you, Megumi,” he said, staring intently into the world's softest emerald eyes. “Thank you for this. I mean it. I couldn’t– I don’t even know what to say other than how much I love you and our baby.”

Megumi’s smile was even softer than his eyes. “Happy Father's day, Sukuna.”
