Powers

Summary:

An alternate way the powers machine could have gone

Notes:

There's a little bit of gore but nothing huge, just a bit of screaming and light blood description, so warning.

Chapter 1: The Machine

Chapter Text

"This may be my last entry," Sparrow told his camera. Not a great way to start, he thought.

"I've built a machine," he said, "that I think will give me powers. In this chest here... " He showed his camera the inner workings of the machine.

"I've put everything that may possibly be spliced into my DNA to give me powers."

"When do you want me to come on?" Scott asked from behind the camera.

"Well they've heard you now," Sparrow chuckled.

"Oh." Scott teleported into view, and waved.

"Hi, person watching!"

"I've asked Scott to operate this in case something goes wrong."

"And If need be I can teleport him out."  Sparrow paled when Scott said this.

"But Scott, that would teleport you inside, if you teleport me out to stop it from killing me, it'll kill you." Sparrow said, forgetting about the camera.

"I know." Scott nodded, "I don't care."

"You'd do that for me?"

"Well, yeah, that's what friends are for right?"  Sparrow hugged Scott.

"See you later." Scott told him.

"Bye," Sparrow cried, suddenly scared.

"No," Scott insisted,  "Not bye. See you later."

"See you later, Scott, you're a good friend," Sparrow smiled.

Sparrow climbed into the machine, and Scott took his place at the controls. Scott didn't touch a button until Sparrow nodded at him. Scott nodded in response. He pulled a lever and the machine doors closed, he pressed one button and a light at the top of the controls lit up.

"Ahhhhhhhhhh!" Sparrow screamed from inside.

"Do you want me to stop?" Scott shouted.

"No!"

The light turned red and Scott pushed a second button, a second light lit up. Sparrow's scream echoed inside Scott's head. The light turned red. Scott pushed the third button, they had 33 tries left before the process would likely kill him. Scott pressed the button again.

"SCOOOOOOTTTT!" Sparrow yelled, "HEEELLLLPPP MEEE!"

"On it!" Scott switched places with Sparrow.

"ARRRRRRGH!" Scott's scream echoed.

Young Owen, watching his grandfather's old tapes grabbed the arm of his great uncle and whimpered.

"Don't worry," His Great Uncle soothed.

Just a few more seconds, thought Scott, then I can teleport again. He teleported out, to his waystone.

"SCOTT!" Sparrow shouted turning off the machine. He opened the doors and ran up to the machine. There was a fair amount of blood inside, some red, some a mix of turquoise and orange, like partially oxidised copper.

"Scott!" He cried, knowing his friend had died for him.

"Sparrow?" A week voice called.

"Scott!" Sparrow grabbed his camera and ran to where the voice was coming from. He saw Scott lying on the ground, bleeding from a small slit in his arm and his opposite rib.

"Help." Sparrow dashed off camera and grabbed a first aid kit, he bandaged Scott's arm and rib, hoping he'd not lose too much blood. Scott sat up.

"You're bleeding," Scott weezed. Sparrow looked down, he had wounds similar to Scott's, but more of them.

"Oh." He and Scott worked to bandage them.

"You feel any different?" Scott asked.

"No," Owen sighed.

"We'll keep trying," Scott assured him.

"I wanna go home Scott."

"I know a guy who can help with that." Scott smiled, "but come back to visit okay?"

"Okay." Scott and Sparrow limped off towards Sparrows tent, both very tired.

"Was that Grandpa's last tape?" Young Owen asked, "Was it Uncle Scott?"

"No," Scott told him, smiling.

"Where's Grandpa now?"

"He's doing research. I'll tell you what, your Grandpa has a new camera, and you're how old?"

"Six!" Young Owen said, proudly holding up five fingers.

"Why don't you get your dad to show you how to use the old one while  I set up the next tape."

"Okay!"
