Yeah man, I’m good

Summary:

miles and hobie are just messing around in miles’ universe, they talk about being spider-man, their feelings (slightly), their sexualities (slightly), and then they smooch

Work Text:

Under the blanket of darkness, the two teens sat on the roof, their legs dangling over the city below. The warm night air surrounding them.

“You good mate?”

Hobie’s voice broke the silence that had been growing between them, making Miles snap out of the daydream he’d been stuck in.

“Yeah man, I’m great, why?”

“No reason, just checking in.”

“Cool, well, I’m good, are you?”

Hobie laughed. “Yeah I’m good.”

“Well, that’s good.”

“Yeah it is,” He replied, shuffling himself closer to where Miles was sitting.

Miles could feel his breath against his cheek.

“You can tell me if you’re not fine you know?” Hobie whispered into his ear, “You can always talk to me Miles, don’t forget.”

He could feel the shift in the mood, he gulped as he turned his head away from the other teen. He knew what he was getting at, knew what he was asking.

“Uh, well, I guess I’m a little bit stressed.”

“Yeah?” Hobie breathed.

“Yeah. Just- just, this whole ‘Spider-Man’ thing, like, I thought that being with the others again would make it all easier, but it’s just harder. And- and I can’t help but wonder, what if Miguel was right? What if I’m really not meant to be Spider-Man?”

A pregnant pause settled between them before Hobie inhaled sharply.

“Look, Miles. It doesn’t matter what Miguel, or anyone says. You are Spider-Man.”

“But-”

“No seriously. It doesn’t matter what shit anyone gives you, as long as you want to be, you’re Spider-Man. No matter how many times someone knocks you down, you get up, and shit man, you’re probably the bravest guy I know. If you’re not meant to be Spider-Man then I’m sure as fuck not.”

Miles turned his head to look back at him. Hobie not being meant to be Spider-Man was a laughable thought. He was brave, he did what was right, and he stuck up for what he believed in. He was, like, definitely perfect for it. And a world where he wasn’t wouldn’t make any sense. He laughed quietly at the thought.

“Yeah I guess, I don’t know, I was just pretty caught up in my head I guess.” He said softly as he looked into the other boy's eyes.

Quickly Hobie broke eye contact, laughing suddenly. “Don’t be mate! Trust me, you’re perfect. Doin’ everything right.”

“Thanks man.” He replied.

“Now, are you gonna take me inside or are we just gonna sit here all night? No offence or anything but my arse is starting to ache.”

Miles grinned, “Shit yeah, c’mon man.” He stood up and made his way to the door leading back down to his home, Hobie following behind whilst they clomped down the stairs. The hallways were empty and quiet as the two made their way through, chasing after one another, grabbing at each other's limbs each trying to overtake the other.

Quickly they reached Miles’ door, the boy fumbling through his pockets for his keys as Hobie laughed quietly.

“C’mon man don’t laugh!” Miles whined as he turned the key in the lock, swinging the door open. “My parents aren’t home tonight by the way, so you don’t have to worry about them.”

“Your parents aren’t home? Morales what are you implying?” Hobie asked with mock horror painted across his face.

“Fuck you man you know what I mean.”

Hobie laughed again, shoving Miles slightly once they reached his bedroom. “Yeah I know.”

No matter how many times the other boy had been into his room Miles didn’t think he would ever get used to the sight of it. Hobie, with all his colour and movement, stood in the middle of his bedroom. It looked amazing, artistic even. He threw himself onto his bed after slipping off his boots.

“You just gonna stand there or what mate?”

“Huh? Yeah, yeah.” Miles mumbled as he sat down next to the other teen. Silence settled over the pair as their knees touched. Miles gulped. “Before, you uh- you said that if I wasn’t meant to be Spider-Man, then you weren’t either, I don’t get that, like, you’re perfect for it.”

Hobie turned to face him. “Well y’know, it’s not like I don’t think I’m meant to be Spider-Man. It’s more like, I’m not a hero, so, if you think you’re not right for the job. Then neither am I.”

“Dude, you’re like, definitely a hero, and before you say that shit about not calling yourself one, I’m calling you one. So, yeah.”

The air between them crackled as their eyes met.

“Anything else happening with you Miles?” Hobie asked, almost like he knew something.

“Uh- I don’t know, do you think there’s anything happening?”

“Mm I’m not sure, but, if there was, you could tell me.” So, Hobie definitely knew something then, probably anyway. Like, in the grand scheme of things, he was probably going to end up with the knowledge anyway. And plus, he didn’t believe in labels anyway, so it wouldn’t really matter.

“I guess, there is something,” Miles took a breath, “I think I like, well, I know, yeah, I know that, I kind of like, guys, as well. I like guys, as well as girls. Both!”

Hobie grinned at him, “Don’t sweat it man, you could say I like both too, I’m more partial to one, but both are good. It’s like, being different is good. Liking both is good.”

“Yeah?” Miles whispered, smiling back.

“Yeah.”

He met Hobie’s eyes before looking down at the boy's lips, they were very nice lips admittedly, he probably used chapstick, actually maybe not, it didn’t seem very on-brand for him. However, chapstick use or not, his lips were nice and Miles had just admitted to liking boys, so it would probably be appropriate to kiss them. Most likely.

As they breathed against each other’s faces, the air thick with tension, Miles suddenly surged forwards, pushing their lips together.

It wasn’t fireworks, not like how it’s described in books and stuff. It was different to that, warm, and soft, and like, it was right. It felt right. They fit together. And as he pulled back, eyes scanning Hobie’s face for his reaction he couldn’t help but smile.
