Work Text:
You exhaled through your nose, gently pushed the covers back and got up from the bed. You crossed the dark living room and opened the balcony doors. The cold air nipping at your bare legs.
You took a seat in one of the chairs and looked up at the tiny specks of stars.
There was nothing on your mind. You simply couldn’t sleep.
You sighed.
For the last few nights it had been like this. Sleeping in Keigo’s embrace, his hot breath tickling the back of your neck. The slight twitch of his feathers. The inaudible murmurs from his wondrous dream filled sleep.
You weren’t envious though. Keigo needed his sleep. He was a Pro Hero after all. And you…
You were—
“I thought I’d find you out here.”
Of course he woke up.
“What are you doing out here”
You shrugged with a hum.
“Can’t sleep?” You repeated the action. “You wanna talk about it?”
You shook your head. “There’s nothing to talk about.”
He stepped in front of you, leaning against the rail and obscuring your view of the lively city below. “Well, there’s gotta be something on your mind for you to be out here.”
“Oh,” You looked away, finding the loose thread in the cushion more interesting. “I didn’t know I could only be out here if I had a reason.”
He sighed. “You know I didn’t mean it like that.”
You did. You stayed silent.
“Will you at least come back inside?” More silence, another thread plucked free. “Dove.”
He was getting agitated. You didn’t mean to irritate him.
“Dove,” he tried again, moving to touch your face. “ Oh .”
You’d flinched back.
You didn’t mean to. You loved when Kegio held your face. Always so gentle, like he was holding the most precious thing in the world.
But now, you didn’t want to be touched.
He turned to grasp the rail. His body tensed up for about 15 seconds, you counted, before his shoulders and wings sagged.
He told you to try and get some sleep then went back inside.
And then you were left alone once again.
Just you and your newly formed thoughts.
And the thoughts you were desperately tried to ignore.
