Chapter Text
The tv flickered off much like Mono’s hopes of not waking up in the wilderness when he was sucked into the tv after nearly escaping the Thin Man, like he always did in the previous cycles. Mono let out a choked whimper, a tear forming in his eyes then slipping down his cheek till it rained down on the nearest blade of grass. However the tears didn’t stop as what felt like two rivers streaming down his pale cheeks, he let out a wail of grief like he had been going through this over and over again thousands of times.
Except he had, he had been going through grief and pain over and over and fucking over again, in several fucking previous cycles crafted by the Signal Tower, the bastard creature responsible for his pain and loss. However he didn’t just lose his innocence, his family, his free will, his comrades, his…beloved. “Six…” Mono’s voice cracked as he finally spoke, the broken whisper that spoke of sleepless nights, hours of wailing, screaming for one name to come back, to save him before all went to silence as his transformation from child to adult completed.
A whisper that spoke of the loss of a beloved, a loss that could never compare to the other losses of this world. A whisper that spoke of a betrayal from a beloved, a beloved who was more broken then he thought. “Oh Six.” Mono brought up his hands to his tear streaked face, his knuckles sloppily wiping the wetness away from his cheeks.
Even with his efforts, more tears came pouring down his face, raining on the grass below him as the boy continued to unleash his grief into the lonely forest. “Why?! Why does it have to be this way?! Why do I have to continue with this fucking endless cycle?! Why can’t Six and I be happy?! Why can’t any of us be happy?! We did nothing wrong to deserve this!” Mono’s wails grew in volume as he threw his head back, screaming out his never ending grief and desperate broken cries of a child who wanted nothing more than to have his family and the love of his life back but of course, he couldn’t. “MOM! DAD! RAINE! SIX! WHERE ARE YOU?! I NEED YOU!”
But nobody came…
Mono wailed hysterically as he slumped to the ground, burying his face into his hands, muffling his cries. After all, no one would hear them, no one would rush to his aid, no one would hold and comfort him, tell him everything would be alright…that he wasn’t alone. Ah but she might. “Six.” Mono gasped as his head shot out from his hands, his blurry tear filled eyes still streaking his face. Quickly his hands went to his face, wiping them free from tears and rubbing his eyes to remove the blurriness. Once his vision was clear, Mono stood on his feet and looked in the direction of where he heard his beloved’s screams, a place he knew very well.
“Shit! No! Get the fuck away from me!” The voice was more distant thanks to the distance Mono was standing, but the boy still managed to make out who was screaming. “Lez? Lez!” The boy knew that voice very well as he went on walks with this boy, held his hand when he was scared like he did with Six in the previous cycles and cuddled him in his arms when he had nightmares. He was an antisocial child whose heart was closed up tight thanks to the horrors of his past, but Lez was slowly softening up with Mono’s gentle attitude and soft affection.
“Lez! Six! Don’t worry! I’m coming!” Mono knew neither Six nor Lez could hear him considering his distance, but he didn’t care as his beloved and friend were in danger and he needed to save them. Yet despite that, Mono felt a bit of doubt fill his core especially toward Six considering their history. Should he go and save Six after what she did to him? After dropping him into the Signal Tower to allow him to become the Thin Man, the monster who is the most feared in the world? Should he go through that pain and torment the Signal Tower had crafted for him, breaking his mind, his sanity, everything about him till he was nearly numb to the point he couldn’t feel anything.
Should he go through another cycle that never had a happy ending for him or anyone really, Mono honestly didn’t know. Then again, was there a point to this anymore? A scream from the woods broke through Mono’s thoughts causing the boy to shake his head, he turned his gaze back to the woods. “No, I’m not like the other bastards in this world, I’m going to leave my beloved or my friend at the mercy of the Hunter. It wouldn’t help me if I turn into the monster the Tower wants me to become, I’m not the Thin Man, I’m me, I’m Mono and I will always love my Six!”
Mono’s eyes narrowed in fury as the whites darkened to black, he stomped one foot on the ground then sprinted after the Hunter, intending to save his friends even if shit would hit the fan.
