Work Text:
When Deuce woke up, it was the smell of breakfast that alerted him he was alone in the bed and he groaned low in his throat. His husband definitely had an appetite for four and needed to eat, but did he have to leave Deuce alone?
With a sigh, he dragged himself out of bed and began to make his way to the bathroom, brush his teeth and get ready to face the day. As he brushed his teeth, he realized that he had the whole day with Ace, just him and no one else.
It was their monthly date night and that picked him up more than it most likely should have, but he didn’t care, it had been a long time since he and his husband had any alone time so he was excited.
As he entered the kitchen, he was greeted to the sight of Ace at the stove, flipping pancakes and expertly moving about with other things and Deuce fell in love all over again.
Ace’s sun kissed skin was glowing in the morning sunlight and his freckles stood out in the light, making his face always look more youthful than his twenty years old, and the smile he had on his face was just perfection in Deuce’s eyes.
When Deuce had met Ace, both were kids on the street, the freckled child having run away from his foster home and Deuce having been abandoned by his own family. They struggled together, watched each other's backs and made the most ironic duo on the entire street.
Then they’d been booked by the Whitebeard Police officers, who heard about two teens breaking and entering houses before stealing and making off with any valuables. Instead of throwing them into jail, the head officer instead leant them a hand, taking them in and raising them as his own and giving them a second chance at life.
Despite Deuce being on the streets longer, Ace was the one who returned with the most scars from the experience, only to find out it was due to his father’s family immune system being passed onto him and giving him a frailer body than most and with his narcolepsy, Deuce had taken it upon himself to take care of both of them.
That was how he accidentally proposed to his favorite idiot.
And a few years later, they were here. Ace being the house husband that Deuce thought he would never be and Deuce being the breadwinner with his job at the local hospital.
They argued, but what couple didn’t? They had their moments of frustration due to miscommunication and even pettiness, but they always made it out alright in the end. And as Deuce approached Ace, he couldn’t help but feel like this was a dream come true as he wrapped his arms around the slimmer waist, mentally cheering when he noticed Ace had chosen to wear one of his shirts and that it was a tad too big which was cute, and lightly pecked him on his cheek, causing Ace to startle slightly.
“Morning, Deu.” grinned his husband of five years.
“Morning beautiful,” He responded, kissing him on the lips gently, loving the flush that always came when he did so. “I love you.”
Ace spluttered, the flush darkening as he looked everywhere, but Deuce. “What’s all that about so early, cheesy bastard…I love you too, though.”
Yeah, what a dream come true, Deuce thought as he set the table and began to talk with Ace, catching up on anything he missed and vice versa.
