Chapter Text
Years ago while meditating in the plane of Euthymia something brushed against Ei’s mental world, and she opened the plane to the outside presence. It was another world one that was more advanced than Teyvat but lacked elemental energy and powers.
She’d slipped past Celestia’s barriers and while this was not the goal Ei wished to reach with her isolation and meditation. This was something major it felt like something she couldn’t just ignore.
However the other world was not stationary it would soon move on further away from Teyvat. So Ei made a puppet. She gathered the materials from failed attempts. The puppet that cried in his sleep wasn’t the first attempt. Although he was not perfect he was functional.
The puppet she sent to the other world was not at the same level as the crying puppet or the Shogun but it would serve its purpose as a connection to the other world. Ei also made this puppet more human. It would be suspicious for the puppet to not age in a world of mortals. Not to mention the puppet needed to have human organs and bodily functions. Ei had done her best to mimic these things.
She briefly resided in the body of the puppet as she arranged the puppet’s place in the other world. A young child abandoned and eventually placed in a foster home. After a year the puppet was adopted and fully prepared to function on its own.
Ei returned to her meditation and in the years she checked in less and less frequently. The last time Ei had checked in on the puppet was 18 years ago, a week before the puppet’s wedding. That was definitely the most interesting check in.
But 18 years is a long time and the puppet in the other world was not as sturdy as the Shogun and in the midst of her meditation she felt the puppet shut down.
And so Ei quickly took residence in the body of the puppet. She simply had to fix whatever was wrong with the puppet to get it to function again, but when she looked through the eyes of the puppet there was a girl. A girl the resembled the puppet. A girl that resembled Ei. (A girl the resembled Makoto). Ei knew instantly that the puppet had had a child. She couldn’t help but sarcastically think she had done a little too well at making the puppet as human like as possible.
This girl had witnessed the puppet shut down which would seem to the girl that her mother had died. The girl was calling for an ambulance and this complicated things. Ei couldn’t simply fix the puppet anymore and so she retreated back to the plane of Euthymia.
Ei took the puppets memories with her so she could run through them. And as she did Ei watched the girl, Mafuyu, grow up. The puppet’s feelings bled into her own and Ei felt attached to Mafuyu. Ei also felt guilty for the negligence that led to the puppet shutting down in front of her daughter.
Ei ended up making a bit of a rash decision and entered the other world through the fading connection between it and Teyvat.

The transportation had put Mafuyu into a comatose state. At this point Ei realized just how little thought went into this decision. She needed help and the best option was Yae but if she went to Yae herself, Yae would try to convince her to stay and not return to the plane of Euthymia. Ei was too set on her ideas to even give Yae the chance. So Ei took a moment to adjust the instructions for the Shogun puppet. The Shogun would go to Yae, explain the situation, and ask for help. Ei also gave instructions on how to handle Mafuyu.
Then Ei returned to the plane of Euthymia.
