Work Text:
The Watchers. Beautiful, elegant, pure, graceful, powerful, all-knowing beings. Oh how everyone adored them. Constantly needing their attention and validation. Constantly needing their clicks. Oh how dependent everyone was on these glorious creatures.
Except Xelqua.
He was one of those who disobeyed. Who didn't do as he was told. He deserved every moment of suffering he experienced, he did leave, after all. People who disobey should learn their lesson, shouldn't they?
He felt the being's breath on his neck. His heart beat faster as he tried to escape. He knew this was a dream. He wasn't Xelqua, he wasn't a watcher, he was—
“You can't escape the truth, Xelqua. Come back home. Leave these... players here.”
He heard the creature yell these words at him as he frantically ran down the halls. He wasn't going to left himself be victim again. He wasn't gonna watch his friends suffer where no matter what he did nothing would have a good ending again.
“Oh Xelqua, we only did that so you would learn your lesson, to teach you, if you will. Do you want that to happen again? If not, why are you being so ridiculous?”
He focused on running away, trying not to listen to the creature.
He felt restraints.
Oh fuck.
“Oh Xelqua, are you sure you really want to disobey again? Did you really not learn from last time? Did you?”
None of this was real. This wasn't real. This wasn't real, this wasn't real this wasntrealthiswasntrealthiswasntrealthiswasntrealthiswasnt—
Grian woke up in cold sweat. Of course they'd try to convince him while he asleep. He checked his communicator, 4:27 p.m. He'd fallen asleep while resource gathering again. He got up, brushing off the sand on his face and wings before getting out his rockets and flying away.
He hated things like these. He hated being reminded of anything that happened before he joined hermitcraft, but of course they wouldn't let him be. Of course they'll always find a way to remind him. If not by visiting him in his sleep, they'll remind him with another life series. If not that, they'll make a disaster happen on any server he considered home. Thankfully that hasn't happened on hermitcraft, yet.
He just wanted to be free.
Free from ever losing his loved ones lives just for their entertainment. Free from risking his own life just to amuse them. Free from the knowledge of the dark side of these deities, but you can't unlearn what you already know.
He hadn't noticed he arrived back at Boatem. By then, the moon had started to rise. He felt as though that something was.. off about the rock that glew in the night.
He ignored the weird feeling as entered his starter base and headed to bed.
