The sun peeking through a curtain of red is how you usually start your mornings.
Next there were the soft breaths fanning across your chest.
Then the soft chirps.
Finally, as you opened your eyes, there was the deep blue inferno that stared at you ever so lovingly.
You smiled, reaching out to cup the scarred cheek. “Good morning.”
He intertwined his fingers with yours and moved slightly to give your palm a kiss.
“Morning.” His voice was more alert than you were expecting.
“Have you been up for long?”
“Not that long.” Came his mumbled response.
Ah.
So virtually no sleep.
Before you could fuss over him anymore, the red curtain of feathers shifted in a stretch before lifting away, exposing the warm sun across the tangled mess of limbs.
“Morning, dove.” A kiss to the nape of your neck. “Morning, chickadee.”
A groan and a chuckle. “Morning to you too, cockatoo.”
“Turn off the sun.” The one who was sandwiched between yourself and the living furnace groaned, pushing himself deeper into your chest.
You giggled. “But it’s time to get up.” You tried coaxing him from you. “Come on, let me see those scarlet gems of yours.”
With one last exaggerated moan, he allowed you to gaze upon his beautiful soul.
And now, you laid awake in the presence of the soft morning’s glow.
