30 Days of Prompts, Day 1:
Your character receives a threatening letter
Being a founding member of one of the world’s foremost anti-bioterror organisations Chris Redfield was no stranger to threats. Although, these days threatening letters were somewhat of a rarity. That was why he was only mildly surprised to find a suspicious envelope amongst his mail at his personal residence.
The envelope itself was clearly high quality, and had no mailing or return address. Only ‘C. Redfield’ written on it in elegant cursive. So, Chris assumed it must have been hand delivered.
Chris felt the envelope tentatively. It didn’t feel lumpy, or like there was anything other than a single sheet of paper contained inside.
He flipped the envelope over and went to slide the tip of his combat knife under the flap, when he noticed a small mark on the bottom right of the back of the envelope. On closer inspection there was an elegant ‘A.W.’ written in the corner. Chris could only think of one person, alive anyway, who had those initials, although he couldn’t stop his pulse speeding up a little at the thought that it might be a letter from a man or his sister who he was so sure were both long dead.
Chris took a deep breath and broke the seal, refusing to acknowledge the slight shaking of his hand. He gently pried the letter out and immediately noticed a faint trace of perfume still clinging to it.
“Ada,” he sighed, feeling more than a little foolish. He had ended Wesker himself, and Claire had taken care of Alex, his sister, several years prior.
Chris unfolded the letter, pushing thoughts of his arch nemesis aside, and wondering what it was Ada might want.
‘If you hurt him, they will never find your body,
xxx’
Chris read the single line and chuckled to himself. Obviously, she had become aware of his relationship with Leon. And although, even by Leon’s own admission, their relationship had never really amounted to anything concrete, other than one shared kiss, it was clear that she truly cared for the DSO agent.
Chris folded up the letter and returned it to its envelope. He didn’t doubt Ada’s promise. But as long as he fulfilled the one he had made to himself, to be someone that Leon deserved, she would never have to fulfil hers.
Chris shook his head as he put the letter on the bookshelf in the living room. He was sure Leon would get a kick out of it as soon as he was back from his current mission.
