Work Text:

“Chimney, do you think you and Maddie will ever have another kid,” Ravi asked.

Buck watched Chimney as he began to sweat. Maddie had a hard time after having Jee so, Buck wouldn’t blame them if they only have one kid or adopted a kid instead. He looked over at Eddie wondering if he would ever have another kid. Christopher was an amazing kid, perfect honestly. Buck could imagine Eddie with a big family with two or three more kiddos running around. He is such a good dad.

Buck wonder if he would ever have kids. Everyone said he was an amazing uncle but does that mean he would be a great dad? Yeah, sometimes he was like a second parent to Chris but at the end of the day, he wasn’t. He knew his place. When Eddie said no, that meant no.

Eddie’s eyes match his and he smiled. Buck smiled back. For a split second, he imagined a life with Eddie with Christopher. With a little one that was a perfect mix of both of them. Tan skin with blue eyes and dark curls. Buck looked away knowing he couldn’t have that life. Even if he wanted to.
—----------------------------------------------
The bar was dimly lit as the music blasted around them. A classic rock hit from the ’80s. The 118 walked through the crowd and settled into their favorite booth. A round of beers and one Coke were placed in front of them before they even ordered. The conversation fell as they talked about their day and the crazy calls they had.

Eddie couldn’t keep his eyes off of Buck. The way Buck’s shirt was tight around his arms. The way his whole body shook as he laughed. Hand throw over his heart as if he was protecting it. Eddie has been in love with his best friend since he allowed himself to be last year but he knew deep down he loved Buck since he met him on the first day. Buck was the only one that brought out the real Eddie. He just wished Buck felt the same thing about him.

“Are you coming?”

Eddie blinked at the question. He wasn’t listening as he was fantasizing about Buck. “What?”

“Are you going to do karaoke with us?” Chim asked.

Eddie looked at the group to see everyone was going except for Buck who was still sitting next to him. He could still feel Buck’s knee against his own which made him feel warm.

“No, I’m going to stay here.” Eddie turned giving Buck a smile.

“Wanna play pool?” Buck asked.

Eddie nodded following Buck to the tables. Buck picked up a stick leaning over the table. Eddie’s breath hitched in his throat as he watched Buck shove the stick back and forth. Eddie sat down crossing his legs trying to think about anything else but the way Buck’s back muscles pulsed under his shirt or the way his ass looked in the jeans. Eddie really wished at this moment Buck would buy himself the correct size.

“Are you okay?”

Eddie looked up and saw Buck giving him a weird look. “Never better.”

He was not being successful with being chill. He knew Buck was onto him. Buck came closer leaning over him, examining him. Eddie groaned. Buck continued staring at him which just made everything worst.

“Can we get two large margaritas?” Buck shouted. He winked walking back to the table. Fuck, Eddie thought. What was Buck planning?
—---------------------------
One drink turned into four. The team was long gone. Three games of pool were played. Buck and Eddie are inches apart as the sticks have been discarded against the table. Buck knows that the alcohol is talking but at that moment neither of them was moving away.

Buck placed a gentle hand on Eddie’s hip pulling him closer so their chests were touching. Buck stared at Eddie’s face trying to memorize each detail so that if one day he never got to see it again then he would always have the memory.

Eddie’s hands gripped his ass pushing his hard against Eddie’s leg. Buck bit his lip knowing that what he does next changes everything. He dreamed about this moment and it was finally going to happen. Buck took Eddie’s chin tipping his chin back slightly and kissed his lips. Eddie’s lips moved with his. Soft and deep. The taste of salt and lime burst along their tongues.

Eddie pulled back with bright eyes. He took his hand pulling him out to an Uber. It wasn’t theirs but they didn’t care as Buck threw cash at the guy to take them to his loft.

Eddie’s hand gripped his hair as he kissed him again. His knee pushed Buck’s legs apart. Buck pushed his hips up to meet Eddie’s and he pushed down. They were sloppy kisses and limbs but they were them.

Buck pushed his door open as Eddie worked at Buck’s pants to slide them slightly to show his deep v. Buck placed a hand over Eddie’s hand stopping before he was completely naked. Eddie flashed his dark eyes. Buck’s whole body whither at the look Eddie was giving him. He wanted to keep going but he had to know.

“Are you sure?” Buck asked.

“Yes, are you sure?” Eddie questioned back.

Buck pulled him back in for a kiss slipping Eddie’s shirt off. They walked up the steps together dizzily so as not to fall over.

Buck pushed Eddie onto the bed and he followed placing hands on either side of his best friend's head. Buck kissed the inside of his neck causing a gasp to escape Eddie’s lips. Buck bit down knowing a mark would form but he liked the thought of saying Eddie was his. Even if it was just for the night.

Buck continued his trail kissing long Eddie’s hard chest down to the base of his hips. Buck pulled his jeans down his legs placing kisses on the inside of his thighs. He kissed back up, licking along Eddie's happy trail as the underwear came off next. He placed his lips against his opening making Eddie’s hips buck forward. Eddie grabbed hold of his hair pushing him back slightly.

“Wait, I need you. All of you.” Eddie begged.

Buck stood up kissing Eddie’s lips as he grabbed the lube from his nightstand. He rocked his hips as Eddie’s head fell into the crook of his neck. Just like a puzzle piece. The world fell away as it was just the two of them. Bodies against bodies. Eddie whine as the pleasure became too much to bare. Buck closed his eyes riding out the wave of ecstasy.
—------------------------------
The sun lit the room making Buck blink his eyes open. He looked down as he says his arms wrapped around a naked Eddie. If it was anyone else he might be freaking out but it was Eddie. Buck placed light kisses on Eddie’s tan skin making Eddie stir.

“Good morning, sweetheart,” Buck said.

Eddie turned in his arms looking at him with bliss. They both wanted this for so long and now that it happened there was no going back.

“Good morning, babe.” Eddie smiled.

Maybe knowing had to change. Buck and Eddie loved each other so much. If you ask anyone they would say that they were already married. It was just the two of them getting in the way.
—------------------------------------------
Turns out they were still in their way. Eddie sat on the couch of the fire station as Buck cooked dinner for the house with the help of Bobby. After the night of their affair, nothing changed between them. It was honestly like it didn’t happen. Eddie didn’t know what happened.

After he left Buck’s, Buck went silent. Eddie expected that. Buck gets in his own head and panics about things that didn’t need to be panicked over. Then when they were at work Buck would partner up with everyone but him. Now that bothered Eddie since they were the best partnership all of L.A. had seen. Did Buck regret them?

“What is going on with the two of you?” Hen asked sitting down the bowl of chili she had sneaked passed Chef Buck.

“Nothing,” Eddie said. The smell of the tomatoes made him queasy. He held his stomach waiting for it to subside.

“Are you good? You look kinda green.”

The second another drift of the tomato made him want to throw up and this time there was no stopping it. He jumped up running down to the bathroom where he hurled twice. He really needed to go to the doctor for this stomach bug. It wasn’t going away after three weeks.
—-----------------------------
“What are your symptoms?” The doctor asked.

Eddie rattled off everything he was feeling. He was nauseous all the time and a lot of smells triggered his gag reflex. He was tired more than usual and irritable. Eddie snapped at a lot of people in the past week which surprised not only them but himself too.

The doctor noted all of his symptoms and then draw three vials of blood. Eddie was left in the room as he waited for the results. He read the posters on the wall that read, wash your hands like you wipe your ass. Eddie glared at the poster making sure he read it right. Then he looked over at another poster of what an inside of a pregnant belly looked like. The baby curled close.

Eddie laid a hand on his stomach imagining what it would be like to be pregnant. What it would be like for Christopher to have a sibling? It wasn’t like he hadn’t been begging for a brother since he was three.

His thoughts were interrupted by his phone buzzing in his pocket. Eddie pulled it out to see it was a text from Buck.

Buck: HEY WE NEED TO TALK

Yeah they did, Eddie thought.

Buck: CAN WE GET BREAKFAST TOMORROW AFTER OUR SHIFT?

Before Eddie could type out a response the doctor came back with the results. He probably had food poisoning. Then the doctor said the words he never thought would come out of her mouth.

“Congratulations, you’re pregnant.”
—-----------------------------------------
Car accident on I 89. Car dangling off the cliff. Please be cautious.

The last few weeks have been awful and the only person that made his misery was Buck himself. After he and Eddie slept together, Buck freaked out. He cared so much about Eddie that he was afraid he was going to mess up what they have. As he did, Buck just made everything worst. Now Eddie was staring at him like he was a deer in the headlights. Eddie was spooked but also pissed and Buck could understand why.

The truck stopped and the team jumped out to assess the crash. It was a two-car crash with one car having minimal damage but the other dangling off the edge with gas leaking. There were two passengers in the front seat. Buck would have to pull them from the back window with the help of Chimney. The problem was they had to keep the car stable or it would tip causing them both to go and the passengers down the cliff. If they fell, they were falling twenty feet into rocks.

“Ready Buck,” Bobby asked.

Eddie walked over stopping him with a hand on his shoulder. The first contact they had in weeks.

“Don’t do this. It’s not safe. Have Ravi do it.”

“Why we’ve done tons of these before?”

“It’s different this time.”

Buck scrunch his eyebrow’s together not understanding what Eddie was getting at. He turned around placing his helmet on his head.

"Buck!" Eddie yelled. His hands were on his hips. Eddie was pissed but Buck didn’t know why.

Buck walked back over to Eddie placing a hand on his shoulder.

"It's okay, Eddie." He tried to reassure him. Then he walked back towards the scene. He could hear Eddie huff and curse him out under his breath but right now he had a job to do.

"I'm pregnant!" Eddie shouted.

Buck froze in his spot turning around to see tears well in Eddie’s eyes. He ran to Eddie scooping him in his arms. He didn’t care that everyone was watching them. Bobby was having an aneurysm about the paperwork they would have to do. At that moment Buck was going to be a dad and that was all he cared about.

“When did you find out?”

“This morning,” Eddie pulled at a sonogram handing it to him. There was a little blob no bigger than a bean but that was their kid. The kid Buck dreamed about.

Buck pulled Eddie into a kiss as the world fell around them. “I love you,” He said between kisses.

“I love you too.”
—---------------------------------------
Three months later

Eddie and Buck moved away from the weirdness after Eddie told Buck that they were going to have a baby. They decided to have Buck move in with Eddie and Chris. Even after many more kisses and I love yous. Even after they both cried as they heard their baby’s heartbeat as they moved around on the screen. Eddie couldn’t remove the dark thought in his brain that was antagonizing him.

"Tell me this," Eddie said looking at the world that was just inches away. A world he could have with the white picket fence and kids. What he was about to ask could take all that away in a blink of an eye. "Did you only decide to be with me," he turned around to face Buck. To see his true answer in his eyes "To love me, after I told you I was pregnant?"

Buck paused placing the few items they picked up for the baby down on the counter. Each item was gender-neutral as they wanted to wait a few more months to figure out the sex of the baby. Even though Buck was excited and knew it was a boy already.

Buck walked over kneeling to grab Eddie’s hands. He rubbed his thumb against his knuckles knowing this soothed his anxiety. “I have loved you since the day I dropped you off at Chris’s school after the earthquake. I have wanted to be with you since I saw you on your first day even if I was kind of an ass.”

“I was an ass after that night together because I was afraid to ruin everything but then I still found a way to ruin everything. Those few weeks without you were agonizing. I couldn’t live another minute and then you told me you were pregnant.”

“So, know I do not just love you because you are having my kid,” Buck placed a hand on Eddie’s now much rounder stomach. “I loved you way before but now there is a bonus.”

Tears stream down Eddie’s cheeks which could be due to his hormones. Eddie was never supposed to have this life. The perfect all-American was expected of him but then Buck came in like a wrecking ball to his life. He would never have it any other way. He placed a hand on his stomach and knew his life was perfect.

Buck stood up holding a gift back. “You ready to go give this to our boy.”

That was another reason why Eddie loved Buck. He saw Christopher as his son. He always did way before they ever got together. Christopher was excited that his Buck was moving in. That meant game nights, video game challenges, and pancakes all of the time.
Buck and Eddie walked into Chris’s room. Chris turned to them pausing his game and taking his headphones off.

“Kiddo, we have something to give you.” Eddie handed the bag to his son. Chris gave him a side eye but then pulled out the shirt.

The shirt read, best big brother. Chris’s eyes grew wide and then he looked up at the men excited.

“I’m going to be big brother,” Chris yelled.

Buck and Eddie laughed loving how excited Chris was. Eddie tried to tell Buck that every year he put baby brother on his Christmas list. This year might be the year his wish came true. Chris started asking them a million questions. Some they could answer, others they couldn’t. Some they weren’t ready to answer.

“So, like where does babies come from?”

Eddie looked at Buck with wide eyes but Buck gave him the wide eyes right back. Buck coughed trying to diffuse the awkwardness that just filled the room. Chris looked between them waiting for an answer. It wasn’t like they could say a stork with Eddie's stomach twice the side in four months. Chris was too old for that anyways. He was going to middle school the next year.

“Um, well when two people love each other.” Eddie grabbed Buck’s hand wanting him to help him. What came out of Buck’s mouth he wished he didn’t ask for that help.

“They make love and then the sperm fertilizes the egg causing a baby to grow which is what is happening in your dad’s stomach.” Buck placed a hand on Eddie’s belly to emphasize

Eddie held a breath waiting for further questions which he hoped there weren’t any.

“Can I touch?” Chris asked shyly.

Eddie aggressively shook his head, yes waving his son to come over. It was too early to feel movement but there was a baby in there nonetheless. Chris laid a gentle hand which made Eddie tear up. His two children connected even if one wasn’t here yet.

“So, my baby brother is in there. Like how I was in mom’s stomach.”

Eddie nodded.

“We don’t know if it is a boy or a girl yet.”

“It’s a boy Dad,”

“That’s what I said,” Buck yelled giving Chris a high five.

Even if he didn’t want to admit it because all he cared about was having a healthy kid but he did feel like he was having a boy.
—--------------------------
Three months later

Eddie was seven months along. He had been placed on desk duty a long time ago. Which he didn’t mind. The other firefighters often would come into his office begging if they know the sex. If Buck and Eddie had a name picked out. Questioning if he was having twins which he definitely wasn’t. Then Hen and Maddie coordinated together for a baby shower that they insisted they didn’t need. Maddie wouldn’t hear it. She was excited to be an aunt and for Jee to have a cousin.

Here all of Eddie’s family sat in the living room playing games, eating food, and still begging to know what they were going to have. Buck and Eddie had the doctor place either a boy or a girl in an envelope after an appointment. Eddie still didn’t care and was willing to wait till the baby was born but Buck gave him the saddest look so, he okayed for them to have a cake to reveal.

Here was the moment everyone waited for. Hen sat the cake down. Decorated in white with question marks on the top. Buck cut a piece placing it on the plate. Eddie’s heart jumped in his chest when he saw the color. Pink. They were all wrong.

Eddie looked over at Buck to see he was frozen in place. They were going to have a daughter. Buck lifted the plate with a yell as everyone cheered. He bent down placing a kiss on Eddie’s cheek

“Chris is going to be so mad,” Buck giggled.

“Oh, he will get over it. Not’s like this could be the last time he could have a chance of a brother,” Eddie whispered.

Buck smiled. “Really, you would have another one.”

Eddie shrugged. “I’ve always wanted a big family.”
—---------------
The guests were long gone as they began to clean up. Eddie eyed Buck staring at a blanket one of Eddie’s sisters gifted them. His fingers worked over it like it was going to disappear. Eddie walked over trying his best to wrap his arms around Buck’s waist as his own belly was getting in the way.
“Hey, what’s wrong?”

Buck turned around holding up the blanket. “I’ve had these thoughts for a while. I love kids. I’m a great uncle. When you are a good uncle no one expects you to be a good dad. What if I’m not?”

Eddie took the blanket out of Buck’s hand, placing it on the couch. He wrapped his arms around him to allow Buck to lay his head in the crook of his neck. Eddie knew what this was stemming from, Buck’s parental issues. They didn’t know their son was about to be a dad of a little girl. They didn’t know they were going to be grandparents again. That was Buck’s choice and Eddie didn’t press the issue. That didn’t mean Buck’s heart didn’t break not having his parents around.

“Hey, you will be an amazing dad. You already are to Chris way before you even needed to be. I’ve always known you would be a great dad because you care and are kind and loving. You have a heart of gold.”

Buck looked up with tears. Eddie thumbs each one away and kissed the man he loved. There was never a doubt in his mind. All of a sudden he felt a kick that punch the air out of him. Buck gave him a frightened look. Eddie shocked his head grabbing Buck’s hand to sit on the spot of his belly where their daughter was kicking.

“She thinks so too.”
—----------------------------------------
Two months later

The end of the finish line was coming. Eddie’s due date was in just a few days. Buck took off work so to help a very displeased and very cranky Eddie until their little girl was here.

“Buck!” Eddie yelled.

Buck dropped the dishes running into the bedroom. He gasped for air as panic rose in his chest. Was it time? He needs to grab the bag and his keys and. So much was whirling in his brain.

“Buck,” Eddie said sternly. He held up a pair of shoes which meant he needed help, Buck ran over placing them on his boyfriend’s feet. Eddie stretches out a hand for Buck to help him up. Eddie’s belly was big and droopy. Even though Eddie hate it when Buck said droopy but that was the only way to describe it. The baby was low meaning she was going to be here any day. Buck would have to guess tonight.

“Where are you going?” Buck asked.

“For a walk. I can’t keep sitting here. Besides she keeps kicking me in the ribs.” Eddie rubbed his belly wincing as there was another kick.

Buck gave him a sympathetic smile. “You are sure it’s just kicking?”

“Yes, Buck, she is running out of room which means she kicking more to get space.” Eddie huffed walking around Buck to open the front door.

Buck scrambled to follow until Eddie threw up a hand and shook his head no. Buck slumped back knowing Eddie needed his space. Buck would admit he was hovering a lot which he knew got on Eddie’s nerves. Buck just wanted to help and make sure Eddie was okay at all times. Buck also knew Eddie needed his alone time.

Buck turned back to the kitchen to finish the dishes. Then he picked up the living room and did some quick vacuuming. He even put in a load of laundry before Eddie got back. Buck thought that was odd and then he began to worry. He was on his way out of the door when he heard the front door open and close. He walked out to find Eddie doubled over clenching his stomach. Buck knew for a fact Eddie was in labor and having a contraction.

Buck walked over helping Eddie to the couch. Eddie sucked in another breath as another contraction wither through his body. Buck could see he was in pain. Buck also knew these contractions were way too close.

“Have been in labor this whole time?” Buck questioned.

Eddie let out a breath as the contraction subsided. “Maybe.”

“Maybe,” Buck yelled. Then he took a deep breath knowing this was not the time to be dramatic.

“I swear I thought she was just kicking but then,” Eddie stopped talking as another contraction hit. He reached for a handout. Buck scrambled kneeling down to grab it as Eddie squeezed his hand.

“We need to get you to the hospital.”

Eddie shook his head no. “My water all ready broke.”

“Okay, I will call an ambulance so the professionals can be here,”

Eddie huffed. “You are the professional. We are having this baby if you are ready or not,” Eddie yelled as another contraction hit.

Buck took another breath as he tried to stay calm. He needed to be calm and be in firefighter mode. He’s delivered tons of babies before. He could deliver his own, right?

Buck helped Eddie get out of his pants and laid him down on his back. He ran to get some supplies wincing as he heard Eddie yell in pain. Buck steady himself knowing Eddie was in pain but he was going to be okay once the baby was born.

Buck sat between Eddie’s legs and placed two fingers inside his cervix. Eddie winced at the pressure. Buck pulled his fingers out and told Eddie he was ready to push. Buck pushed Eddie’s legs wide to give him more space to work with.

Eddie took a breath and pushed. Buck sat his hands on both of his knees, counting. Eddie was doing good. Eddie pushed a few more times until finally, Buck could see the teardrop of brown hair.

“You are doing amazing, baby. I see the head. Okay, a few more pushes and the head will be out.”

Eddie shook his head no as he pushed a little more. The head slowly inches forward. Then Eddie stopped altogether. “There’s not enough space.” Eddie cried.

Buck took his fingers slowly circling the tight skin around the baby’s head. Eddie groaned at the touch but it helped as the baby’s head slid out. Buck held the head in his hands as the shoulders followed. Eddie screamed until the baby was in Buck’s arms. Eddie fell against the couch as Buck wrapped the baby in a towel.

Buck’s eyes could not look away as he held the baby he dreamed of. Dark curly hair, tan skin, and blue eyes. His eyes, Eddie’s nose, and mouth. She was perfect. Tears fell from his eyes as he placed the baby on Eddie’s chest. He never realized how much you could love something until you held your baby in your arms.

“Isabella Maria Buckley-Diaz,” Eddie whispered.

Buck nodded loving the name. He bent down kissing the top of Eddie’s head and then to Isabella’s. His family. Christopher would be so excited to meet his sister when he gets home. Buck’s family was complete.
