Rivalry of the elements

Summary:

Some students from Class 1-A are curious as to why Osaki Chizue and Kaminari Denki hate each other so much.

Work Text:

“How can you say that?! There’s no way that makes any sense!” Kaminari was losing his patience with this girl. “Of course it does! Anyone with a brain would agree with me,” Osaki retorted as Kaminari’s nerves became more and more visible. The two elemental based quirk holders were currently in a heated argument on the debate topic of “whether water is wet or not.” Osaki Chizue very passionately believes that water is indeed wet but Kaminari viciously begs to differ.

To say Kaminari Denki and Osaki Chizue do not get along well would be an understatement. The two have been rivals ever since they met at U.A high school. Neither of them could tell you why they hate the other, the tension just came out of nowhere. Due to the reminder of Kaminari’s and Osaki’s dislike towards each other (thanks to their yelling), some of their classmates find themselves trying to pick apart this great mystery. Tsuyu Asui, Midoriya Izuku, Uraraka Ochaco, and Kirishima Eijiro look on as Osaki and Kaminari continue to argue over the trivial subject. They're quite intrigued to figure out the source of all this anger the two throw at each other and that is exactly what they attempted.

“Do you think Kaminari did something terrible to Osaki or maybe the other way around?” Uraraka contemplated aloud but Kirishima put that thought to rest, offering the fact that he witnessed their first meeting and nothing happened except the glare they both shared as soon as they laid eyes on one another. With that information, it seemed the two rivals were fated to hate each other from the beginning. Tsuyu entertained the idea of just asking straightforward. “I’ve already…” Midoriya started but Tsuyu was already raising her voice to Osaki and Kaminari to get their attention.

“Why do you two hate each other,” The two rivals stared at Tsuyu blankly for a second but then came an answer, “Because she/he is just so goddamn annoying,” they unintentionally said at the same time while pointing accusing fingers at each other. And hence another yelling match commenced.

“The hell did you just say, you dunce!”

“How dare you, bitch!”

The onlookers who had supposedly made the tension worse winced at their voices and could almost feel the wind from the impact of the rivals’ words. It was as if two powerful forces clashed together in the heat of a battle. That’s when a new idea popped into Midoriya’s head, “What if it has to do with the differences in their quirks?” The group, who were previously theorizing, turned their attention away from the raging war to Midoriya’s new explanation. Kirishima egged him on and Midoriya continued, “You know how water is a strong conductor and when electricity hits it, you get a dangerous combination. You really don’t ever want to mix the two…” Midoriya continued into a mumbling of irrelevant information about water and electricity. Tsuyu snapped her fingers in front of her friend's face to get him out of the trance, “What’s your point, Midoriya?”

“Oh, right,” Midoriya slightly flustered, went on, “I was thinking that since Osaki’s quirk involves water and Kaminari’s quirk involves electricity, they just simply don’t mix and if they do,” Midoriya trailed off as everyone turned their heads to Kaminari and Osaki literally looking ready to explode as they got in each other’s faces. “That actually makes sense, especially-,” Kirishima was cut off by a loud and sharp smack.

At that moment, Osaki had activated her quirk and whipped Kaminari in the face like how a fish would smack you with its tail. Everyone in the classroom became deathly silent as Kaminari held his right cheek in pain, but Osaki smirked devilishly. “Okay! That’s it!” Kaminari started activating his quirk as well and before anyone could stop him, he electrocuted the whole class.

Everyone slightly burnt comes together as an angry mob and yells at Kaminari. With Class 1-A fuming with anger and Kaminari nervously backs away, he tries apologizing but no one listens. Osaki standing off to the side, not seeing a reason to retaliate considering her class was doing that for her, smacks the palm of her hand to her own forehead in disapproval, “Idiot.”
