Summary:

"Hey, when was the last time you slept?"

The question made the constant tappings halt. Yoohan felt his heart beating faster as Jay looked up from his computer with dimples on full display. "Were you worried about me?"

Yoohan huffed slightly, turning away from that deceptive smile. "I asked first."

It's been awhile since they've met, and Yoohan was called into Jay's office.

He ended up learning more about himself in the process.

Notes:

God, I can't believe this is my third fic for Payback. These two live rent-free inside my head.

The story goes down almost the same way as my first fic, but the central theme is pretty different. At least that's what I think.
Now, this is a perfect setting for a booty call, but I'm a virgin metaphorically and literally so I won't go down that route... yet. Maybe?

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"What did you call me for? The staff is going to accuse you of favoritism." Yoohan complained, shutting the door behind him. He could still feel the pinpricks of curious glances on his back as he made his way over to Jay's office.

"I'm the president. If someone dares to accuse me of anything, that means they also have a death wish." The madman replied easily, still typing away on his keyboard. "Sit down over there for a bit, I'll be done with this soon."

"That's power harassment, you shameless bastard." Yoohan pointed out but obediently plopped down on the couch directly facing the desk Jay was working at. Not even death would make him spit it out, but he did miss having the madman around. They barely had time to meet recently, what with Jay suddenly being made president and Yoohan being casted for another role in Producer Jeong's next drama.

Yoohan stared at the annoyingly hard-working guy in front of him. Compared to his appearance during the showdown against Chairman Kim, he didn't look half-bad. He was really running himself out back then, to the point of having nosebleeds from missing sleep for three straight days. Still, Yoohan couldn't stop himself from asking anyway, "Hey, when was the last time you slept?"

The question made the constant tappings halt. Yoohan felt his heart beating faster as Jay looked up from his computer with dimples on full display. "Were you worried about me?"

Yoohan huffed slightly, turning away from that deceptive smile. "I asked first."

An amused chuckle echoed in the room, followed by slow, steady footsteps as Jay prowled over to him. Yoohan was determined not to let the madman look at his face— not that he didn't know the answer already, but showing him meant admitting he'd lost. The leather surface of the sofa squeaked as Jay sit down, but before he could make his escape, a heavy weight settled on top of his lap.

"... Get off." Yoohan warned, getting flashbacks of this exact scenario.

"Not until you answer me." Warm, calloused fingertips skimmed his bare throat. "Oh, is that it? Are you being shy, Lee Baekwon?"

It was the dumbest trick in the world, but Yoohan fell for it anyway, scowling down at the freeloader happily nuzzling against his torso. "Don't call me that, you psychopath."

"Mm, I miss your sharp tongue too." The fingers rubbed against his lips, parting them apart. "Well, since you've become mine, I guess I'll be patient and give you a free pass this time."

You give me free passes all the time... Yoohan thought, feeling somewhat... guilty. He's fully aware of his standoffish nature towards Jay— even Hansoo and Manager Choi wondered if their relationship was one-sided on Jay's part. He wasn't the world's smoothest talker, and while he disliked lying, he didn't like being true to his feelings either. It shouldn't really matter anyway; Jay was eerily good at reading his face and breaking down his walls.

Still. He owed the guy a few favours over the year. It wouldn't kill him to indulge for a little bit.

He shifted his head to the side, letting the fingers brush against his ear instead. They rubbed against his earlobe gently, before moving to the back of his head and tilting it down to lock their eyes together.  Yoohan's chest clenched as he was forced to acknowledge the fond expression on Jay's face; so familiar and yet still so effective. Without realizing it, his hand brushed against Jay's bangs, mimicking the same way he was always doing to Yoohan. It didn't feel bad at all; his hair was soft to the touch, and it evoked a strange sense of warmth inside him.

Jay didn't say anything else, seemingly content with the attention. The way he looked so much at ease caused Yoohan to let his guard down.

"... I was." He admitted, feeling slightly ashamed at how vulnerable he sounded. "You barely ever slept before, so now that you're a president... well.... I thought you'd get even less sleep. That's why I was... worried."

Yoohan got busy staring at a random corner, not wanting to see the damage he'd done. He didn't expect the hand covering his own, intertwining their fingers together. Jay's voice came out low and raspy, like he was holding himself back. "Is this the first time you worry about someone?"

Yoohan opened his mouth to say why are you asking that, but bit his tongue and mulled the question over. He was worried when he came across his younger brother lying in a puddle of his own blood. He was worried when the doctors told him his mother wouldn't be long for the world. In the past, those were the only people he was worried about. But after becoming an actor, there were more people who got him concerned; Hansoo, when Chairman Kim was targeting him. Manager Choi, when he was accused by Myung-shin.

"It's not." Jay's face darkened in record time, and Yoohan squeezed their hands together. "But I've never been more worried about anyone than you."

His words might come out to be placating, but it's dangerously true. When it became obvious Chairman Kim would stoop to the lowest level to dispose those who dared oppose him, Yoohan, for the first time in his life, spent days being terrified for someone else. It felt ridiculous at the time; Jay was more than capable of fending for himself. In fact, he's probably scarier than any enemy sent to face against him. Yet Yoohan couldn't stop worrying anyway.

"You must like me a lot." Jay finally broke the delicate silence between them. Yoohan frowned at the unexpected response, but was cut off before he could snipe back. "I slept last night after you called me. I had to settle for your voice instead of your body, so I only slept for half an hour."

"... That's a lot better than having all-nighters for the entire week."

"Since it makes you worried, I won't take naps on the rooftop from now on. I'll stay up for an entire month."

Yoohan sighed, shaking his head. It feels like talking to a brick wall with this guy sometimes, but for some reason he couldn't bring himself to get angry. If this exchange took place during the beginning of their relationship, Yoohan would have clocked him upside the head for having him partake in such a childish argument.

It's a testament to all the things that have happened that Yoohan only rolled his eyes and bonked the manchild on the forehead. "Did you forget I'm moving in with you? You're not that much older than me, but you're already suffering from dementia?"

Jay blinked, taking in his words. It didn't take long for him to understand what Yoohan was trying to say, his lips curling up to a devious smirk. "Lee Yoohan, you really do know how to rile me up."

"I didn't say that to... hey! Ah," Jay had somehow managed to manoeuvre Yoohan's entire body to lie down next to him, closing their distance. One of his arms trailed down Yoohan's torso, cupping the inside of his thigh. "what do you think you're doing?!"

"Making up for lost time." The madman chuckled, his voice low and raspy as he whispered into Yoohan's ears. "Since we're just going to sleep later... It's only proper to do it now, right? That is, our first night together."

A tongue invaded the inside of his ear, and Yoohan's breath hitched, grabbing onto Jay's shoulders. "W-wait. We're still at work, you pervert...!"

"I call the shots around here. Oh, do you know that expression?" Jay teased, snaking one arm around his back and groping his ass. "It means I'm the one in charge—"

"I... ahh, I know what it means, I told you my only weakness is English... fuck!"

He shouldn't have... admitted to it...!

Notes:

If you're confused with the latter half, where Yoohan riled Jay up by saying they're gonna live together, he basically means that Jay won't be having all-nighters anymore since he (canonically) can only sleep when Yoohan's around. Meaning Jay's threat to stay up for an entire month won't work, so Yoohan's calling his ass out lmao.

I wanted to make it more clear, but the novel is chock full of hidden meanings and show, don't tell kinda stuff, so I left it vague on purpose.
