Chaos & Chuckles

Summary:

Um, yeah I genuinely suck at summaries but a girl meets a boy & some intresting stuff might happen.

Notes:

I might have missed a few things while editing but Aliya & Damien are placeholder names for Sakura and Gaara. If you come across those please let me know so I can fix it. I really don't know where I am going with this story, it was just a spur of the moment thing I was thinking about.

Work Text:

"Alright, you guys, that was amazing!" Sakura exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement as she vigorously clapped her hands. The members of Chromatic Chaos had just finished a practice session, but with an upcoming competition on the horizon, they had kicked their efforts into high gear.

"Sakura, you were absolutely incredible," Sasuke praised, a genuine smile lighting up his face. "But let's not get complacent. We still have plenty of work to do, especially on our timing and transitions."

As Sakura's heart raced with a sense of accomplishment, a radiant smile spread across her face. Sasuke's approval meant everything to her, and she couldn't help but feel a rush of pride. A soft blush tinted her cheeks as she stole a glance at Sasuke, her bandmate and secret crush.

As the band began packing up their instruments, Sakura's mind wandered into a daydream. She had always admired Sasuke's magnetic personality, his virtuoso guitar skills, and his captivating vocals. However, she had kept her feelings hidden, fearing rejection and the potential strain it might place on their friendship.

Lost in her thoughts, Sakura was startled when Karin approached her. "Don't let it get to your head," Karin teased mischievously, a playful smile on her face. "Sasuke isn't into you like that."

Sakura's heart sank at Karin's words, wondering if her crush had been that obvious. She swiftly pushed aside her self-doubt, determined to maintain her composure.

"What are you talking about?" Sakura retorted with a smirk, raising an eyebrow challengingly. "Is that a hint of insecurity I detect?"

Karin rolled her eyes playfully before chuckling. "Oh, please. I'm secure enough to know that Sasuke wakes up to my face every morning," she quipped, earning an eye roll from Aliya. With that, Karin strolled away, leaving Aliya with a mix of disappointment and uncertainty. Deep down, though, she couldn't shake the nagging feeling that Karin's words held some truth.

Sakura gathered her electric guitar and bag, stealing a last glance at Sasuke engrossed in conversation with Kiba, their drummer. Releasing a small sigh, she bid her bandmates farewell and stepped out into the cool night air, hoping to clear her mind before her study session with Hinata.

The city streets buzzed with life, the usual hustle and bustle. Normally, Sakura would have hailed a cab to reach her and Hinata's study spot, but tonight, a solitary walk seemed more therapeutic. She inhaled deeply, relishing the sights and sounds of the night, deliberately redirecting her thoughts away from Sasuke and Karin.

However, despite her best efforts, her mind kept wandering back to her crush and the unsettling rumors surrounding him and Karin. Sakura had hoped those whispers were merely baseless gossip, but now it appeared that there might be some truth to them.

"She's just trying to mess with me," Sakura reassured herself, attempting to brush off the disappointment and jealousy that gnawed at her. Yet, as she meandered through the city, lost in her ruminations, she failed to notice the group of menacing figures advancing toward her. Before she could react, she was abruptly shoved into a dimly lit passageway.

"Well, well, well," one of the men sneered, stepping closer to her. "What do we have here?"

Sakura's heart raced as the realization of her predicament dawned on her, her survival instinct kicking into gear.

A rough hand reached out, forcing her chin upward, and she found herself staring defiantly into the eyes of one of her assailants. "Such a pretty little mouse," he sneered, a cruel smirk playing on his lips.

"Don't you dare touch me," Sakura spat, her voice trembling but brimming with determination. Uncertain whether her words were the best course of action, her agitation spurred by Karin's earlier comments, she refused to be intimidated.

Her attacker laughed, a sinister sound echoing through the alley. "Feisty little mouse, aren't we?"

Sakura glared at him, fighting to maintain her composure. "I suggest you release me now, or you'll regret it," she warned, her voice laced with a mix of fear and resolve.

The man's laughter intensified. "And what exactly is a little mouse like you going to do?" he taunted, relishing in his power over her.

Taking a deep breath, Sakura swiftly surveyed her surroundings, searching for any potential means of escape. Tall buildings loomed on either side, enclosing the narrow alleyway. The four men blocked her path, but her eyes caught sight of a fire escape ladder attached to one of the buildings. Without wasting another moment, Aliya calculated her next move and sprinted toward the ladder.

"After her!" one of the men bellowed, his voice laced with fury as they gave chase. Sakura's heart pounded in her chest as she reached the ladder, her muscles burning with exertion. She propelled herself upward, climbing as if her life depended on it, fueled by a surge of adrenaline.

'Lee really needs to teach me some self-defense moves,' Sakura thought fervently, her determination unyielding as she climbed toward the rooftop. A hand grasped her foot, attempting to pull her back down, but with a burst of adrenaline, she kicked free and leaped through an open window of a nearby apartment, landing safely on the floor.

Gasping for breath, her heart thundering in her chest, Sakura's eyes widened as the realization struck her: she had just broken into someone's home. Panic surged through her veins, but she had no choice but to confront the situation head-on.

"Uh, excuse me, but what the fuck are you doing in my room?" a raspy, warm yet cold voice interrupted her thoughts, causing her to freeze in panic.

'Well, at least he's polite,' Sakura managed to think, her mind racing as she slowly opened her eyes to meet the gaze of the apartment's owner. She found herself captivated by a pair of pale blue-green eyes, a mix of confusion and amusement twinkling within them.

Sakura blinked in surprise, her eyes widening at the sight of the apartment's owner. The man standing before her bore a striking resemblance to one of her attackers, with a strong jawline and piercing eyes. It was an ironic twist of fate that the person she had unintentionally intruded upon had such a similar appearance but she quickly dismissed the notion as mere coincidence, focusing instead on the fact that she had intruded into someone's personal space.

Slowly rising to her feet, Sakura brushed herself off, her nerves tingling with a mix of lingering fear and confusion. "I...I'm really sorry for barging in like this," she stammered, her voice filled with genuine remorse. "I was being chased, and I didn't know what else to do. Please believe me."

"Well, well, a damsel in distress breaking into my humble abode. Quite the peculiar turn of events," he said with a dry, sarcastic tone.

Sakura's patience wavered, her fear giving way to annoyance. "Look, I appreciate your humor, but this is serious," she retorted, her voice tinged with frustration. "I just narrowly escaped from a dangerous situation, and I really need to find somewhere safe."

The stranger let out a chuckle, seemingly unfazed by her frustration. "Oh, I assure you, I'm taking this quite seriously," he replied, his tone smug. "But aren't you curious why someone like you would end up in my room?"

Sakura narrowed her eyes, her annoyance growing with each passing moment. "Enlighten me then, Mr. Mysterious. Why don't you explain why I find myself in the presence of a prick who can't seem to offer a shred of decency?"

The stranger's smirk widened, his amusement unfaltering. "You have quite the way with words," he remarked, crossing his arms. "But let's save the banter for later, shall we? For now, I can offer to walk you to a place where you'll feel safe."

Sakura hesitated, weighing her options. Despite her frustration with this stranger's prickly demeanor, the thought of venturing back into the streets alone sent shivers down her spine. She reluctantly nodded, accepting his offer. "Fine, but don't think for a second that I owe you anything," she replied, her voice laden with defiance.

As they stepped out of the apartment and into the night, an uncomfortable silence settled between them. Sakura attempted to make small talk, hoping to break the ice and alleviate the tension. "So, do you live around here?" she asked, casting a sideways glance at the stranger.

He merely shrugged, offering a nonchalant response. "In a way, I suppose. Let's just say I have my own brand of existence."

Sakura's irritation grew, her attempts at conversation met with indifference. "Well, aren't you a bundle of joy?" she muttered sarcastically under her breath.

His eyes narrowed, his lips curling into a smirk. "You have no idea," he replied cryptically, the edges of his words laced with hidden meaning.

Sakura's frustration reached its boiling point. She stopped abruptly, turning to face him. "Alright, Mr. Mysterious, what's your deal? Are you intentionally trying to irritate me? Because, congratulations, you're doing a fantastic job!"

A flicker of surprise crossed his face, but it was quickly masked by a veil of indifference. "Perhaps I find your irritation amusing," he admitted, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Silence.

As they walked through the dimly lit streets, a peculiar detail about his appearance caught her attention—he wore thick eyeliner, accentuating his eyes and giving him an unconventional allure. The contrast between his menacing appearance and his strange sense of humor only deepened the mystery surrounding him.

"I think it's about time we exchange proper introductions. My name is Sakura Haruno, and you can call me Sakura"

The stranger raised an eyebrow, a faint hint of amusement flickering in his eyes. "Haruno, huh? Well, you've certainly got a fiery spirit, Haruno," he responded, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips.

Sakura crossed her arms, eyeing him skeptically. "And what do I call you? Red?? Mr. Mysterious? Mr. Eyeliner? " she teased, gesturing toward the smudged lines accentuating his eyes.

The stranger let out a dry chuckle, his eyes glinting mischievously. "Names can be so overrated, don't you think? But if it helps put your mind at ease, you can call me... any name of your choice," he replied, his tone dripping with an air of nonchalance.

Sakura's frustration reached its peak, her patience wearing thin. She halted abruptly, causing him to stop as well. "Look, Prick, I appreciate your help, but I can't go on like this. I don't even know who you are, and yet, you expect me to trust you blindly."

His eyes softened for a moment, a flicker of vulnerability breaking through his tough exterior. "Trust is a luxury I can't afford," he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. "But for now, you're safe with me. That's all you need to know."

Her curiosity about his true identity and intentions gnawed at her, but his lack of cooperation left her with no choice but to give him a nickname.

"Hmm, well.... I guess I dubb thee Red. Sounds nice, right?" a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips proudly.

The stranger raised an eyebrow, an amused smirk playing at the corners of his lips. "Red, huh? I suppose it's better than being called 'Prick with Gorgeous Features'," he responded, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Silence.

Sakura's frustration reached its peak as she walked beside the enigmatic apartment owner, whom she had affectionately dubbed "Red" due to his vibrant red hair. Red's aloofness and lack of response to her attempts at conversation had started to grate on her nerves.

"So, eyeliner? Are you trying to make a fashion statement or scare people away?" Sakura blurted out, unable to resist her curiosity.

Red blinked, momentarily caught off guard. "Oh, no, it's not eyeliner," he explained, running a hand through his messy red hair. "I actually suffer from chronic insomnia, so the dark circles are my signature look."

Sakura's smirk transformed into a grin. "Well, Red, you certainly know how to rock the insomniac look. It suits you," she teased, playfully nudging him.

Red's lips twitched with the beginnings of a smile, but he quickly masked it with his usual aloof demeanor. "Glad to know my sleepless nights are appreciated," he replied dryly.

Silence.

As they continued their walk, Sakura couldn't help but notice Red's striking features. His gorgeous face, framed by messy red hair, held an intriguing allure. His pale complexion contrasted with the intensity of his eyes, which seemed to change color depending on the light. There was an air of mystery and sadness about him that Sakura couldn't quite decipher.

Feeling the need to break the tension, Sakura attempted to engage in small talk once again. "So, Red, do you just spend your nights wandering around aimlessly?"

He glanced at her, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "Well, Miss Bandit, let's just say I have my reasons for wandering the streets at night. Call it a creative exploration of the city's underbelly."

Sakura couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at his cryptic response. "Bandit, huh? Guess we're even now," she quipped, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "But seriously, you should try getting some sleep. "

Red let out a laugh, genuine this time, his stoic demeanor cracking for a moment. "You have no idea," he replied, his voice tinged with a touch of melancholy. "Sleep is a fickle friend, one that eludes me most nights."

Even more silence.

As they continued their journey through the city streets, Sakura's frustration reached its boiling point. The silence between them grew unbearable, and she felt compelled to speak her mind. She stopped abruptly, turning to face Red with an exasperated expression.

"You know what, Red? I thought you were going to be my knight in shining armor or something," Sakura exclaimed, her voice filled with a mix of annoyance and disappointment. "But all I've gotten so far is a brooding, unresponsive jerk who can barely string a sentence together."

Red's eyebrows shot up in surprise, a flicker of genuine confusion crossing his face. "A knight in shining armor? Me?" he stammered, clearly caught off guard.

Sakura's frustration softened into a half-smile, tinged with genuine amusement. "Well, not exactly in the traditional sense. But I thought maybe you'd be a little less prickly and a little more... human, I guess."

Red's gaze met hers, his eyes filled with a strange mixture of vulnerability and surprise. He paused for a moment before finally letting out a soft chuckle. "You know, Haruno, you're quite the handful," he admitted, a hint of genuine amusement coloring his words.

Sakura's annoyance melted away, replaced by a newfound appreciation for Red's peculiar sense of humor. "Yeah, well, I guess I have a talent for bringing out the best in people," she quipped, a playful glint in her eyes.

As Sakura reunited with her friend, Red's phone suddenly rang, startling him out of his reverie. He pulled out his phone to see that it was a call from his sister, Temari. His brows furrowed in concern as he answered the call.

"Temari? What's going on?" he asked, his voice filled with a mix of worry and curiosity.

Temari's voice crackled through the phone, her tone urgent. "Gaara, it's Kankuro. He's been missing for days, and Dad is getting restless. He thinks you might know something."

Hiss heart sank at the mention of his brother's disappearance. Kankuro had been caught up in their father's dangerous world, and the thought of him being in harm's way sent a surge of protectiveness through his veins. He had been trying to distance himself from the family business, but his father's grip on him remained strong.

"I... I don't know anything, Temari," Red replied, his voice strained. "But I'll do whatever it takes to find him. Just... keep Dad at bay for now."

Temari sighed on the other end of the line, her voice filled with both relief and worry. "Thanks, Gaara. Be careful, okay? I don't want to lose both of my brothers."

He nodded, his jaw set with determination. "I will. And Temari..."

There was a moment of silence before Temari replied, her voice softer this time. "I know. Stay safe."

As he ended the call, a storm of emotions raged within him. The weight of his family's expectations and the danger that surrounded them threatened to consume him. He glanced back at the coffee shop where Sakura had disappeared, feeling a pang of regret.

In that brief encounter, Sakura had managed to break through his defenses and bring out a side of him that he had long suppressed. As much as he wanted to protect her from the chaos that followed him, he knew he had to prioritize finding his brother and navigating the treacherous path he had been thrust into.

With a heavy heart, he turned away from the coffee shop and disappeared into the night, the secrets of his identity and his ties to the dangerous underworld still hidden from Sakura.

As Sakura sipped her hot coffee, her thoughts briefly lingered on Red, the enigmatic stranger who had unexpectedly entered her life. She couldn't deny the flutter of curiosity and attraction she felt toward him, but she also recognized the complicated and dangerous world he seemed to be a part of.

A part of her wondered what could have been if their encounter hadn't been shrouded in secrecy and if Red had allowed himself to let his guard down. But the reality of their circumstances reminded her that sometimes, certain connections were destined to remain fleeting and mysterious.

As she watched the world outside the coffee shop go about its business, Sakura couldn't shake the feeling that her journey with Red was far from over...
