Work Text:
George really should've told his mum he was gay before he told her he was bringing his partner round for Sunday lunch. In his defence, he hadn't really thought about it before, she was always sweet about it. He'd still given Lee some warnings about her, she was overprotective by nature and could be harsh to her kids' partners.
He was realising all this as he stood in front of the burrow hand in hand with Lee.
"I don't think she knows I'm gay," George said. Fred, who had come with them as they lived in the same three bedroom flat, started laughing.
"You never did tell anyone outright," Lee said.
"Mum's gonna have a heart attack!" Fred laughed out.
"Well, if anyone was going to be the death of her it'd be you two," Lee said. George smiled at him, and with a strong breath he moved towards the door.
“Ronniekins probably would too,” George defended.
“That’s less him and more Harry,” Lee pointed out. George grinned at him, and they followed Fred into the house. Molly appeared from the kitchen, smiling at them.
"Hello dears, Lee, wasn't expecting you," she said.
"Yes you were mum," Fred said.
"I did tell you I'd be bringing my partner," George added. Molly froze, as did several of the magically done chores as a result of her shock.
"Right, of course," she said tightly, looking Lee up and down. George regretted bringing him immediately. Lee continued holding onto his hand, the only comfort he had right then.
"Hey!" Ron said, as he came down the stairs. He did a quick double take of George and Lee and seemed almost relieved that Lee was there.
"Oh good," Ginny said, appearing behind him, "when mum said you'd be bringing your girlfriend I thought you'd gone and fucked up with Lee."
"Language!" Molly shouted, not that she seemed to have heard the rest. Ginny rolled her eyes, and George couldn't help the relief he felt. He could make it through this lunch, Lee, Fred, Ginny, and even Ron, seemed to be in his corner. He doubted that if his mum did have any comments that she'd make them right in front if Lee, at least he hoped not. They'd manage of course, and maybe she was so stiff because it had been entirely a surprise and she'd been expecting some nice woman to be with him.
