Work Text:
Jungsu stirred in bed, sunlight hitting his face through the blinds, the cool feeling of the covers on his skin waking him up slowly.
He opened his eyes, blinling twice to get rid of the last remnants of sleep, looking at the white ceiling of his dorm room.
He finally sat up, stretching his arms and back; he looked around the room towards Seungmin's bed, it was empty.
He then looked at the time on his phone, it was already 9 in the morning, but it was alright because they didin't have anything scheduled for the day, so he could take it easy.
Getting up from the bed Jungsu noticed the strange silence permeating the dorm, it was usually so loud that he had to buy noise cancelling headphones.
He emerged from his room and into the living room, which was empty.
"Guys..." he called out, expecting someone to respond; but when he was met with silence he continued "is there someone?"
...
"Nobody?"
Okay...things were rally starting to get strange, usually there was at least one member home.
Not knowing what to do, Jungsu decided to start his morning routine; although a little weirded out, he wouldn't pass up the chance of a relaxing and quiet morning, not having to worry about being interrupted by someone.
He walked towards the bathroom, stopping quickly by his room just to take a change of clothes.
Once he got there he immediately turned on the water to fill the tub; he chose his favorite body wash and poured some into the water and watched the bubbles rise; the scent of vanilla lingering in the air surrounded him right away, already relaxing his body.
While taking his clothes off he realized this was a great opportunity to try the new hair mask he brought a week ago, but never got the chance to use it, seeing as they stayed at home just to sleep during a comeback, however now that the promotion period was over they had a little bit more time for themselves.
Jungsu finally entered the tub, the bubble enveloping him, his mind and body loosening up; he let himself loose to the sensation of the hot water on his body.
It has been a long time since he dedicated some time to himself; in the last few weeks his mind had been occupied only by the thought of the comeback, by the fear of failing and that the new album would not be successful; but now he was alone, his mind empty and relaxed, without any thoughts...or maybe not
Jungsu snorted irritated, he really couldn't relax, there was a small, insignificant problem that he had decided to ignore for the sake of his sanity.
He didn't remember exactly when it all started; he only remembered that one day he had begun to notice how the leader's eyes lit up every time one of the members spoke to him, how every time there was something wrong with someone, he was always the first to console, but never let himself be consoled by others thinking he was just a burden, or how he always tried to make everyone laugh, especially in situations of great stress, to lighten the situation.
Jungsu didn't remember well, but maybe thats just a lie.
The truth is that he remembers very well the first time he had felt his heartbeat accelerate at the mere sight of Gunil, he remembers well when he had stopped what he was doing just to observe the way the leader's muscles showed through the tight shirt he had decided to wear that day, he had been staring at him for so long that Hyeongjun put a hand on his shoulder and looked at him as if he already knew everything, even before him; and maybe Hyeongjun was right, because now he can't ignore even the smallest bit of Gunil's persona: the way he frowns when he plays the drums in rehearsals, or the way little wrinkles forms in the corners of his eyes when he smile, shining brighter than the sun, lighting up the room.
In a nutshell Jungsu was screwed, he didn't quite know what he felt for Gunll, but he knew he wouldn't be able to hide it much longer.
"Aaaah...I can't do it!" he yelled putting his wet hands in his hair, loosening some of the mask in his hair.
He breathed deeply, trying to calm his thoughts, panicking would lead him nowhere but to madness, he had to calm down and throw back down into the darkest recesses of his mind the thoughts concerning the other guy, he mustn't think about the way little droplets of sweat ran down his collarbone and disappeared, covered by the fabr-
"Aaaaaaaaaa"
"I don't have to think about him, I don't have to think about him, it's easy; Jungsu thinks of a little dog, a very cute little dog, that absolutely doesn't remind you of the leader of your band...aaaaa" he said disappearing into the water until it covered his head.
He had to distract himself, and being alone with his thoughts wasn't going to help.
He finished washing quickly, and once he got out of the tub, he got dressed as fast as possible, he just wanted to get out of that bathroom and find something to do.
But things never go according to plans.
As soon as he got out of the bathroom, he went to the kitchen, he hadn't had breakfast yet and cooking would have been good for him, and he also felt his stomach starting to complain.
While he was looking inside the fridge for something edible to eat, he heard the sound of the entrance door opening; curious he went to see who it was, also because during the hour spent in the bathroom, he hadn't received signs of life from other members of the group.
When he saw who it was, he froze; at the entrance there was none other than Gunil himself taking off his shoes in all his glory.
"Ah Jungsu-ah, you up?" Gunil said as soon as he noticed him.
"What are you doing standing there?" He continued when he didn't received an answer.
"Uh, I- I was checking out the sofa, look at this nice sofa" he said touching the cushions of the nearby sofa.
It was official, he wanted to disappear, he wanted to run out the door and catch the first available plane, so he didn't have to look the other boy in the eye
"Oookay...did you have breakfast?" Gunil said walking towards his room to put down his gym backpack; a detail that only now caught Jungsu's eyes, no longer busy looking for ways to disappear from the face of the earth as quickly as possible.
"Have you been to the gym?" He said, swearing internally at the thought of Gunil lifting wei- "STOP YOURSELF KIM JUNGSU" he silently screamed at himself.
"Yes, I got up early this morning and took advantage of it" he said emerging from his room and approaching Jungsu, still standing in the middle of the living room.
"And look what I bought on my way back?" he said happily showing a box of cake mix, but not a random cake, a Red Velvet one, Jungsu's favorite.
"I saw it in the supermarket window and thought of you...and here we are!"
"So? Have you already had breakfast? Do you want to prepare it with me?" continued Gunil already walking towards the kitchen and not waiting for an answer from the other.
Jungsu finally recovered and rushed to follow him saying "Oh no, no I haven't had breakfast, I woke up about an hour ago"
"Perfect then" he answered without looking at him as he took the necessary to mix the ingredients.
"Jungsu-ah, come here, mix the dough"
Jungsu approached him and did as he was asked; while he stirred, Gunil poured the various ingredients one by one.
Jungsu felt he was doing well, he hadn't screwed up anything yet, he wasn't blushing due to the close proximity of the other boy; everything was going strangely well, he just had to focus on mixing the dough; he surely didn't have to think about the way Gunil's biceps flexed with his every move, how his arms were left uncovered by the tank top he'd decided to wear this morning, or how if he concentrated enough he could see his abs-
"Jungsu"
"Jungsu"
"YA JUNGSU-AH" Gunil yelled making him jump
"What were you thinking about? I called you a couple of times but you didn't answer me" he said laughing at the shocked face of the younger one
“I was…I wasn't thinking about anything hahaha” he forced a chuckle, ignoring the way his ears were literally on fire
"Okay Okay, well we're done here, we just need to put it all in the oven"
"You sit down, I'll take care of it" the older one said, and jungsu didn't even wait for him to finish the phrase; he had to leave before going crazy.
He sat down on one of the stools near the kitchen counter and watched Gunil toned back flexing; once finished, the latter turned around and went to sit next to Jungsu, who at the moment was busy trying not to have a crisis in the middle of the kitchen; and then he felt it.
He felt the tip of the oldest's nose hit the back of his neck, a shiver ran down his spine as he realized what was happening…
Gunil sniffed his neck...
Now Jungsu was certain he was going to die, his heart was beating so fast and his face was so red he could feel the heat on his cheeks.
He slowly turned around to look at the cause of his imminent death, and he found Gunil smiling ear to ear.
"Mmm you know I love it when you use the vanilla bodywash"
"I love the scent it leaves on you" the older said moving closer to sniff him again.
Jungsu didn't know what to say, he couldn't stop thinking about how close Gunil was, their noses were almost touching, if he moved just an inch their lips would meet.
Now he was looking at the other's lips so intendedly, that he didn't notice the older smirking at the younger behavior.
"Jungsu-ah, look at me" The older said in a deep voice, that made the younger shiver again.
At the lack of respons Gunil took matters into his hands; Jungsu then felt a finger push his chin up, so that he was forced to look Gunil in the eyes, and in that moment the world stopped, he felt the air getting stuck in his lungs, the words couldn't get out of his mouth; at that moment there were only the two of them, sitting at the kitchen counter, so close that their breaths mingled, so close that Jungsu could see every little detail of Gunil's face.
Jungsu finally looked into his eyes, and read a want similar to his in it, he saw Gunil's eyes look at his lips for a second, and he saw him get impossibly closer.
He just wanted the older one to make the first move, to confirm that he wasn't the only one to have these thoughts, that he wasn't the only one wanting to close the distance, wanting to feel skin against skin, hands traveling over each other's bodies; he just wanted to know he wasn't the only one who wants all of this.
"I love vanilla" Gunil said looking straight at him, and maybe, just maybe he wasn't talking about vanilla.
Jungsu's heart jumped in his throat, he felt Gunil's hands touching his arms, turning him so that his back was against the edge of the table, he saw him move so that he was caged in between his arms.
He gathered courage, closed his eyes and began to approach slowly, anticipating the moment he would finally feel the other's lips on his, imagining how it will be, how he will feel.
It was finally happening, he won't have to daydream anymore, and...
~Ding~
"The cake is ready," Gunil whispered, his lips touching his own imperceptibly, and then that slight touch quickly disappeared as Gunil got up to go turn off the oven.
Jungsu couldn't believe it, he turned to watch the older one taking the cake out of the oven, while he touched his lips with his fingertips.
They almost kissed...one more second, and they would have kissed...he wanted to cry, it wasn't fair.
"Why does the Universe hate me?" He thought to himself trying to not to scream out his frustation.
But what Jungsu couldn't see was the mischievous smile that crossed Gunil's face.
Maybe next time.
